Anyone ever make a prediction and get laughed at?
A couple predictions that I've made (one as far back as 2004) came true this year. I got either laughed at or contradicted on both occasions. Ever refrain from rubbing a see-I-told-you-so in someone's face when your prediction came true? Let's hear crazy stuff that came true after you told someone it would. Maybe you wish you would have acted on something that you had a gut feeling about but didn't.
1. In 2004 I was telling folks that Guiliani was going to run for President and would probably be the best shot for the Republican candidacy. Guiliani wasn't even on anyone's radar at the time and I got laughed at. There were a million excuses why he wouldn't even put his name on a Republican ticket and a certain circle of politically-minded friends thought I was off my rocker.
Last September I was back home and saw a structure going up. It was a for-the-rich-only apartment building selling single apartments starting at $400,000 apiece. It's not even in a wealthy neighborhood! I was discussing this atrocity waiting to happen with friends who were talking about how great it would be to get in on something and then sell it for a huge profit down the road. I predicted that what I called the "housing bubble" would pop because the market was just way too hot. Now I have 2 friends whose houses are in foreclosure because they were too stupid to see past an A.R.M. Once again, they pretty much laughed at the idea when I mentioned it and this was in September 2006.
In 2002 I was drinking coffee in the office where I worked. I always drink coffee in the fall when the mornings are really cool and switch to Coke when it starts to warm up outside. It's usually like that in the early fall where I was working. One day I didn't finish my coffee and poured Coke into the mug not realizing that there was coffee in there. I drank it. I was surprised at the flavor which set me back for a moment. My natural reaction was "nasty" at first but it grew on me. I actually enjoyed it by the time the mug was gone. I thought about the idea of coffee blended with Cola. Well, now we have "Coke Blak" which is coffee-infused Coke. Go figure.

Yeah, five years or so ago I started telling people right here to start buying up Jap weapons and WWI stuff. Everybody was either neutral or poopooed it. Jap weapons have shot up over 100% and WWI stuff is starting to climb. Some folks may still have time to get onboard for the WWI stuff and turn a profit in 7 or so years. 0 -

Jeremy, you look absolutely stunning on that bad boy in your BDUs and your haircut is to die for, but coffee coke has been around since the fifties, albeit only in soda fountains that run Coke and Pepsi syrup in lieu of bottles and cans.
BTW, how are you doing on that Judge Dread will develop an artificial appendix prediction?0 -
The predictions I made didn't so much get me laughed at as called a terrorist-supporter and a freedom-hater. 0 -
Predictions I made that bombed:
1. Minivans would never fly.
2. Cd's would never work.
Predictions that were on.
1. Desert storm. I predicted the day exactly and was off by 45 minutes to the hour that the war would start. I even had the casualties right.
2. The military would make a "microwave type weapon" to use on the enemy. You are seeing it now with crowd control devices.
3.Y2K would be a dud. It was.
Predictions yet to come
1. It will be legal for people to marry animals ( by 2070)
2. Pedophiles will have their own political party( by 2030)
3. Paper money will be eliminated (2025)
4. Next moon shot (manned) scheduled for 2018 will be delayed to 2019
5. I will die when I am 81 years old. Am 44 now.
6. Limb regeneration becomes medically possible in the next 45 years.0 -
I was listening to John Kennedy being interviewed by Walter Cronkite
& turned to my father & said "My God, he just gave the signal to have Diem assassinated!"
My dad just laughed, but a few days later he didn't think it was so funny.0 -
Would you please tell me the date and time of my death ??
It will make long-term (or maybe short term) planning so much easier.

I don't make many predictions but I get laughed at all the time![:D] 0 -
I believe that much of the time it's just common sense. You know something is going to happen if things continue as they are...and it surely does. 0 -
My prediction is that what is about to happen will happen.
I guarandamntee it.0 -
I got one now Hillary will be our next president, wheather she get's any votes or not. 0 -

...Right here on the forums in 99 I made a prediction and was poo-pooed at. I predictated N Korea would become a major threat and very soon, once again. I gave no specifics of "how" they would become a threat, just that they would.
My prediction that the 17HMR would not catch on did not work out to well...[8D]
Dang, wish I could remember my username from back then, but my poor immitation of Evil Knievels bass boat jumping stunt,( which by the way I do OWN the distance and height record for bass boat jumpin' on Iron Fork Lake in Arkansas![:D]) obliterated my username...and lots of other things as well...[:D]

Predicted VHS was the way to go instead of Beta.[8D] 0 -

I bin laughed at aplenty without wastin' my time makin' silly predictions... 0 -
I predicted when Saxon left the site in a huff and tied the forum up with his deletions of his own post that he would come back and they would make him a mod. I also predict that when he sees this, he will poof it. I have yet to be wrong. Don 0 -
I predict, before this thread gets to thirty posts, there will be a "cat fight".[:D][:D] 0 -

DWS, you may want to explain to them what a soda fountain is. 0 -

I will make some predictions here and now. I will be the next President of the Confederacy. Oliver North will be my Vice President. Carrie Underwood will be my First Lady! And the COWBOYS will win the next ten Super Bowls in a row.[;)]
Bwaaaaaaaaaahahaha "The Boys" won't even win the next one in a row....That is a pipe dream not a prediction!!!!0 -
DWS--The only Judge with whom I have had contact outside of the Gunbroker forums and email is JudgeColt and it's been almost 10 months so maybe I should give him a call sometime soon. I had no idea that they used to infuse Coke with coffee. It certainly hasn't been marketed to the coffee-drinking crowd the way Coke Blak has. Maybe I shouldn't talk about my idea as a "great idea that failed" regarding the coffee/coke combination. It was an idea that I didn't act on and probably didn't have the power or the capital with which to act. I just found it ironic that I found it in cans and marketed to the coffee-drinking crowd in a different way. It's all in the marketing. The soda fountain coffee/coke was marketed to a broader market segment than the market Coke intends to target with Coke Blak. Coke Blak is marketed more towards the population segment that is into the "gourmet" coffees with higher concentrations of caffeine. You know. The Starbucks types. They may be the toe-tapping types but they have money. Anhuiser Busch markets their products in ways that would make you recoil (i.e. "Another case of Bud Light is coming out of the closet tonight").
Even a single millimeter of hair on my head feels uncomfortable after maintaining the Mr. Clean look for a year in the desert.0 -
Ive predicted alot of things that came true but I havent been laughed at for any of them. 0 -
Play the lotto. I won't laugh at ya!![:0] I'm here for ya man.[:D] 0 -
Heh heh heh. I don't pay "stupid tax" so I don't play the lotto [:D]
Seriously though. You'd be shocked at the amount of money the average regular lotto player spends on lotto tickets. A "sure thing" would be to invest that money instead of blowing it. The stock market has shown growth over any given 10-year period in its history.0 -
