the only reason they killed that cat was to kill it. a bunch of ignorant idiots who would have wet their pants without a gun. there will only be as many cats as there are prey for them to live off
Let it be known..they are not selective in their "prey". It may
consist of cattle, prize horse ranches, your child's pony..or your
child.
They simply don't care where their meal comes from, and can be much
more than a minor nuisance if allowed to over populate.
I too hunted for the meat, for many years, so don't say it don't happen.0 -

I take exception to your comments.

I am willing to bet that you too, would "wet your pants" if confronted by a 200+ lb wildcat[:0].
quote:there will only be as many cats as there are prey for them to live off Being a long-time resident of the pacific northwest, I can assure you that there is plenty of food sources for the cougars to prey on. In addition to all of the wild game (white tail, black tail and mule deer {on the eastern side of the Cascade mountains}, elk, and all of the smaller critters, they also routinely prey on all domestic animals (e.g. cows, sheep, goats, dogs, cats, etc.). In some cases (rare), they have attacked people. Cougars do not kill just for food... they will kill domestic animals for the fun of it.
Again, as a direct result of the ill-thought laws passed in Washington and Oregon prohibiting the use of dogs to hunt the cougar, populations have exploded in the past 10-12 years. Unbeknownst to most of the ultra liberals who populate the Seattle/Tacoma/Olympia area, the state has authorized people to hunt cougar with dogs again. The hunting season is all year long for them - http://wdfw.wa.gov/wlm/game/hunter/cougar/index.htm0 -

Darn I was hopeing that the herd of ultra liberal hikers might be thinned out a bit when they try to pet the nice kittys while gathering vegies/shroons/Pot in the woods! They certainly would not have any of those big ole nasty guns with them.[:0][:0]0 -
Sounds like a PETA member is among us. 0 -

Just like an old Winchester, Bert. You nailed it!!
Thanks!!

I didn't stop to read through all of the posts but and although kitty is huge at 210 lbs., I'd be more afraid of the guy who could pick up 210 lbs. of dead "dead weight" and, while standing in the snow, hoist it fully upright and hold it in a bear hug for the camera.
Sweet mother of pearl!!! You've gotta be some kind of brute strong to do that in the snow with winter clothing on!0 -

WELL turtles11756 this is the second time i have heard you condem hunting
or shooting animals, even condemed Mr. Roosevelt for hunting in africa
but you never say what you do, do you not hunt and not believe in it,
i can understand that, what i don't understand is, if you don't like hunting or hunters and won't say what you do like, why do you hang
around a fourm like this. Are you a PETA spy, sorry if this has upset
anyone. but this is the second time.0 -

I hunt for one reason, food.
you can eat deer, elk, hog, turkey, even bear.
why kill something that your just hang on the wall!
You can buy your food at the super market. There is no more sustinance hunters in the world. In history animals were hunted for Food, Hides and fur among other things. Where did you get the idea that animals were to be hunted for only food?
Without the protection of the animal hides to keep you alive the food would be pretty much useless.
I know I know food and leather jackets can now be bought at WalMart.
You are mistaken....I hunt for meat...and I kill enough game to carry us through the year. I do not buy meat at all. There are quite a few folks in the NW that do the same. I'm new here, but I've been hunting for meat all my life.
I don't believe I am Mistaken.
Modern people who hunt for food do so out of a choice, Not sustinance.
I hear people all the time say "Eat what you kill" and "I only hunt for food"
Historically that is incorrect. There are several reasons to hunt wild animals other then for the food they provide.
There was a time a hunting season was not evn in the picture. People do not hunt for sustinance in this world except maybe the Inuit Indians up north or Aborigini Bush man down south.
All other meat hunters do so by choice.0 -
i have skinned several BOBCATS that i would think would be very close to a cougar except for size, a cat is a cat is cat, their meant is as white as chicken, and i am sure cleaner than chicken. I never ate cat
but don't think it would be a problem
TO A BIG CAT PEOPLE ARE JUST SLOW DEER!
GOD, GUNS AND GUTS MADE AND KEEP AMERICA GREAT0 -
This doesn't surprise me, people also got upset when I made the post about the big gator some buddies of mine killed. 0 -
In south GA we have had to start killing "wild" housecats that have just about wiped out the bobwhites and are working on the songbirds bigtime, panthers(first cousin to the western mountain lion) are here but very rare and we protect them, bobcats are very common ,I have a 45lb male mounted I killed 20years ago deer hunting and will never harvest another unless they get out of control,I love to varmint hunt so coyotes and stray housecats are my mainstay(the coyotes cannot control the housecats).Im sure you guys have a healthy population of the big cats or there would be no open season.beautiful cat in the photo.. 0 -

