I actually read the article, which I doubt many here have done. The people calling for a harsher punishment represents a small portion of the country. A larger uprise happened when the cartoons of Mohammad came out. Also, in the article, Muslims outside of Sudan condemn the trial, charges and punishment. Has anyone run into the Boogeyman lately?

We read it too. We are not calling for the elimination of all Moslims. Just emptying the trash from Sudan.

Love the dancing hippo, but the smugness, not so much.

There has been a big commotion about the need to kill this lady who allowed the children to name the Teddy Bear Mohamed. I want to know what we intend to do with the little heretics who actually committed the sacrilege. Should the little bassets be burned at the stake or simply decapitated.

actually i'm glad, because it is showing how they actually are to the rest of the world, this is just the tip of the iceberg compared to the rest of their barbarism

this is the type of people {although they may not be Iraqis } this is the type of people we so valiantly saved from saddam, to me it explains "some" of the methods he used to keep these barbarians under control, even though his methods are not accepted today, you have control these barbarians with what they understand, they prove that theory everyday

Sorry, the posting of a nuculear weapon going off on a country kind of upset me. Can we look at this another way? The teacher broke the law of the country (Yes, dumb law, dumb thing to do, and I don't care for what is transpiring there myself). However, Sudan is a sovereign country, and there for can enact, enforce and sentence laws and people anyway it chooses. The really sad thing about this story is the fact that most of the Sundanese people don't possess the ability to make an informed decision on the case. Like most of the countries in that area there's a huge disproportioned number of uneducated people (read that can't even read) to educated (people in power: politicians and clergy in the area). I think the politicians got the message about what the rest of the world thought when the sentence came down; 15 days in jail (Compare that to the 6mo and 40 lashes she was going to get). Yes, the Sudan is a screwed up country. I have no plans to go there, and the State Dept doesn't allow people to go there either. I'm just a little sick of the hatred against one religion or another on the forum. Just look how many threads we have on this one topic, and all are saying the same thing.

    Aspen,

But it is far easier and much, much more convenient to lump "ALL" Muslims into the extremist category than it is to simply sort out the truly evil Islamic fundamentalists within their midst and kill them.

Again, much like you, I read the article and pulled the same info you did. I also read the multiple reports of other Muslims calling the rally ridiculous and counter-productive. The ability to read and comprehend is a wonderful gift wouldn't you agree?

The ability to see past your nose further than 30 seconds from present is truly a gift, not to mention knowing history and an ability to analyze it.

What a buncha liberal apologetic crock.

The response to the article among the Muslims in town was, "This is F-ing ridiculous." And, 99% of the world agrees.

    Rock,

My ability is not impaired I assure you. I've faced many of these savages during my deployments to both Iraq and Afghanistan. What amazes me is how quickly many will lump an entire group (of oh let's say slightly over 3 (the estimates I found on-line are actually closer to about 1 million so I edited this for clarification and accuracy) Billion people) into one catagory and then suggest we "Nuke Em All".

I'll bet some believe they were born about 60-70 years later than they should have been. Hitler would have appreciate the help.

Back in the early 1970s two Israeli Sailors were attacked by about forty Saudi Sailors at an English Language School on U. S. property. I'm sure the Israelis took great comfort in the knowledge that it was less than 1% of the Saudi Navy.

And I don't trust your statistics.

There's six billion people in the world. You're right, the entire population of Sudan is a lot less than 1%. Heck, the entire Mulim population makes up what? A couple hundred million?

Come on boys and girls, don't get down on the Muslims or their religion. What we really need to remember about Muslims and Islam is that the majority of the decent ones of this peaceful religion have the power, which makes them racist to the radical minorities among them. Therefore, 99% of those who do not make the news in town, or on the international level, need not be heard since it would be racist to announce the feelings of the majority to the world, because only the poor minority deserve to have that right. As everyone knows, a good example of the majority knowing everything would be the presence of sixty Muslim Mosques in Houston, Texas alone. I mean, who wants the masses to be treated like mushrooms, the minority among us? Not on your life! The reporting of such common knowledge needs not be shared if the downtrodden minority is ever to have a voice, or achieve a modicum of success, in the racist societies of the world. Above all, we should know this stuff first hand, because the "poor, minority leaders" here in America tell us 24/7 via the MSM and Fox News, to include, their purely angelic organizations like the NAACP, or their diversity programs that stump for the minds of your children, compassion, and slave reparations in K-12, and in our colleges and universities. For Pete's sake, have a heart! And, whatever you do, don't think black thoughts!

Basically, even though you appear to be a thinking person, you merely offer excuses as to why some people act crazy, murderous, primitive, etc. Point is, the behavior that so many of us here condemn NEVER SHOULD HAVE HAPPENED in a civilized society.

According to who? When did the world get together and decide what constituted a civilized society and what takes place there? The death penalty shouldn't exist in a civilized society according to some, but it's here in the good'ol US. Does that mean we're uncivilized too?

You can debate the question you pose to death. Or, you can just observe the overall, general behavior of various countries/civilizations and answer you own question without having to make a college debate about it.

Not trying to be rude to you, but the situation is just not that complicted.
