VA upgraded me yesterday
I just got notified by the VA they have given me another status.
I was allready at 100% service conected, but now they have given me the total and permanent stamp on top of it.

You know I do not let it get me down.
Sure I miss working! But people work hard all thier lives and then they are too old to do alot of the stuff they wanted to do when they retire.
I can still pretty much do anything I want to do as long as I can go at my own pace, so at 41 I got lots of time to do alot of things I want to do.
You know the old saying!
When life gives you lemons, just make some nice lemonaid![;)][:D]0 -

...First, Kevin, let me thank you for your service. I really have no idea how deep your problems go. I try to not be a d**k around here, or question anyones' integrity. Your generosity and caring nature are obvious. That said....some of your posts suggest a pretty good level of physical activity. This one comes to mind.

I live with this crap everyday of my life, and if the Lord does not return soon, I'll probably die from it far younger than I should...0 -

I do not deny that I am pretty active.
But there are alot of times that I am layed up in bed too.
I can manage a great deal of activity as long as I can go at my own pace. And that pace is normally not good enuff for an employer when I do start hurting. I know this because I did work untill 3 years ago (that also is when I was first given 100% service conected).
If I could still work I sure would as I was makeing over $75k per year at my last job.
When I first got discharged from the Army I only was getting 10% service conected which amounted to under $100 per month at that time (1993). It was after many years of progressively getting worse that I was being moved up the ladder to the 100% I get now.0 -

...I can relate, Kevin. I do a lot of things that I'm not "supposed" to do. Other days, I'm couch bound. No offence meant, but posting about building and driving a race car sounded out of place for someone on 100%. Careful what you post, as someone with a vendetta could collect those posts and contact the V.A. You never know who lurks around internet forums. Best to ya and we'll keep gettin' r done through the pain. 0 -
good advice tapwater +1[;)] 0 -
You don't realize how good you have it until something makes you realize it. I appreciate my husband and kids a LOT right now...since dealing with my friend's horrific accident and losing her husband. I can't imagine being in pain for an extended amount of time. I just know I would be a medicine junkie for any pill they gave me. We are here if you need us....hope your doing well. 0 -
Have they ever determined the cause fer gulf war syndrome... I haven't ever read anything that suggest the Iraqi people have this disease. Could it have been the Anthrax Vaccine. I'd read that it was suspect at one time....
I also read that British soldiers have several cases as well! Several people I know where there too. Ive never heard one of them mention this.... so what is the real scoop on this.... is it just affecting those who where in a certain local. Are some of these guys I know walking around with it and don't know it yet...
Also didn't I read something about GW vets loosing a lot of new borns around 92 or 93.....0 -

That's just it. I am not doing anything against doctors orders.
They have given me free run to do anything I personally feel comfortable doing. They also have said that my own body will tell me when I am pushing to hard.
I do have some permanent limitations due to all the metal pins, screws, and plates holding a number of bones together (a good example is my right elbow which I have lost about 20% of the movement in it and I will never be able to straighten it out all the way again) and I always take these permanent limitations into account when I'm doing something.
But I will get out and give anything my all untill I am hurting to the point that my body says I've had enuff.
All my doctors are fine with me doing this and have actually encouraged it.
I do have a standing perscription for Vicodine. But a 1 month fill on it normally lasts me over a year because I just do not like pain pills and will not take one untill it is to the point that I just cannot tolorate it any more and then I only take 1/2 of one to take the edge off.
I do eat motrin (800mg) like they are candy and therefore have to also take some other stuff to protect the linning of my stomach.
I have a host of other meds that I take as well. But really all of them are treating symptoms and not cureing anything.0 -
Not to change the subject but everyone of my school buddies that went to Nam, save two have now passed...odd thing is that both of them were injured badly within days of arriving there... I recently have been talking to a Nam Vet that was a POW...He is fighting Cancer as well!!! 0 -

No defenitive causes have ever been found according to the VA!0 -

Go do some reading on the Gulf War forum. BTW...the Gov't is admitting that parts of our brains are dying (shrinking as they put it), BUT of course they cannot conclusively link it to our service in theater. Yes a lot of vets had deformed children...and yes a WHOLE lot of vets (something like 60,000 I belive) have died from unexplained illnesses...but it was all in their head too.0
