Why is left-handed stuff more expensive???
I'm not ranting or complaining, I just don't know why and would like to know why left-handed products are more expensive. Aren't they simply the mirror image of the right-handed models? Is it because they are in less demand? I've noticed this in shopping for guitars, basses, and guns.
The exact same Washburn acoustic guitar is $30 more expensive in the left-handed model. There seems to be a larger difference in price for guns. I'm just curious why us southpaws are being discriminated against! [:(!] I'M KIDDING. I was going to jump on the special treatment for minorities bandwagon but then came to my senses.

Still costs $$$ to retool a machine to make the lefty items. Then, not as many items will be produced because there aren't as many lefties in the world, so the manufacturer needs to make up the difference by charging more. 0 -
...because anything for the handi-capped/challanged...is always higher...[8D]

[:D][:D]I figured there would be a comment like that. Why am I not surprised it came from you? [:D]0 -
When a rifle maker or anything that can be left or right handed has their machinery set up to run production for 10,000 items and they are playing catch up with demand now has to stop and set new left handed jigs and cutters up for a run of 500 left handed items that are not behind they are losing money that needs to be made up and the easiest way is to charge more for the left handed stuff.
Hope that made sense.0 -

Punctuation would help, but yeah I understood it.......I think.[;)]0 -
Almost sounded like you know what you are talking about MVP.[}:)][:p] 0 -
Supply and demand. 0 -
That is one of the reasons that I as a lefty suck it up and use right handed guns and such. I also golf right handed.
Cost and avaibility are the main reasons.0 -
Economies of scale. The set-up costs are the same, the materials used per item cost the same. The set-up costs are divided into the costg of each item produced, so the more items produced, the less the amount of set-up costs per each item.
For example, you setup machinery to build a product. If you only build one, then all of the setup costs and the materials go into the price of the one item- which is why special order items cost more; but if you can setup the machinery and then run a hundred pieces through it, then the cost of each item would be the cost of material plus 1/100 of the setup costs.
since there are fewer left hand style rifles made, the left hand styles have a larger portion of setup costs in the price of each rifle, and so cost more.0 -
...just the way MY challanged mind works...[:D]

Supply and demand.
Funny, I hear that when demand is HIGH prices go UP
but left handed stuff is in LESS demand so why are prices higher?0 -

My 243 is a right handed one, I'm wanting to get a pump 20 gauge and don't really want shotgun shells flying across my face while I'm shooting birds. But I may just get a righty and use the $100 saved to buy some shooting glasses and a hunting vest.[;)]
I play bass right-handed but I'm going to play guitar left. My left hand seems to be a little retarded when it comes to playing chords.0 -
Thanks to all of you for confirming my suspisions. At least companies haven't jacked up the prices for left-handed toothbrushes, drills, hammers, etc. [:)]

Bingo.
Most lefties will adapt whether we like it or not (yep, I'm a lefty). I refuse to purchase special scissors, golf clubs, guns, etc. that cost more than they should. Heck, even doors are right-hand oriented.
The few that don't and demand manufacturers accomodate them must be willing to pay for the special products.
Again, this is a supply/demand thing. However, it also makes me smile to think that some wise politician someday might consider making lefties a protected class, thus ensuring us benefits since we're discriminated against daily in our society.0 -

Ray B explained it much more comprehensible but it is what I was trying to say.
Parents don't let your kids drop out of school and they will turn out like Ray B.
Let them drop out and ...well... they will turn out like me.0 -

Because you don't understand the concept of supply and demand.
Yes, when demand is high, so are prices.
But, when demand is low and supply is low, prices are high.
It was a rhetorical question smartass...0 -

Similar to Git R Done, I shoot / swing / golf etc. right handed, but I should be a lefty. I throw and write left handed, but do everything else right handed, only because my father did not want to learn how to do things left handed, then teach me how. I'm too far along to change back, but I enjoy it. 0 -

Because if Left-handers are awarded special rights, then Right-handed, Left-Eye-Dominant shooters will want their special rights, too. Then the next thing ya know there will be left-Eye-Dominant couples living right next door to you, having their left-handed sex right on your lawn in front of your dog and children.
AND YOU DON'T WANT THAT, DO YOU?
No. I didn't think so.
So think about this slippery slope you're on. The camel's nose is under the tent, my friend, and I don't think you want your child growing up in a world where Left-Eye-Dominant is considered "normal"0 -

Bite me. [}:)] Yes, I do want that. I want my special rights. I want reparations. I want to be a special-class citizen.
I've spent too many years as a white, straight male. I found my loophole! GIMME GIMME GIMME!0 -
Economy of scale oh and they figure they have you by the left nut. 0 -
...yep, before you know it lefties will be protesting to have the same rights as "normal" people, won't be after my rights though...[8D]

I'm a lefty....I am so used to using a right hand bolt action rifle that I have a hard time using a lefty when I come across one.
As for shotguns, try out a few different ones....I hunt mainly with Remington 870 and do not see the hulls when I eject one. Another good choice is an Ithaca or Browning models that bottom eject.
My favorite firearm to let my right handed friends use is an HK USP .45 with a safty/Decocker on the right side only. They get a real confused look on their face when they are trying to take the safety off to fire it.
I enjoy telling them, now you see what I put up with with most firearms....[:D]0 -

Because left handed people tend to be lower IQ, they will pay more for the same basic item as the more intelligent right hander.
The studies show this to be true.

I'm left handed and I do everything left handed except use scissors. My firearms are all semi-auto with one pump and break action. I have no problem shooting any of these left handed. I am a lefty thriving in a right handed world. I've even shot right hand bolt guns left handed, and used my left to cycle the action!!! 0 -
