No more horse meat to eat
Illinois passed a law banning the processing of horse meat for sale. Next thing you know they will ban eating squirrels and fish-eye pie. The law put 60 people out of work, shut down a 20 million dollar a year business in a small town and the horses are still going to be slaughtered. It is now that they have to endure a much longer train ride to Canada or Mexico to get cut up into steaks and sold on the foreign market where horse meat is prized. Thanks SPCA for lobbying for this pro-horse law that sends 20mil to another country, puts 60 americans on un-employment and causes more stress to the doomed animals.

They didn't have to close the plant. They could have expanded it and canned the Horses right there. You know what people pay for dog food?
France ain't exactly a rich place. I've been there. Couldn't have sold it for much over there.
"The older the horse, the more tender it is; it's the opposite of other meats," said Jean-Claude Terraillon, proprietor of J.Cl. Terraillon, a Geneva horse meat wholesaler and retailer.

I'd say most of the information on the linked page is true,,[:D] they are trying to save the horses,, and France buys a lot. GOOD FOR YOUR HEART!!

why do we want to eat horse again? 0 -
In NW Wyoming, where I live, some folks have stopped branding horses. The idea is that if you have a bad one, you can just turn it out on the BLM (which owns most of this basin). Personally, I would rather use one of the two remaining options: shoot and bury, or sell it to somebody stupider than you. The last one is tough -- I've been looking for that guy for years. 0 -

I've eaten horse more than a few times. Tastes about the same as kangaroo but a lot more tender. Kangaroo tastes like a cheap grain fed steer. I prefer grass fed beef without the steroids, anti-biotics and ground up dead animal meal, but it takes a lot of land to graze feed a herd. 0
