I paid $1600.00 for my papered Lab, and made it back the first year in breeding fees, once he was old enough.

BR here..not classic...(note to self, log him out.)

Dogs have papers, cats have papers, so what????? The point of that statements was "so who are you trying to impress with papers?...makes no diff to the dog or cat"....and yes I know not all are papered...

It's not really meant to impress anyone. More to inform a serious buyer who knows precisely what they want.

Case in point. I have hip and back problems and needed a dog for upland bird that would work close (35-50 yards)at a steady pace I could comfortably keep up with. After doing a lot of research and speaking with hunters and breeders I settled on the Spinone Italiano.

Pedigree, known as papers, tell more than just blood line. They also indicate awards received by these dogs, everything from Natural Ability scores to Master Hunter titles. The papers which Lenny's breeder gave me show five generations of both pedigree as well as the medical certificates showing his lineage clear of any medical abnormalities. It's comforting to know that with fourteen or so years ahead of us I won't need to worry about something like hip displatia rearing it's ugly head, not that it can't happen but the genetic predisposition isn't there.
