If you wanna be happy for the rest of your life
Never make a pretty woman your wife
So for my personal point of view
Get an ugly girl to marry you

A pretty woman makes her husband look small
And very often causes his downfall
As soon as he married her and then she starts
To do the things that will break his heart

But if you make an ugly woman your wife
You'll be happy for the rest of your life
An ugly woman cooks meals on time
And she'll always give you peace of mind

If you wanna be happy for the rest of your life
Never make a pretty woman your wife
So for my personal point of view
Get an ugly girl to marry you

Don't let your friends say you have no taste
    Go ahead and marry anyway
Though her face is ugly, her eyes don't match
Take it from me, she's a better catch

If you wanna be happy for the rest of your life
Never make a pretty woman your wife
So for my personal point of view
Get an ugly girl to marry you

Perhaps if the words "I am sorry" were said instead, the divorce rate would dwindle...

jbw i realize what your saying, and agree but i think the part I was talking about is more significant then some might think. I think it should be a big part, but just maybe not the first thing you should look for. On the list of priorities it just shouldnt be first.

That's the other aspect of it that people seem to neglect these days.

Even grown-ass adults seem to think that the Hollywood definition of love is the only one. Therefore, after a whirlwind infatuation (culminating in a hurry-up marriage), the honeymoon period inevitably ends, and they discover that without those strong binding feelings, they actually despise each other.

People should stop asking "Will this person fulfill my every romantic dream and desire?" and start asking "Am I compatible enough with this person to be able to find their presence tolerable after the ooshy-gooshy romance wears off?"

Long-term compatibility seems to be the biggest single issue for a tolerable marriage. If you'd make good best friends, chances are you'd make good mates.

Personally, my fiance has seen every grotesque and bizarre side of me, many more than any of my friends, and she's still around (oddly enough). If that doesn't give ya hope, what will?

I got married at 21. The first year was pure hell. I would be driving home from a rig and I would call my boss and beg him to put me in the front of rotation to send me back offshore. I couldn't stand my wife. She was pregnant and extremely gripey. Then I went to a BBQ at a buddys house and there was a very pretty girl there and she was really after me. I wanted to stay faithfull and such but I finally decided to have some fun I needed it after busting my butt offshore and getting nothing but screaming at home. Then my cellphone went off and it was my wifes friend calling telling me my wife was bleeding and it had to do with the baby. I dropped everything and picked her up and rushed her to the hospital. In the waiting room I was going nuts and it hit me. I love this women and I really care what happens with this child. I decided to change and not be so darn hard headed.

6 years later and my wife and I are very happy. My wife and I have a strange relationship. We both like to argue, and we always harrass each other. It keeps it fresh and fun for us. I love to see a women that won't automatically just roll over to what I want. I love a women that is game to argue with me even when I try to intmitate her. I'm a big guy 6'5" 300 pounds and one of the first things out of most peoples mouth is "I wouldn't want to piss you off". Then for this little 5 foot nothing women to stand up to me and spit nails at me just really turns me on haha.[:p]

I'd have to agree with this. People are really self centered these days. It's what Hollywood and the tv teaches people. TV fills too big of a role in people's lives. How many shows do we have now watching other people live their lives? How many reality shows that aren't reality? You said it perfectly. Normal every day life is usually boring. There's actually WORK to do!! But you only see attractive people on tv spending money, cheating and having fun. Eventually people think they need to examine their own lives and ask, "what's wrong with us?" Then they decide it isn't working out and the grass is greener somewhere else.
Many people's expectations are set so high, that they're unattainable.
