Dumb Whiskey Question.
Ok, never drank whiskey in my life (yet), but after reading lots of posts on here about it figured I would give it a try.
I have a bottle of Makers Mark.
What are good ways to drink this?
I mean is it supposed to be room temp, over ice, chilled????
Straight or mixed? If mixed, with what?
Thanks

I prefer it straight at room temp, but this could be the minority position. Be advised it's pretty easy to OD on the stuff. [:D] 0 -
Altho havent had a drink of whiskey in years, maybe on the rocks sipped is a good way to enjoy Makers Mark.. 0 -
WHiskey to me is a sipping drink. Meant to be served straight at room temp...no water...no ice...no coke...no nothing.
Just a clean glass, good whiskey and a nice fire.0 -
Good Lord man! Don't mix a good whiskey with anything but itself, or a couple of ice cubes.[;)]
If you want to drink something mixed with a soda pop or juice, get some cheap crap.
Makers Marks is a fine sipping whiskey and IMHO is best enjoyed over a couple ice cubes and savored as it chills and dilutes. Anything else masks the flavor and defeats the purpose of a "fine sipping-whiskey".0 -

Correct.....repeat as necessary to achieve the desired result.[;)]
I have my antique cut-glass tumbler ready for one or more after dinner drinks of Single Barrel, Evan Williams Kentucky Bourbon.[^][^] She was barreled in May of 1996, barrel #326, then sat there until bottled in May of 2006.0 -
And please note: that's horizontal fingers. Joe 0 -
On the Rocks.... whiskey is better when really cold. 0 -

Just poured one of these myself and settled in to watch a little football. If you are a makers mark fan I suggest joining their ambassador program. Free to join and you get a few nice gifts each year along with information and your name on a barrel. Only a couple more years and "my" barrel will be ready for bottling. I understand they will give you the opportunity to purchase a bottle from your barrel once it is ready.

As most have said DO NOT MIX. Over some ice if you want.
You have chosen one of the best brands (in my opinion).
If yoy don't feel you can do this properly send me the bottle and I will return to the distillery which is 6 miles from me.
I will make sure it is empty.0 -
get 2 tumblers ,place in water, shake off exess & put straight in freezer to ice for couple of hours!! take iced glass out, pour in the 'goods'...mix with only......water /ice or canada dry!! [:p]
cheers[:)] when ya done, do again....(put the glasses back in the freezer).0 -
Put a straw in the bottle[:D][8D] 0 -
That is good stuff and costs enough that I don't mix it but just have it with some ice for sipping.
Cheap whiskey is mixed with coke and drank with a funnel and hose[:D]0 -

I like mine chilled. 0 -
You were on course right up until you got to the ginger ale, for that(I forget the name of that drink) use something like Canadian Club. Maker's Mark is far too good for that. IMHO

Dang it! You guys have made me thirsty! All I have here is a bottle of Geo. Dickel. Think I'll partake of a dram or two.
Remember, it's for SIPPIN', not chuggin'.0 -

+1 keep the bottle in the fridge take it out only to pour and put it back0 -
2 shots Makers Mark + 1 shot or less of Sweet Vermouth pour over Ice in a Old Fashion glass, add a Marchino cherry or two. Sip and relax. This can be strained and put in a chilled Martini glass also. Wonderful before dinner with appetizers. Bourbon Manhatten 0 -
Straight, would be ashame to dilute good whiskey. Only thing that
could make it better would be a good cigar to go with it.0 -
It may be absolute heresy, but put it over some ice and then I put a tiny splash of water on top. I've read that one should only use distilled or filtered water for the ice and splash, but I really don't bother.
MM is good booze, as is Wild Turkey. I've always thought Old Granddad is very smooth bourbon at a great price.0 -
I haven't had Maker's Mark for quite awhile, but it's good stuff. I usually drink Beam on the rocks, with just a splash of water.
Some will say it's heresy, but if a splash of bottled water is good enough for my $150 scotch, it's good enough for good whiskey.0 -

There is absolutely NOTHING wrong with old Mr. Dickel.[;)]0 -
Why not save yourself the trouble.
1. Open the bottle.
2. Set it on the table.
3. Slam your head on the table repeatedly.
4. Lick out an ashtray.
5. Eat a few treats from the litter box.
6. Continue to slam your head on the table until you pass out.
7. Wake up the next morning.
At least this is what I always feel like the morning after opening a bottle of whiskey.0 -

if you like makers mark try "bookers" burbon made by jim beam. aged 6 to 8 yrs in the barrel then straight uncut into the bottle. 50 bucks a bottle but you dont even need to swallow it to catch a buzz as its 127 proof goodness just soaks through the roof of your mouth directly into the cranium. great over a game of poker and ice in conjunction with a good cigar. 0 -

I prefer neat or on the rocks
a good whiskey like Maker's Mark is wasted by mixing it with coke and whatever0
