Despite what we think of as high fuel prices, with the exception of Venezuela, we have had one of the cheapest retail gas prices in the world for many years. 0 -

Dak, I think that trend will be with us for sometime to come since our government wants to grow the economy. In order to do this they will do anything and everything to keep those big wheels rolling.0 -
It's sad day when we consider gas at less than $2 per gallon a good price.
I worked at a Bonded Oil station when the price first went over $1 per gallon....0 -

Exactly! Gas is cheaper compared to wages than it was for my dad during the Depression.[:)]0 -
You are right, but then I was just a really young kid at the time (you could drive at 8 in my state [}:)]). I could fill my dad's tank for $2 or under on date nights. I remember seeing gas at 11.9 during gas wars (that is competition between stations, not when we invade other countries). This was about 1963. 0 -

For the inquiring minds that wish to know what ethyl was
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tetraethyl_lead0 -
it needs to be free for the next year to make up for the B.S. 0 -
The higher class stations also had Becky as well as Ethyl so you had a choice. 0 -
The price will vary wildly around the country because of the special formulations requred in certain areas.
Adjusted for inflation, $1.70-1.80 per gallon is about where gas ought to be based upon it being $1/gal in 1990 (I remember the gas station next to my house then had it at $0.99 then) with 3.5% annual inflation. With all the termoil in the middle east right now having gas at $1.90/gal (at the station next to where I work) can hardly be considered high.0 -
I went to fill up at my local Chevron station and noticed that the price of premium dropped four whole cents [:0]. It is now $2.75 per gallon [V]. 0
