POP QUIZ...Your in a store guy enters with gun...
OK you AND your family are in a store (Lets say small 1000 square foot convenient type store)
For this scenario your family consist of your significant other and one 3 year old child.
You and your family are in the back of the store when you hear shouting at the front counter. You look down the aisle and see one male in a hooded sweat shirt (hood up and sunglasses on, 5'10", average build, 18-20 years old) yelling at the cashier (16-18 year old female) waving what looks like a semi auto handgun around tell her to give him all the money in the drawer. The cashier is frozen, turning white and unresponsive to the guy yelling.
The back of the store is all glass door fridges and at one end there is a door that you are not sure where it goes but it is ajar.
There is one door at the front of the store next to the register.
You have a .357 S&W (6 rounds) 3 inch barrel that your are reasonably accurate with. You have NO extra ammo. It is in a holster on your strong side. You have a cell phone in your pocket also.
From back of store to front of store is 25 feet.
From where you and your family are it is 15 feet to rear door.
There is no one else in the store.
The store is on a rural road.

Send the family toward the back assuming there is not going to be an easy way for the BG to head in that direction. WIfe on the cell calling 911 while on the move. You move forward to "see" what you can do to keep the defenseless clerk from becoming a victim while keeping you and yours as safe as you can.

Well, With my hard head id send the girl and my kid out to call 911 and id try to do something...

just trying to make it real let's face it how many people who carry concealed actually carry extra rounds? (OK besides the die hard people on here)
I always try to carry at least an extra clip or speed loader but there are times I don't.
So lets say this person carries 50% of the time when they leave home today was one of the days just happened to pick up gun and strap it on on way out the door.
trust me if I ever ended up in this situation I know I am going to be wishing I had lots of extra ammo.0 -

trust me if I ever ended up in this situation I know I am going to be wishing I had lots of extra ammo.
When I carry my full size I use to carry a spare all the time but don't as often these days. With my full sized that would be 16 rds. When I carry my compact it only holds 7 rds. I often think I wont need my spare mag, but I do grab it because you never know when you will need it.
I also make it a point to keep a small powerful flashlight on me. I usually have a 6v Surefire of some sort on me. A spare mag and a light are not that large but will make a huge difference when needed.0 -
I not only carry extra ammo, I ALWAYS carry an extra firearm.
What I'd like to think I'd do is tell the female to take the child out the back as I was simultaneously putting 3 rounds in the bad guy.
One thing my many years of living have proven to me, is that no one knows what they will do when a hypothetical situation becomes real.
Unless you have seen that elephant, you have no idea how you would react.
You can only pray that your training would kick in and you'd do the right thing.

I'd put the wife and kid behind door #2. Wouldn't want the POS getting to one of them(maybe the wife)[:D]anyway if I knew the POS had a gun(you said it looked like it)not good enough. But if he did I'd tell the scum to drop it while hiding behind something so when he turned and fired I could drop him. I have a s&w 686 and can hit a tennis ball at 75yds so I'm positive I could drop him from 20' if necessary.

I don't carry extra rounds, but, do carry a couple of small baggies filed with rock salt. So, in this scenario, I would pull out a baggie and wave it at the BG, while shouting, "Hey, trade you some crack for that HiPoint?" In rural Maine, I substitute a bottle of fake oxycontins for the crack. 0 -

Why would one need extra rounds when there is only one bad guy? Are some of you that bad of shot? If you cant hit your target with one round, you need to leave your weapon at home til you get more range time.
In this instance, I would escort my wife and child out the back door if possible and/or get them to a safe place, call the police, and stay with my family til it is all over. In an instance like this, my family will need me more than any other stranger. I would not want to risk them loosing me for my heroism. Anyone who thinks they would do anything else really doesn't love their family or they are just plain ignorant.0 -

Considering the trend for robbers to needlessly kill their victims and witnesses, I might be inclined to take the bad guy out before he realized I was there. It sounds cold, I know, but this is Texas, by God, and we don't worry too much over robbers that commit suicide in this way. 0 -

Seriously, I would put the wife and child at the end of an aisle on the floor and shoot the guy with my 3" .357. Just remember he may not be alone. If you only have 6 rds. best get his weapon away from him. Then after the shooting go get a Dr. Pepper out of the cooler.0 -

Hide the family in the back. Call 911. Take up defensive position and wait. Say a prayer for the clerk. If he I can determine 100% that he has a gun I'd shoot given the opportunity but I'd stay defensive. 0 -

David..... Thats not "cold" at all. If he is threatening the clert or anyone else and you pop him from behind......well that one of the hazards of being a robber.
I would make sure my loved ones are reasonably secure, then go after him. I would have no problem with dropping him with a shot he never knew was coming.
In Calif, at least, there is no requirement that he be given a chance to surrender. The first thing he would hear from me is my gun going off.0 -
