No need to snitch. Saw a piece on the news where these guys in Georgia are patrolling neighborhoods looking for green grass. When they find it, they turn the water off at the main. 0 -

Does this count as the same for those who have WELL water? I haven't been using it.....but we have city water AND well water here at our house. If they shut off my water because my grass was green and I used the water from my pumphouse to water my grass I would be SO frikin mad!!!!
I wouldn't tell on my neighbor for anything like water usage. Someone hunting on our land is the only thing I have ever called the local authorities for. Late in the morning.....two kids jumping on the trampoline, two kids riding a go-cart all over the place and out of nowhere my floor is vibrating from shots being fired close to the house.....not cool.0 -

Being from Atlanta, I have a little insight into this one. One of the main reasons that people are "snitching" is that the local authorities are seriously considering rationing water. That would mean that you would only be allowed to use a certian (very small) amount of water every month. It would apply to all households. If you exceed the amount, they shut your water off. The other option that they are talking about is shutting the water off in "zones" for periods of time.
So, when you hear that, and then you drive by some gigantic Mc-Mansion with the sprinklers going full blast, because the owner of the place paid $500,000 too much for the house and just has to have green grass, you get a little peeved.
Like ECC said, they have patrols that are going out and if they catch you watering your lawn or washing your car, they shut off your water and fine you.0 -

I have been watering at least once a week through the whole thing. I did cut back on the ammount that I water but never stopped.
But I am on a well and figure it is my problem if the well runs dry not thiers!
I put alot of money and time planting a new lawn back in the spring and am not going to let it die!0 -
No way. It is best to stay on good terms with your neighbors,whether you like them or not. Let's say you call police on your neighbor for watering there lawn. Now while your at work and some idiot is breaking in your house and your neighbor wont call the police (pay back is a b#tch). 0 -
Plumb your house to recycle waste water from your sinks and use that to water your lawn.

You do realize that you likely aren't the only person drawing water from your source, don't you? You say your under water restrictions, but water anyway. What if watering your yard lowers your well level? That affects all others that draw their water from the same aquifer. Don't mean to pick on you GRD...but the attitude in your post is what is wrong with American today. It says, "I don't care about anyone else. All that matters is what is important to me. After all, it's ALL about ME!" Go ahead. Put your pretty green lawn ahead of others. After all, it is much more important that you have green grass than others have drinking water.0 -
I think that the term "snitch" tends to be used by those that think breaking the laws/rules is generally OK. It is typically a deragatory term used to describe someone who is disloyal to fellow lawbreakers. You already know where a person stands on an issue when they use the term. 0 -
Wahh, Wahh! You guys sound like this is the first time you've ever had to think about water.
In nM, we have had REAL droughts that last about 6 years, there are water restrictions every year, we have water cops that fine you for using water between 9AM and 7PM, the city will pay a percentage for your xeriscaping of your yard, washing cars in a car wash that doesn't recycle the same nasty water gets you a $250 fine, and there are the restrictions; no water with your meal unless you ask for it, iced tea costs extra, coffee has gone up, if you use more than twice what you used during the middle of Winter last year, you pay extra.
If a lush, mosquito-filled place like Georgia can have a "drought"; think about your Western brethren that have 'em every year!

if it caused my water bill to rise and if in the long run, it helped cause the water to get turned off completley, yes.

In our area the restrictions do not apply to homes on wells. I have cut back enuff that my lawn is in very bad shape but have kept enuff water on it to keep it from totally dieing on me.
If I had not spent all the time and money that I had in the spring to get a lawn growing I would not have watered at all. But there is quite a bit of money out there that I cannot afford to keep putting out to have a yard that the kids can play in, so I try to keep it from being a total loss.0 -
Mrs. PLaid would get those calls all the time. She would explain the law only covers city water and not private well water. Several of the older homes do have well water.
The Police Chief would say he is not sending officers out on these calls. They have better things to do. So the ordinance was not enforced. Unfortunately, people still call.0 -

In 80 days, there will be no coming from the tap in Atlanta. So, some selfish pig is dumping everybody's future drinking water on his lawn.
To take this matter from the abstract to the concrete, I will be spending a three day weekend in Atlanta starting this Friday. I will be staying in a nice neighborhood which [used to have] nice big green lawns.
When I take my dog for a walk in the morning at 5 am, I will be on the lookout for lawn watering bandits, and I will turn them in.
Y'all who say you wouldn't do it, I can't understand.
There is a record setting drought in Georgia. The water will run out in 80 days. You are obeying the rules and severely limiting your own water usage. Your neighbors are watering their lawns all night long. You would sit passively by, while these guys dump your future drinking water on their lawns.
What are you going to tell your kids 60 days from now, when there is no water to drink?
Who knows, if everyone conserved water, then the water might last 100 days, or longer.0 -
