The lady spokesperson for the SPCA said that we revere horses in America and that they are a noble beast that should be above becoming Mongolian BBQ. She said she sometimes straps a small saddle and bridle on her naked body and has her girlfriend put the spurs to her. She claims that if everyone tried it they would see that the horse is a sensual and feeling creature. Then she got the entire Illinois assembly to prance and whinnie while she smacked each on the rump with a riding crop. The spokesman for the slaughter house only brought some graphs and charts. He didn't stand a chance.

Now there is an issue I can get excited about.

We've had that same law here in California for about ten years. Horse meat for pet food is still allowed but you can't eat it. Madness.

Well there are two sides to every opinion. The side that made the most noise won and the side that sat on their asses lost.

None of that 20mil. ever came from me ..Sorry to hear it anyhow. I can see where some under privileged persons, that cannot hunt, would have benefited from the horse-meat trade..Was it more, or less, costly than beef?

Met a trucker from Texas once. He was hauling horse meat on the hook. A big ol' semi-tractor trailer truck load. He was heading for the shipyard to load out to France. They treat it as a delicacy there. He said the meat company called it "quality horse meat", but it was really just a bunch of old nags. His name was Tommy Lee Cornstubble. No lie. I'm not kidding. He was a large man. I could not laugh. Really nice guy. Bon apetit Frenchy, sacre veinard.

That plant is in the next town over from me....There has been a battle going on for several years now. As usual the liberal
panty wastes that run Illinois made a decision based on emotion.

    Correct...

but not right... anyone ever remember the story ALIVE? People ate people to survive! Freedom is making your own choices, choices about what and why you eat what you eat is your business. Does anyone remember barbaro? they eventually "put him down" cause of his leg! he broke it in a race. He should've been sold, as the famous barbaro take a bite of history! I would never eat horse, but that is MY CHOICE! I would never burn my flag that is so franchised by my gov, again that is my choice!

Where in the hell do lawmakers get the idea that they have the ability or right to make peoples choices for them? When did this start happening? Do people not understand other people are not their business! It amazes me that people do not demand their god given rights! God does not bring you TV, Doritos, Beer, Guns, etc.. Some here will beg to differ if there is even a God and that is fine it is your choice! But obviously I believe there is a God a powerful and a jealous God! that is my opinion if it offends you well too damn bad! It is your choice to be offended. My belief in God or as some say my religion is where I feel my rights are derived from, my right to be a sole entity, my right to decide what I want where and when I want it. If you examine most people they are fascinated with all these fantastic things man has created; While completely ignoring God. I haven't been to church in at least 13 years, I do not feel the need to congregate with people who may believe in God, but may believe totally different than I.

God is the reason all men should have guns, in my opinion. The founders of our once great nation knew this. Eating horse meat is why you should own a gun, to defend your choice! who in the hell is hurt if you wanna eat horse meat, besides the horses! To hell with the horses! Just like cows and chickens! Let me say it again if I haven't already I would never eat horse meat but if you want to go right ahead it hurts me NONE!!!

    GOD GUNS AND GUTS!

I've never eaten horse meat that I know of, and as long as I can get something else, other than dog or rat, I don't expect I'll try it, but I don't see where anybody has the right to tell anybody which animals they can eat. Lambs are pretty cute. Should they be next?

    People eat little cute lambs?[:0]
During the time I refer to as "Starvation Outpost", I spent a great deal of time in thought and effort attempting to capture, kill and feast upon a small feral cat. That cat was probably starving itself even though it was a much better hunter than I. I don't crave feline meat nor would I order it in a restaurant even if it was the blue plate special, but when your stomach is inching towards your liver thinking some onions would be nice, you will eat anything. I don't mean just being hungry. That feeling goes away after a couple weeks. I am talking about your own body having used up every fat cell and devouring proteins that effect strength and brain function. Unless you have been there you can't really say what you would or would not eat. It is like in those cartoons where the guys on the island see each other as steaks or something, except you are looking at a loin roast that oddly enough attaches at your knee. Then you rationalize that you will only eat a little so you should still be able to walk pretty good. If I'd have seen a horse I would have stuck my head up his butt and not stopped chewing until I was wearing his teeth for dentures.

I can't think of anything I'd starve to death before I'd eat, but rats and sweet potatoes are pretty low on the list.

he actually brought up the movie Alive and said he could not do that either then asked me if I could, I told him in that situation that if he wasn't dead yet but looked bad he'd better sleep with one eye open and looking for me!
I agree. wait not on the sweet taters!!!!!!!!!

What is ironic, is that the folks who are champions of this kind of thing have the most idealistic and fantacized idea about what an animal is.

It is anthropormorphic, the animal takes on so many human traits in this bambyfied ideal, that it is no longer a horse, cow, rabbit or whatever. It becomes a surrogate child.

I've said for years our culture spends too much time and money personifying animals, most are food! even them rattlesnakes and sharks that have so many "rights and supporters"!

Just so you know, as far as I know, there's no law stating you can't eat horse meat. If you want to go out and buy yourself a horse and slaughter it for your own food, I'm pretty sure you can do it. The horse slaughter industry has brought alot of this on themselves, and it's a very complicated issue. I am not anti-slaughter, but agree that some things had to change. One thing for sure, it really has hurt the horse market.

I am sorry to say that Ky. is one of the states that has pushed to do away with the slaughter of horses .
Since the market for killer horses has closed and due to the drought some are turning horses out just to get rid of them.

No they didn't. They are animals not people. People are at the top of the food chain not horses.

If God didn't want us to eat horse, he wouldn't have made 'em taste so good.
Just kidding; I've never eaten horse as far as I know.
I don't see the difference in eating that or beef or pork or sheep though. It's just an animal.

Edit: they gotta die somehow; might as well make use of them.

That's modern (liberal) America for you. Don't eat horses but it's okay to kill unborn babies.

Personally, I have no desire to eat horses, dogs or people -- unless starving. Would still pass on the people, I think, but then again I have never experienced starvation. But even the slaughter of horses for dog food is being discouraged, and now this part of the world is being overrun with bad horses that NEED to be slaughtered. For every good horse, there are three bad ones that are taking up space. Kinda like humans.

They didn't have to close the plant. They could have expanded it and canned the Horses right there. You know what people pay for dog food?

France ain't exactly a rich place. I've been there. Couldn't have sold it for much over there.
