where were you 9-11 and..........
i know it's a bit early but any way
where were you?
what went through your mind?
what image stuck in your head the most, the image that is almost recalled every time you hear of 9-11?
i was on the "other forum" as the news hit watching it as soon as the first plane hit, i have to admit i panicked a bit and was glad we lived in the country at the time
dumbest thing i heard, that i have not heard about since, live on the air a female news anchor said "can't they stop these planes by putting up a net?"

I was at work. My wife left work and went to gather up the grandkids.
While watching on CNN, that evening, I saw them unfurl the huge American flag over the Pentagon. I lost it. Cried like a baby.0 -
I was home - watching the huge dust cloud when the second tower went down.
I thought maybe it was like Orson Welles "War of the Worlds" broadcast in 1938.
After I finally believed it had really happened, my thoughts were: "I'm watching the beginning of the end."
And - I think I was.

I was teaching my students the Petty Officer 3rd class training in Charleston, SC. One of the other instructors came in and said that a plane had just hit the WTC. I left the classroom and when with him up to the Directors office (he had a TV with CNN). There were about 20 other guys up there. Once we figured out what was going on, I went back to the classroom with a radio so my students could hear it as it was happening. After the Pentagon was hit, the CO came on the 1MC and cancelled classes for the rest of the day and put the command on lock-down. I spent the rest of the day patrolling the barracks and getting updates from the students that had TVs in their rooms. 0 -
Same room, same everything. The image that will always stay with me was seeing people falling from the towers. They stopped showing that early, of course. I don't remember if I saw that in the first few hours or not. The other scene that most impressed me was the towers collapsing and the people running. Horrible. Then, seeing people in the raghead countries dancing in the streets were more then I could stomach......[:(!][:(!]

My wife and I were at the outer banks for our wedding..we watched the whole thing from our house on the news..we were in shock..we called home to talk with our parents and to touch base with friends..then we waited till noon and called the preacher, we still got married that day 9-11-01 on the beach just like we planned for a yr..that was I believe the only good thing that happened that day..later we sat on the deck of our house and watched the f-16s rip up and down the coast line..saw two pair of them every 15 mins or so..about 500ft off the water..it was pretty gut tightening..they flew for the rest of our stay [2 weeks] and the helo's as well loaded for bear..I get sickened to think about the scum that flew those planes and I will never forget the HEROS who passed on that day...Loko [V][;)] 0 -

Couldn't wait to get Bin Laden.......I'm still waiting, it seems0 -
I was in the hospital suffering from salmonella poisoning. Wife called me from work, that morning, and told me to turn on the TV. I watched as it unfolded. Was able to watch (TV) everything for the next several days.
My one and only grandchild was, also, born that same day in North Carolina.0 -
i was in high school, at lunch, and i always went and visited with my favorite teacher Mr. Morrow, went in their for lunch and he said DAVE DAVE, come look at this, he was a world history teacher, and he gave me the whole breakdown on Bin Laden, who he was, where he was from, his history. We had a kid from India named Kenny in our class, he didnt fair to well with all the other kids asking him why his parents bombed our buildings. He must have explained he was from India about 50 times. 0 -
[8D]I was staying at the El Dorado in Reno and was coming down for some late breakfast--
--2 little old timers got on the elevator on the 7th floor with suitcases and FEAR, they were Ghost white, so I asked them, what was wrong and all they could say was "Watch the TV we're being invaded"--

I was asleep when at 8:50am I heard pounding on my door. My ride for college that morning doesnt usually come until 9:30am. When I opened up the door it was my friend that I drive to school with. Immediatley I saw a look on his face that I knew something was wrong. He said "have you seen the news" ? I hadnt because I was asleep. He then said "terrorists have hijacked multiple planes and brought down the trade center and the Pentagon and are attacking us". I knew right off the bat he was serious and not joking. We went inside so I could turn on the TV. Before I turned it on he said "they might have more planes". At that moment I got scared and wondered if this was a HUGE attack and if America was at war. I turned on the TV and watched the fottage. I live on the west coast so by 9am our time everything had been over. The footage of the planes slamming into the trade center and them falling was just unbelievable.
As a side note : The friend who came over to wake me up is a pilot now. His father is an American airlines pilot who just a month prior to 9-11 was flying the Boston - LA route that was hijacked.0 -
I was at work. I had to go to City Hall on an errand, and saw on one of the TVs there a plane hitting the WTC. I was aghast. I drove back to the PD and the same thing was on the TV there. The announcer said that, depending on the time of day, there could be as many as 30,000 people in the World Trade Center.
I don't often show emotion at work, but I wept like a child.0 -
Just below Acworth Ga on the phone diputing a cell phone bill with my carrier when it happened made my delivery in Fairburn Ga was when I found out, turned on the radio and was in shock ,cried when I got home and my wife said why are they doing this to our country? still pisses me off today! 0 -

