Subway sucks
Actually, I like Subway. The food doesn't suck, it is just the franchise owner and his employees that suck. They suck big time.
When I order a turkey and cheese sub, the only condiment I want on it is pickles. The truth is that a turkey and cheese sub CANNOT have too many pickles. So, the more the better.
I don't order lettuce. I don't order tomatoes. I don't order peppers, black olives, sour cream, sauces, onions, etc., etc., etc.
The local Subway franchise owner has instructed his clerks (who I can't blame, they're high school kids following orders) to not put on more than one layer of condiments on any sandwich. His theory, I suppose, is that it costs more to do so.
I might even buy that theory if I was ordering a sandwich with multiple condiments on it. But, I'm not. I just want pickles. It doesn't cost this Subway a penny more to flood my sub with pickles.
However, it does cost this Subway more because I won't buy my sandwiches there anymore.
Dumbass franchise owner needs to have a lesson in why dealing in absolutes is almost universally bad for business...

The horror of it all. [:o)] 0 -
Basic 7-11 lesson in economics. The variable cost of condiments is a pittance when compared to the fixed costs of property, plant, equipment, and labor. If watching cost is important to a shop owner, which it should be a priority, control the costs that affect the bottom line the most. The variable cost of food is much less relevant.
Back in the day, 7-11 discovered the cost of the Big-Gulp was pennies, but by selling the Big Gulp at a cheap price, it brought people in the store. Look at franchise restaurants like Lotta-Watta (sp) They realize the cost of the food is a proportionately small cost. So they overwhelm the plate with a lot of food. The customer is overwhelmed and satisfied. The customer comes back.0 -
Try Quiznos - 1,000,000x better 0 -
He watches his pennies on the cost of pickles, but probably hires extra high school employees. 0 -
Man, I really want to make a Jew joke about a shopkeeper worried about the cost of pickles. 0 -

And why prey tell, would it be a Jew joke? One assumes this boob is a good ole redneck American. Maybe a Pakastani, possibly even from Nebraska. Could it not just be a dumb manager joke?0 -

Ahem.
I'm Jewish. This better be a good joke.
And, yeah, I like funny Jew jokes. I don't like unfunny ones, though.0 -

Are pickles now considered a condiment?0 -
Yeah, I just think it's funny that a tight a$$ shop owner is worried about the cost of pickles. 0 -
The Nazis at Nuremberg claimed they were "just following orders" too. Didn't work for them!
Subway sammages are OK if you've never had a good sammage. When they finally figured out how to screw up a meatball sammage, I quit going to Subway.
If you want a good hoagie you have to go to Philadelphia. I like hoagies, but I don't like them that much. [:D]0 -
I get breakfast burritos at McDonalds once in a while. I like at least 3 hot sauces for each burrito. When I ask for extras, the employees act like it's coming out of their check or something. No respect. 0 -
And why does McDonald's drive thru always give you a fist full of salt when you ask for salt with that one order of fries. One pack is more than enough salt for a large fry. 0 -

Amaghetti's Special at Amaghetti's bakery on the hill in St. Louis is to die for.
Ybor City, in Tampa, Cuban Sandwiches are tops.
Oh, also, St. Paul Sandwiches at Chinese takeout places in St. Louis. Egg Foo Young on white bread. Get the pork![^]0 -
I have thought the same thing about pizzas. Why do more toppings cost more? If you order just sausage, let's say you get 1 cup of sausage. If you order sausage and pepperoni, you get let's say 1/2 cup of each...the total amount is usually the same, because I have yet to see a pizza with an inch of toppings on it........
Incidentally, I LIKE getting a fistful of salt. I like salt, period. I for one like using 2-3 packets on a large fries, and one on a burger. So to each his own.0 -
All these fast food places are killing us anyway, at the very least, they could show some respect.[xx(] 0 -
Yeah, and whats the deal with ammo? 20 rounds per box! You would think that the manufacturers could throw in 5 or 6 extra rounds for the same price.
It's the same principle, just business thats all.0 -
Had some good subs back in Denmark too.
Except I go in and have it made as I want.
I don't trust the Drive-In's..
I rarely use them and when I do - it's just for a soda or something.
One time I pulled up to the booth/speaker/mic-thing and ordered away - we were 4 in the car.. but there were a few things they didn't have or want to make. So we pulled out and I guess the next guy got stuck with our order..0 -

LOL no it really isn't. But, that's very funny.
When you buy a box of ammo, it says on the outside that it comes with 20 rounds (or 25 or 50) of a specified caliber.
When you buy a sandwich at someplace like Subway, and they claim that they will make it the way you order it (fresh, too), and they fail to do so, that's another thing altogether.0 -
Since Quiznos came to town - about 20 miles away - I have not returned to Subway.
If you watch the commercials, you can see how subway is trying to counter-market Quiznos. I think it's funny. If they treated people right to begin with, the stores near Quiznos locations wouldn't be in trouble.
We had a K-Mart here in the town that got arrogant and complacent because for low-end stuff, people would have to drive the 50 or so miles to Salem(OR). Wal-Mart moved in, and no matter how hard K-Mart tried, people just quit shopping there. Within 8 or 9 months, K-Mart was history. The public doesn't forget when they have been poorly treated.
I get a hell of a charge watching arrogant companies get there asses kicked when a new player comes to town. You would think that they never heard of Darwin - one of my favorite people, by the way.

The closest Quiznos to me is about five miles away. I agree that Quiznos is a better sandwich.
I have two Subway shops that I can walk to in less than ten minutes. One gets my business. The other one used to but no longer does.0 -
i used to think the same way until i owned my own business, the first day i had to just buy paper goods i went through the roof, 350.00 for cups, coasters and straws, then to see a barmaid and a few customers having a coaster fight is enough to pizz anyone off
look at his point of view, as you stated they have high school kids working for him, and as we all know 99% of them lack the ability to make judgement, so as a rule you have to set EXACT guidelines for them to follow, they cannot comprehend that replacing the lettuce with an extra pickle would be financially even, and if they where given free range i could just imagine what they would do, as in supply their friends, and family with cheap condiments, i have seen it done
this is why mcdonalds has pictures instead of numbers on the cash register, just try to order extra gravy with a B&G, the restaurant will come to a halt0 -
jonk, you wouldn't have gotten into the Navy's nuke program in the days when Admiral Rickover was running it.
In the old days Admiral Rickover would personally screen all prospective nuke officers. Part of his screening process was to have dinner with all the candidates. If a young officer put salt on his potatoes before he tasted the potatoes, he was out of the program.
There was no logic behind the "salt test". It was just another way for Admiral Rickover to show everybody what an dude he was.
I wouldn't have made it either. Potatoes never have enough salt when they come to the table.0 -

Potaotes have enough salt, but never have enough butter. He probably wouldn't have cared for me then.0 -

Oh I love M&Ms.0 -
i like the subway right by my house. i just started eating there. none of the employees speak english and the owner is a korean who barely speaks english. they are rarely crowded, they always say "belcome to subjay" when i enter and they always give me more when i ask for it. i noticed alot of cops eating there too. probably because they can watch you make the food so you dont spit in it. 0 -
I SAID "S&M" !!
Pay attention.
