You can buy your food at the super market. There is no more sustinance hunters in the world. In history animals were hunted for Food, Hides and fur among other things. Where did you get the idea that animals were to be hunted for only food?

Without the protection of the animal hides to keep you alive the food would be pretty much useless.

I know I know food and leather jackets can now be bought at WalMart.

but yes I only hunt for the food, being I am not making cat rugs, beaver skin hats.

Hey, never fear! Since CA, WA and OR now have laws against using dogs and or baiting cougars to hunt them. The little kitties are breeding like rabbits and getting much bigger.

California passed the laws long before Oregon and WA did so that is why they are having more sightings and attacks than we are in the NW.
Give it another ten years and lets see how safe it will be to hike in the woods alone.[:0][:0]

You should know that many people, myself included, consider cougar to be some of the finest table fare to be had.
Don't assume that noone is going to be enjoying the 100+ lbs. of steaks and roasts that would come from a cat that size.

I know Hound Hunters here in Washington and they call Cougar The Other White Meat.

There still are several hound hunters in Washington state even though there is now season. It is all state approved for population control. The public just doesn't know about it.
One of my good friends is heavily into hound hunting for Cats.

That being said, I too hunt for food. Not because I have to, but because I choose to. I do it for the enjoyment of the hunt, comradarie, experience, and the food. And yes, people do eat kitty.

I wasn't knocking Kimbercolt for why he hunts I was just trying to say that through out history animal hides were as important as the food from the flesh of animals. With out the protection that the hide provided the humans against the cold and nature in general they would have all been dead and the food would have just layed there and spoiled. Or a big sabre tooth tiger might have ate it?

Agreed, after I posted I went back and read it, and it came across a little harsh. My apologies.[;)]

The old mountain men use to say cat was the
    best eating of all.

sure hope those guys in the pics. weren't
hunting with the dogs. It's not legal in
    oregon.

I was thinking the same thing moonshine. Maybe they were just taking the dogs for a walk and the cat jumped them? Pretty hard to hunt them without dogs though. That is why Oregon is seeing the mountai lion populations soar.

The only reason I won't hunt cats is out of respect for my wife. She is a HUGE cat lover and she would never look at me the same if I shot a cat of any kind.

Not too sure where you live, but the entire pacific northwest is infested with cougar (Mountain lions). Eastern Washington state has a real problem with the population, and parts of western Washington are becoming over populated with them as well. The over population problem in Washington was started when the do-gooder animal rights activists push through an initiative that outlawed hunting cougar & bear with dogs... in the ensuing years, the population of both has sky-rocketed to the point that certain areas have real problems.

the only reason they killed that cat was to kill it. a bunch of ignorant idiots who would have wet their pants without a gun. there will only be as many cats as there are prey for them to live off

Some of us like to hunt the things the cats hunt and eat. It is just like the Wolf problem. They were gone and the Elk and Deer populations went up. By next year (when the Wolves are delisted) you will be able to get a hunting license for Wolves. When the Wolves are down to manageable populations the Elk and Deer populations will go back up to previous good populations.

Heh, heh, heh............and of course, prey, that includes men, women and little children plus their little cute pet dogs and cats.[:(][:(]

That the same response that we hear from our "Urban" friends here in Portland. None of them are from here but yet they seem to know whats best for the woods and creatures that live here.

Yes, I would wet my pants if I ran into that cat without some kind of protection.[:0][:0]

That's a dandy cat!! I've always wanted to shoot a cougar, for the mount. I had no idea they were good to eat.
I read somewhere for every cougar spotted there are probably seven more in the area........Whether or not that's true, I don't know.
I do know a 210lb. cat had to have eaten alot of wildlife!

The only reason they killed that cat was for the thrill of the hunt...and there is nothing wrong with that. Most people who say they hunt for meat are not being honest with themselves.

There are only to types of people in this world predators and prey. American males in particular need to stop asking for permission from our wives, churches, and government to simply be men.

My wife just told me that she read in the paper that eastern Oregon is giving out some Cougar hunting permits to cut the population down a bit. The Cougars are becoming a problem by killing off livestock so officials are allowing limited, targeted area hunts.

You are mistaken....I hunt for meat...and I kill enough game to carry us through the year. I do not buy meat at all. There are quite a few folks in the NW that do the same. I'm new here, but I've been hunting for meat all my life.

By the way turtle, why don't you take your elevator up to the 96th floor and jump off. Everyone, including you, has the right to my opinion.