The second plane hitting the tower.0 -
At collage waiting for my first class of the day, Airframe General. Instructor said that the FAA was shutting us down until further notice. They couldn't teach and we couldn't leave.
I saw it on TV just as the second tower got hit.0 -
Sophomore in high school, I was sitting in my world history class trying not to fall asleep as the teacher droned on and on and on... The classroom phone rang, Mr Zorn answered it, and walked completely silently to the opposite corner of the room where his desk was and tuned the tv on to CNN. The first tower was smoking, and the second one hadn't been hit yet.
That is the image that I recall every time I think about it.0 -
I was staying at my sisters place (crystal and i were going through a small problem and we decided to take a break) and i was asleep in bed.
My sister called me to wake me up and told me to turn on the tv. my only thought was to call crystal and find out if she was ok. i worked at waldenbooks at a local mall at the time...they decided to close early that day so i stayed home and watched the entire thing. after 2 hours, i was finally able to reach crystal, she had me pick her up from work, they closed early too. it took a little while longer to reach my parents.0 -
I was in CA and had just started my daily drive to work when the first plane hit and it was announced on the radio. At that point I thought it was just an unfortunate and inconceivable accident. Just before I pulled into the parking lot at work, the second plane hit and when it was announced on the radio I had that sick feeling and knew they weren't accidents. 0 -
I was working the 11 to 7am hootowl shift. I slept through the whole thing, and was woke up about 5pm. That's when I found out. Was rough going back to work that night. 0 -
Having a nightmare the time of the tower getting hit.......I was dreaming of beautiful green grass, palm trees, and birds chirping, but for some reason was crawling on my belly up a hill, as I reached the top of the hill and peaked over all I saw was black, black ground, torched trees, little fires scatered, and explosions going off covering the once calm peaceful sounds of birds chirping.
I woke from not so sober state to my father shaking me and saying we are being attacked. It was weird. I thought I was still dreaming for a moment. As I entered the living room the second tower was hit at that moment. All I could do was just watch in horror. We waited, watched, then heard of the pentagon being hit. That was it, we grabbed the guns, ammo, and some canned goods and some water jugs and headed for the buddies house.
This guy was ready man, all that talk of y2k freaked this guy out enough to built a underground bunker with a air cleaner, water supply, generator, and all kinds of dryeid foods and what not, needless to say this guy was ready to lay low for a good month.
We watched, and watched, and watched, until it came, the moment we all knew was going to come..............the time to take reveng[}:)]e0 -
Had just gotten up and was getting ready for work, my sister in law called and asked where Gail was, [my wife is a flight attendant], and told me that a plane had hit the W.T.C. I told her that Gail had just flown out to work that morning so it wasn't her flight, then turned on the t.v.in time to hear the news that the pentagon was hit. I went to work but spent the rest of the day hoping that my sister who worked there was ok. She got a hold of my mom late in the day, told us that she had been in the other side of the building and was unhurt, but she lost several friends. 0 -
I was at work getting ready to attend a sales meeting at a car dealership, as i walked through the service department lobby a tv was on CNN and the first tower had just been hit. Nobody was buying cars that day (or month) so the boss allowed us to watch for the remainder of the work day. This was the start of the "Keep America Rolling" campaign from Chevrolet and 0% financing on vehicles that you still see today.
My most vivid memory was the feeling I got when the 2nd tower was hit and I realized this was no accident, and the look on President Bush's face when he was notified in that classroom.0 -
I was bored watching tv and actualy watching the news channel, I saw a recording of the first plane hitting minutes after it happend and watch the second one live. I knew it was a terrorist attack after the first.
What do I see in my mind when I think about it now, that second plane hitting as I watched it live. Made a shiver run down my spine.0 -
I woke up on 9/11 in my semi parked at the T/A Truckstop at Dallas Pike W.Va. As usual I watched a bit a bit of the morning news prior to pulling out, to get the weather reports. The 1st plane hit just before I turned off the tv. Report was sketchy and I figured just an accident. Before I had gone very far, the 2nd plane hit. Then we knew it was terrorist.
It was pretty scary when fuel prices jumped and reports of the President going underground came in as I traveled westbound. My main concern was in getting home to my family 1K miles away.
Didn't see any of the film footage until later that evening in St.Louis Mo. The film of people jumping made the most impact on me. What a HORRIBLE decision to be forced to make! I'lL NEVER forget 9/11. And I want PAYBACK!0 -
I had just woke up and my mom was crying watching CNN. I remember all the kids around me were carrying on like any other day but I really understood the magnitude of the situation. I just remember the sight of those planes hitting the buildings and the massive explosions. 0
