I spent three years in Virginia, thanks to Uncle Sam. I have some very fond memories of that beautiful state. Charlottesville was one of the most beautiful towns I've ever been in. At least it waws in 1983. What's the name of the caves on the WVa border? That was a great road trip.
Now, like any state, there were some...well... less than highlights. I didn't care for Richmond, that much, but overall, I miss Va.0 -

Bobski, I was disrespecting Virginians. They are really the only people in the US I know. Where I lived "Redneck" was not a bad term. People called themselves Redneck, it was just a way of life. They are just tough no-bs people, living in the counntry, many who aren't shy of guns. Many of my friends called themselves that.
I see your a city boy, living in Virginia Beach. That is a different world from the west part of Virginia, so you probably wound't even understand.

From 1978 to 1980 I was assigned by my company to a Government Project just inside the Beltway in Washington, D.C. and during that time we lived in Mosby Woods in Fairfax, VA. I was a Dallas Cowboys fan at the time and John Riggins (Washington Redskins) lived about 4 houses down from me, but even though there were no signs posted in the neighborhood to specifically prohibit a Hatfield's and McCoy's type feud, somehow I don't think it would have been socially acceptable to plink someone in the neighborhood, not even in Virginia.[:D] On a serious note, it was a beautiful state and my wife and I always wanted to go back.[:)] 0 -
I live in Va. and I am a LEO here, I can speak only for myself I dont own anything worth any human life. Threaten my family and you better be prepared for a rapid response. If a thief were to come through one of our gate's at night he would be glad to see me so I could get my 3 Dobermans off of him. I would attempt to take him into custody, but not by lethal force. 0 -

11b6r, i lived in claudville,not far from the meadows of dan and squirrel spur junction, actually, prime lumber was a big timber cutter then,now they use the land for hunting,birds etc, have you ever been to kibler valley ie its a dead end road one way in and out, the dan is beautiful there,my friends owned a house on the river and we lived there every weekend,but it was only a 2 mile drive to the river from our cabin that was in 84-87 sadly i'm in ohio now......again, Loko[:D]0 -

I live in Chesterfield, but came from the Southwestern Virginia mountains. Smyth County. Mainly a bunch of good ole farmers and rednecks. The worst part about living in Virginia is the personal property tax. We just stroked a check for $1100 for pp tax. My brother lives in Tennessee and does not have to pay pp tax or state income tax. they just pay 9% tax on anything they buy. I'd rather pay that myself, but will not be moving to Tenn. for a while. Maybe in 10 years.[:D] 0 -

i'm in Spotsylvania, VA. 2 of the Beltway sniper shootings occured here and some civil war battles a few years ago.... other than that, well we got 3 wally worlds now [:D] seriously though i've been here in spotsy as we call it for almost 30 years now, other than a few years in the army and a couple weeks here and there i've been a long time resident of va and love it here.... been up and down the east coast from penn. to fla. and it was so-so compared to here. 0 -
