I worked at a Standard Station in about '74 or '75 while in High School. The price of regular had just "shot up" to $59.9/gal. People really beefed about it! Yelled at us about the prices!!.........Like a 15 year old kid had anything to do with it!!!!
I also remember having to "call in" ANY Standard Oil charge over $20.00 to get approval to charge that high of amount on a Standard Oil charge card!!!!
BTW if you filled up, you could buy 3 packs of cigs for $1.000 -
I personally am quite elated at the recent price drop in diesel... last month I was paying $3.099/gal for diesel fuel at my favorite Shell station in western Washington... yesterday, it was down to $2.599 a gallon[^]. Filling up my 40 gallon tank is not nearly as painful as it once was[:0][8D] 0 -

About gas being relatively less expensive today than in the past (like 30s and 40s): this should not be a surprise, since refinery efficiency imporved greatly. Catalytic cracking can get more gas out of each barrel of oil and automation has greatly reduced manpower. If prices were higher relative to salaries today, it would be time to bomb the oil companies, since it would be clear that we were being screwed.0 -

We are in the 2.50-2.60 range in Oregon currently. Costco offers regular fuel for a nice discount in the 2.40 range.[:0] 0 -

Max power 29, first let me state that I'm no expert on the world oil reserves. I don't know what the son in law "believes". I do believe he is an authority on this subject. I have discussed this with him in the past, and he says don't worry, there's enough. Something else also leads me to believe this is true. I watched an interview with Rex Ellison, Exxon/Mobil CEO, conducted by Charlie Rose. Rose asked him point blank "are we in danger of depleting the worlds oil reserves in the next 50-70 years", Ellison smiled and stated that there are huge reserves, and there's plenty for the forseeable future. I consider these men reliable sources. Web sites, stats, graphs, etc. can be postured to give the impressions desired by the composers. We'll see what happens. 0 -