No...you are mistaken. There are quite a few folks who hunt for sustinance...myself included. It is a large portion of my food budget. I buy no meat whatsoever...this amounts to a very significant amount of money over a years time. I enjoy hunting too...but I do hunt for sustinance.0 -
I understand you hunt to put meat on the table. I have a friend who with his wife travel to Alaska every year and get their 4 caribou and that is the only meat they eat throughout the year. It is not a life or death thing for them to do that, It Is Their Choice.
Your trying to say if for some reason you didn't bag an animal this year your family would starve? I don't think you would.
I am only trying to say hunting for food is a choice made by people and Historically food was not the only reason people hunted. There are atleast eight other reasons in my head right now to hunt wild animals with food only being one of them.
Sustinance in its true meaning, people would not have a problem with killing a cat like in the picture to protect their flock of sheep from the predator, the cat. In a sence that type of hunting is for food. The food that would either go to the cat in the way of lambs or the food that would sustain human life throughout the year. The winner between the cat and human would eat the lamb.0 -
i hang around because i collect guns i just don't need to kill a big beautiful cat to prove what those guns will do or how machco i am by killing elephants, big cats, baited bears etc. and no i definitly would not have wet my pants at the sight of that cat i would have seen him long before he saw me and would have the pictures to prove it. been hunting whitetails in the adirondacks for thirty five years and i'm real good at it. if you live in cougar country watch out for those little ones it will be your fault if something happens not the cats. just don't see any reason to be proud of killing that cat 0 -

What a crock! You make me laugh! Sure, you'd see him first. You'd see him first ripping your throat out before he took you to the ground and pulled your guts out and feasted on you! [:D]
That's about right. Far more people are stalked by mountain lions, than there are that actually see one in the wild.0 -

If that cat was hunting YOU, all your whitetail hunting experience wouldn't keep you from becoming a large pile of steaming scat.
You would get a decent burial though, because I've seen them bury their business just like a housecat does.[:0][;)]0 -
now i see your all scared of moutain lions so kill them all . your ignorant just like i said 0 -
WOW! A picture is worth a thousand words. I didn't realize that sharing it creates this much controversy. 0 -

I guess the point went way over your head.0 -
nothing went over my head, my point is it is a great trophy I would have taken it , if you want your meat from " the store" get it there if you don't want to hunt, don't just quit being holier than thou [ like the queers trying to make us agree with their CHOICE] if ya don't want to shoot the dang cat THEN DON'T! 0 -

Show me one place in my post I said I wanted my meat from a store and that I dont want to hunt. Are really that dense?0 -
what part went over my head? I took that as you disagreeing with my post about hunting. 0 -
Maybe I have done a poor job of getting my point accross.
I am an avid hunter and have hunte cats and have many friends that hunt.
I was simply just trying to say to people of the hunt for food only and I eat what I hunt crowd that there are more then one reason to hunt.
Fall black bear hunt in Alaska and they will recomend you dont eat the meat of a coastal stream bear because of the salmon they have been eating.
I can't say it any simpler then hunting for food is not the only reason to hunt.0 -

I got your point. I only hunt for the challenge of the sport. I never eat what I kill. I find a family in my parish to give the meat to or I donate it to the "share the harvest" program that the conservation dept. has here in Mo.0 -

no you got it across just fine I did not read the last post before I opened my mouth I see what you are saying and actually agree with it I just cant get over these people that try to tell us we are wrong for hunting I have a nephew that loves to shoot but has no interest in hunting just says he has no desire to kill an animal but does not run around telling others they should not do it and I don't pressure him to see my point we just respect each other's opinion and I hunt and we from time to time go shoot paper or clays, my apologies for not reading completely before opening mouth or keyboard as it is[;)]0
