went to Ameristar casino, they had the most awesome hamburger I ever did eat. bacon, bbq sauce, cheese, some kind of weird waffle bun, about 4-5" tall and $8. it was worth $8.

other than that, I'd say Rally's gets an E for Effort.

Tommy's and in-n-out are the best for fast food. Claim Jumpers for sit down.

I am really hankering for a Bacon Cheeseburger from Hard Rock Cafe.

By far the best burger I have ever eaten at a restaurant. Also could stand a Hurricane right now. Too bad that there isn't even one of the restaurants in Maine. I have to go grocery shopping and may get some McDonalds, but that is a poor poor substitute.

Where have you gotten the best hamburger? Not counting homemade.

And I've got a real hankering for fresh lobster! [;)][;)][:D][:D][:D]

You might also try the Ambrosia Burger on the back patio of Nepenthe,
Big Sur. Some folks just go for the view.nepenthe.jpg

    Boston Blackie's in Chicago:

    http://bostonblackies.com/

I used to eat at the original location on East Grand occasionally when I was in Chicago on business. Excellent burgers and salads. Later evening, two people (husband/wife, boyfriend/girlfriend) could split a Blackie burger and a Garbage salad and be full. Not fancy but pub-like with reasonable prices.

If you wanted a fancy white table cloth experience then this is the place:

    The Chicago Chop House

    http://www.chicagochophouse.com/home.htm

I'm not sure why anyone would order a burger at the Chop House but I tasted one at a dinner there one night and it was superb, over-priced but definitely superb. The steaks and chops are probably the best in Chicago unless you get the Kobe beef at one of the boutique steak houses there.

    Best.

Being a huge fan of the hamburger, I have been on a quest for the best burger for many years now. I have eaten burgers from east coast to west coast, and from the gulf coast to the rocky mountains, and until I find something better, THE best burger is:

the Gorilla Burger at Mitches in Jena, LA (pop. < 3k).

It's just a plain little old small town place, run by a member of the family that runs most of the resturants in town. Simply the best!

If you ever have occasion to pass through Louisiana on the El Camino Corridor (US Hwy 84), you got to try it.

The very best was at the Chimney Tree Coffee Shop at the north end of the Avenue of the Giants about 60 miles south of Eureka, CA. If you are ever up in that area of the Red Woods do yourself a favor and stop at this fantastic place, you won't regret it. The hamburgers are made from prime cuts of free-range, grass fed beef and they also have great potato salad and old fashion pies.[:p]

I went to Duffy for lunch and got the Presido burger. It was good, but there was nothing exceptional about it. I'll have to go to the place out in Big Sur next time I go, I love going out there.

Red Robin. They make it anyway I want. Sometimes like it with pepper jack, jalapenos, salsa, guac and fried onion. Sometimes with mustard, ketchup, relish, cheese, raw onion. But my mom's on Saturday night growing up were the best in the world. Her french fries rocked too.
