Drive-In Movie
Was in Granbury, Texas last night, and the kiddo and wife and I went to a DRIVE-IN MOVIE!
It has been at least 35 years since I went to one. I can't even remember seeing one from the road in years.
Anyway, it was packed. They showed two kid movies, so the atmosphere was family oriented. We raised the hatch on the SUV and backed toward the screen, pillows, blankets, and a lot of Halloween candy!
One of the things that has changed is the sound system. Now instead of putting that little metal speaker in your window, you just tune in the audio on your car's FM radio!
The other thing that changed was the price. $18 a car.
What a walk down memory lane. Sorry to you youngsters who have never been to one...

The Good ole Passion Pit were great and we would sneak a Keg in on the back seat of a English Ford. All of our friends would come by and have a beer, Didn't last but a couple time since the Manager figured out what we were doing. He had to help push it to get it started when he kicked us out. hehehe 0 -

now it's a bright and shiny "business park" and golf course in what's becoming the middle of town. you would have never guessed it was there. those days are gone forever.
Yes, the Golden Spike, And we had the Q-twin, The Skyview, and The 92 in Council Bluffs. We used to leave Penoy Park and go hop the fence along "the road". Otis XII and Diver Dan Doomie, Ha! Diver Dan married a good friend on mine, he was a total looser. Remember "The Mean Farmer"? LOL!!!

South Louisiana just isn't conducive to drive-ins. I still remember where at least 4 were around town. Summer blows for drive-ins here. The last time I went was in Long Beach, CA back around 87 or so. 0 -
we had one, been there as long as can remember, till the baggy pants moved in, they where taking all the speakers, trashed the place, and even did a armed robbery at the concession stand, last movie a saw there was "blue thunder" 0 -
We still got one here in the Cleveland area. I remember my parents taking us to it as kids, we would make a huge bag of popcorn and take drinks. Get there early and play with the other kids on the playground then watch the pre-movie cartoon when it got dark. We all set up the blankets next to the car with lawn chairs.
Same place now has the radio tuner for speakers, no more playgroud but the snack bar is still hopping. They charge less than the regular theater for snacks. But if you want to bring your own in, you have to buy a $5 out of theater food card for your car.
The price is good, $7 for adults for a first run movie and semi-first-run. Two movies for $7 you cant beat. Kids under 3 free and under 11 are $2.
According to the United Drive In Theater Owners Association (UDITOA) there were 4063 drive-ins in America in 1958. Today there are 383.

We still have one here. I haven't been in a coupla decades, but I'd love to, when the daughter geets old enough to sit still that long.

I take my older nieces and nephew to ours. Or go alone in the summer. Nothing like catching two flicks for the price of one. Plus I always hit the concession stand. The still show the dancing hot dog between movies

the good thing is that there is a per-car fee not a per-person fee, so it dosent matter if I toss 15 people into a commuter van, it is still going to cost the same as 2 people in a miata, not as much fun, but it cost the same[;)]

Mean Farmer, Space Commander Wack, the Halloween Fun Run, I think he was on channel 3 for a while, Zio's Pizza commercials... Otis was great. I heard he's a farmer now.0 -
Back in the eighties, I was dating a college girl who went to school in Winston-Salem.
A coed at an arts school, Yowsuh!
One time I was up there and she told me they had a porno drive in. Did I want to go? She didn't have to ask twice.
The deal was, you tried to copy, in your car, what was going on onscreen.
That was a lot of fun.

I believe the last time I went was in the 70's. Pickemup truck parked tail to the screen. Lawn chairs, a cooler and a hibach grill in the back with us. Grilled hotdogs and brats, drank soda and ate chips and probably saw a fairly crappy movie and enjoyed every minute. 0 -

in the 60's and 70's, we had a nice drive in, now the only thing around is walk in theaters. I hate them 0 -
We had two in town when I was growing up. A group of us would load my pick up on thursdays as it was 5 bucks a car and set out lawn chairs by and in the truck to watch film. Heck we even took pony kegs of beer and had alittle liquid refeshment. The last drive in I went to was in Ft. Collins Colorado and there was this couple next to us that were by the side of there car having sex> Man I miss drive in movies [:D] 0 -
