What's a good chainsaw.
I dropped my chainsaw today in the river. Seems like I'm not going to be happy til everything I own is either at the bottom of a very big lake, or bottom of a river.
Anyway whats a good chainsaw for the money. I just want a small chainsaw that's going to last. It doesn't have to be fancy with bells and whistles. It just has to cut wood. It has to be small enough to be able to be carried on an atv too.

It sounds like you need to stay away from water. Didn't you loose a camera part there too?
I would give you more then one idea but I didn't know anyone but Stihl made chainsaws [:D]0 -

Yeah, so far I have a purse that had my camera, 38 special, keys, cell phone, make-up, pictures, wallet, credit cards, multi-tool, and a pack of skittles I just brought. Now I can ad chain saw to the list.0 -

I was walking along the bank ans slipped. I caught myself, but let go of the chain saw. It hit the bank and rolled in. It's very a very steep bank and the river is deep there.
I entertained the idea of diving for it, but I just rather not.0 -

Jacob...do tell, please, how did the chain saw act? Did they use Checkov's techinique, or maybe the Strasberg method? Being chain saws, I bet they used the Stanislavsky system!

I have 3 Stihls, of different sizes. My youngest one is 5 years old and the old man is pushing 30 years, and STIHL RUNNING.
They are work horses. Like anything else you get what you pay for. Problem is they dont float either,[8D][:0][;)][8D]0 -
Since I own 3 Stihl chainsaws, guess what saw I am going to recommend. The type of job you do and/or intend to do with the saw will determine which model saw to purchase. It also depends on how thick your wallet is. You would be looking at the mid $400 for a MS260 or MS280. These models are general all around saws and will last you a lifetime. I have had my Stihl 028 for 28 years and it still starts on the first pull. 0 -

Try a pawn shop. They seem to have a whole table full of them out front, might be able to get a good one at a good price although pawn shops historically like to price used stuff at or above the cost of a new product.
See what a new one costs, offer half and make them show you that it does in fact work.
Try to get a fairly new one that doesn't show a lot of use, with a chain that isn't worn out.
Stay away from the river or attach a floatation device.[:D]0 -
A Husqvarna or a Stihl. I run Husqvarna's and my buddy runs a Stihl, both great saws!

Actually Bob, its the chain[:0] where I come from,,,but really, Stihls are exceptional working tools and I have cut enough wood to build an Ark! 0 -
I have a Stihl myself. Haven't ahd a problem with it. Friend of mine has an Echo, and he swears by it. A Husqvarna is another one that is a good brand to go with. JMHO. 0 -

I vote for Stihl, but mine is an old John Deere. Little sucker 27cc with a 16 inch bar. I think back in the day, Echo made them for John Deere. It takes a beating. In the summer, I've seen fresh gasoline boil as I fill the tank. Shortly after that, it will start to vapor lock, but it takes 3-4 tanks in +95 heat to have that kind of problem.
It is kind of fun to watch gasoline boil in a hot chainsaw.
Has anybody every tried the new John Deere saws. I know they are Homelite, except professionally made.
I do like the small "arborist" saws. Light weight. One can easily cut with one hand or overhead. Good for clearing brush or the inevitable zombie chainsaw fight. Very much underated and most dealers don't push their sales enough. There is a huge market for the small saws.0 -

I have a homelite I uses about once or twice a year, If I was going to cut up 4 or 5 cords every year I would get one of them high priced ones, But some one told me that you can no longer get parts for homelits's 0
