Maybe I don't know all the details but what's wrong with a mentally ill person not being allowed to own a gun?
"That's a good question, So tell me, how long have you had this unhealthy fascination with guns?"0 -

SARGE, your dead on. Look at the tens of thousands of returning Vets seeking help for PTSD (which I think the DOD and VA have finally cracked the code on) Many will be medically discharged as mentally unfit to return to combat, with 2640 you will have thousands of Soldiers that fought defending our rights not even be allowed to exercise theirs.
And to make it worse now many will not get the help they need for fear of losing their rights!
Thanks, I belive that alot of Americans are really near sighted and just don't get the big picture. Our crooked goverment has it figured out how they can disarm the populance, and make some have that feel good feeling that it will save lives. In actuality, it cost lives. If you can't get a firearm to defend yourself, then you are at risk of being a victim. A law like this still won't truly disarm a crazy, as like meth heads will steal what they want. If there weren't any restictions on firearms possession, then once that crazy person went over board he would probably be eliminated without hurting anyone else. I always felt that everyone should be armed and trained to use their firearm, and those that won't abide by the rules of life will be eliminated. Would be a good way to clean the gene pool and keep those border line fools in check, which would thus decrease crimes on the innocent. Just common sense,0 -
If you really wanted to seize all the guns and not worry about a fight for them...who do you disarm first?...the ones most traied to use them!...the VETS.
This bill is just another step in that direction.0 -
I hear the anti-gun people...some on this thread..speak of 'common sense', 'common sense laws', as part of their stump speech advocating laws aimed at the heart of freedom.
What part of common sense dictates that 230-odd years after a long, bloody affair started after BRAVE men fired upon government troops that were attempting to disarm them...that we should once again find it 'common sense' to allow ANOTHER government to regulate, restrict, and ultimately..disarm us ?
For MY part of it...the cowards, the government lovers, the 'security at any price' people will ALWAYS be with us..and it damn well is high time we that support the Second Amendment...AND the Constitution..stop paying the slightest attention to those people.
I see a culture self-destructing because at any given time in history, there are only a small percentage of 'rugged individuals'..and when the ignorant and weak are allowed to vote...they vote for what they perceive as 'strong'..filling the gap in their own makeup.
Don't tell me that Evolution doesn't work...and work well. We have in this country made the weak as strong...STRONGER...then the most intelligent, freedom loving man out there...and their multitude of weak, whining voices have drowned out..perhaps forever..the principled, ringing words of the best the world had to offer.the FOUNDERS.0 -

I want to be clear here. I am talking about the common sense rules of life, the way God intended, NOT the goverments rules, because most of the rules they come up with these days are illegal and unconstitutional.0 -
As a "few" responses have broached,.........what if this law is broadened to include anyone on an SSRI, or any type of drug for "depression, anxiety", etc.?
How many folks here are on one of those drugs for one reason, or the other?
I have seen reports stating that between 50, and 60% of the populace is on one or more of those types of drugs, on the advice of their physician.
What a way to immediately disarm over half of the country at one time,...........all under the guise of protecting us from "loons"!
Better start to pay attention folks!![}:)][xx(]0 -
[V] this is truely a sad day. 0 -
Hunter Mag, I am genuinely surprised that you would make this statement:

You guys think that you should have the right to decide who can own guns and who can't by deciding who should be able to buy guns and who can't instead of the government.
That is the total and complete opposite of what I, and a few others, have been saying. I don't blame you for wanting to change sides in this debate, but don't you think this is a little extreme?
I won't say no, but I'll say HELL NO, I don't and should not have the right to decide who can own guns, and according to the Constitution nobody else does either, INCLUDING the government.

That it's an induvidual issue. This is the very thing you say the government shouldn't be doing.
The only indvidual issue is if I decide if I want to own a gun or not, not if you don't like the way I dress or look dictates wheather I should own a gun.
We can agree on the above quote, even though it doesn't fit in with what you have been saying or the way you close out your post.
The first ten Amendments to the Constitution also known as the "Bill of Rights" are indeed INDIVIDUAL RIGHTS. Nobody, and I mean nobody, has the authority to infringe on those rights without due process of Constitutional law and that includes the government.
There are people who will tell you that the First Amendment and the Third through Tenth Amendments are individual rights given to the people by the government, but the Second Amendment is a right given to the government by the government.
I will tell you that these people are wrong. All Ten Amendments are INDIVIDUAL natural rights which predate the Constitution and are recognized and affirmed in the Constitution.
Lest there be any doubt about the limits of the power of Congress or the government to pass and enforce laws, the Founders had the foresight to include the Tenth Amendment which says:
quote:Tenth Amendment
The powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the States, are reserved to the States respectively, or to the people.

And yes it is common sense that felons and mentally ill people should not own guns. No I'm not talking about a speeding ticket or someone that gets counseling for family problems. Ya think some mass killer that gets 5 years in a mental institution should be allowed to go right out and buy a gun the day he gets out? If so then you are part of the reason the government makes laws like this.
The justification for unrighteous law is other unrighteous law? Now there is some common sense.
Turning criminals and the insane out on the street is the justification for nullifying the Second Amendment of the Constitution? Now there is some common sense.
No. I'm not the reason the government makes laws like this. The government is the reason the government makes laws like this.

Yet you are intolerant of those who are not inline with your every belief.
Yes, I am intolerant of any attempt to dismantle the Constitution or any part of it.

Seems to me there's plenty of bigotry and hipocrisy going around.[xx(]
If that makes me a bigot and a hypocrite, then I'll wear the label.0 -

No, as I've said before, the judiciary is completely broken or we wouldn'rt even be discussing this. In your example, I think the individual should be executed. How else can his debt be paid? Pretty hard to buy a gun when you're dead.
But this one example of yours is but one of many/most where the judiciary fails to punish a criminal, so the legislative punishes the law abiding gunowner with a pre-emptive guilty until innocent punishment, in an attempt to disarm/subjugate us. It's BS!0
