Using Pearl Harbor to argue against Japan??
Why must people insist on bringing up Pearl Harbor when discussing the Japanese automobile market in the United States? I was talking to someone the other day about the automobile market. This person was outraged that I would even consider buying a Japanese made automobile. He insisted no one should buy/own anything Japanese made due to Pearl Harbor. I agree, Pearl Harbor was a tragedy, and many, many people lost their lives from a sneaky Japanese attack. However, didn't we make two of their cities ghost towns for a few years with our bombs? Don't get me wrong, I am not condoning Pearl Harbor or saying that I feel sorry for the Japanese still feeling the radiation. My point is, I think we got even when we flattened two of their cities. Why must people bring this into a normal conversation to try and prove a useless point? They killed our people & sank our ships. Therefore, we flattened two of their cities. I think we won that game.

Arizona, which was carrying 1.5 million gallons of oil when it sank. About 2,350 military personnel were killed, along with 68 civilians, and 1,178 were wounded. The Japanese lost only 27 aircraft and a few small submarines. Fighting was over by 9:45 a.m."
What do the stats mean?
Approximately 250,000 Japanese people dead to our 2,350. I know, we lost military equipment, but you can buy/build more, you can't bring our servicemen/women and our civilians back.

Not defending Japan but it's interesting what n industrialised nation will do
if you attempt to cut off it's oil. It certainly eliminates a lot of options. The
real tragedy of Pearl Harbor was that we expected the Japanese to just
laugh off the imminent loss of their oil. FDR and the military knew it was
coming but didn't second guess where ... and how much. A sad blunder of

If you were a veteran of WW2, you may or may not, feel differently.
Some have gotten over it, and are willing to embrace the Japanese,.........others have not.
Put yourself into their shoes, before you attempt to condemn any "hatred" of the modern day Japanese.
Most of the 'greatest generation" are already gone, and the remainder, are leaving us very quickly.
What are we left with? Nothing that compares to them,..........the 60's generation, of which there is another thread here about that now.
Do we have massive advancements in technology? Answer,.......yes!
Do we have the same "stones", that existed back then? Answer,.......no!
And we never will again. It is not because of the military folks that are out there right now,............it is our politicians.
The "Summer of Love" of the 60's,.........castrated this country, by means of how children were brought up, and their "fear" of any kind of conflict.
We are simply seeing the different philosophies of the folks from that generation. Some good,........some VERY bad.
Try to understand where some of the "outrage", against Japanese products come from.

We did not expect them to laugh it off, we merely suggested that if they wanted to continue to kill, rape, and brutalize the Chinese they would have to do it with someone else's oil and scrap iron.
The mistake was not cutting off their oil. The mistake was letting them get the drop on us.0 -

Personally I can only look at those numbers and say.. A hundred to one obviously wasn't enough! That's right, "it wasn't enough".

My Grandfather was a Pearl Harbor Surviver (He is the sailor in the 2nd picture), he was aboard the USS Honolulu! He would never have bought a Jap car!
The first picture is of his ship with the entire bow blow off from a torpedo! The rest are actuall pics from pearl harbor!

Using that logic, why should anyone in the US purchase anything from any other country----we've been in wars with most of the major countries of the world. Why should a "southerner" purchase anything made north of the "Mason-Dixon" line? Before long, you're gonna see cars made in China--sold in the US.
My Dad was in Germany during WWII, under Patton's command. I lost an uncle in Germany during WWII. I have an uncle who fought in the Pacific during WWII.
We've lost sons, daughters, fathers, husbands and wives in Iraq. Does that stop us from using oil from Iraq?

The Japanese were nothing short of monstrous in their behavior during World War II and the fact that they portray themselves as the victims of said war is insulting (to say the least) to the millions of women and girls they raped and the millions of men they enslaved and murdered.
When Japan admits to raping girls for sport and forcing their parents to watch, when they admit to operating upon live American GIs without anaesthetic, when they admit to enslaving untold thousands for sex and labor, then maybe, just maybe, I'll give a rat's @$$ about what happened to them at Hiroshima and Nagasaki.0 -

We more than made up for the Japanese attack at Pearl Harbor during the remainder of WWII. After the war was over, we shook hands and moved on. Now they're one of our closest allies. Who cares if they own a big portion of our economy? Their culture keeps them loyal to their allies until death. 0 -
