I stumbled and fell into a buzz saw mounted on a tractor when we were cutting firewood when I was in the 6th grade. Chewed up my left arm and shoulder pretty good but I was mighty lucky. 0 -

I broke my neck in a car accident, a C-2 "Hangman's fracture". I was conscience when they were finally able to reach me (they had to cut through a semi's trailer before they got to my car) and I heard the shock in the voice of my rescuers when they found I was alive.
I had a 80 mile "Lifeflight" and they almost lost me twice on the way.
I had a "near death" experience that changed almost everything I had previously thought and did and I no longer fear my eventual demise.
I do however plan on trying to delay it as long as I can.
I have daughters and hopefully their children to enjoy before I go.0 -
It's hard to say which event was closest or whether I missed stepping on an unseen mine by an inch in the Army. A few overseas experiences gave me nightmares for years.
Later on, I backed into an idling airplane propeller, lost power
on two takeoffs and thwarted a few attempted muggings.
Any of these could have finished me off.

Stupid in college, too drunk, car caught on fire (no I was not driving it), was told I would have died if it were a week earlier b/c my buddy's mom just got a carbon monoxide leak fixed in the cab. Learned my lesson. 0 -
Two of them:
1. Bullets whizzing by my head during several firefights in Vietnam. Never got hit, but I blew up my M-16 during one of them. I learned you cant fire 25 20rd mags on full auto as fast as you can without doing some damage.
2. Responding to a traffic accident on my motor. Lady made left turn in front on me and I hit her. Broke my neck, left femur, left wrist, and blew my lt knee. As I hit her van I remember thinking "This is it".0 -

Felt a slug whiz by my ear while deer hunting. I hit the ground and waited for the second shot.I literaly hugged the ground.
Another time when I was in my 20`s I went in to work at midnight with my crew to strip floors at a monkey wards store. The assistant manager had faild to inform the security company that we were going to be in.As a result,while the elavator door opened into a dark loading dock with myself and several other guys on itlaughing and joking as we went,we were met by every available cop in town.All had guns drawn.One yelled don`t move.I looked at them and saw several that I knew. I thought they recognized me and I moved.I was very lucky.No shots were fired,but they yelled again and I froze.The cops told me how lucky I was as they had a rooky with them that night and he could have shot. I had a long talk with the assistant manager the next day.0 -
Lets put it this way! I am either immortal and will live forever, or I am living on borrowed time!
I have had too many close calls to even begin to list them here!
Last one was 3 1/2 years ago when I was hit by a car (I was on foot) that was doing 65mph! According to the police report it threw me about 700 feet from the point of impact!
That is also the one that gave me about 5lbs of metal to hold my broken body together!
Also last hunting season I did get a shot put in my direction but it did not come all that close (I had some closer durring Desert Storm). The hunter that shot my way saw some movement (it was me moveing wearing a blaze orange vest and hat) and shot without knowing what he was shooting at! Lucky for me he was a terrible shot as it was not very close to me at all!0 -
Accident at work left me dangling 120 ft in the air from a piece of 2" angle iron through my thigh!!! 0 -

No near death experiences that I remember. Been knocked out 9 times,Had a semi try and breed the pickup I was sitting in, it must of thought it needed a run at the pickup as it hit me doing 55-60. Had a 12 guage slug embed in the tree 12" from my head one time. Had a few rifle bullets zing by close. Don't have enough time to type them all. Dave 0 -
I've had a couple. Got into w/a guy at a party one nite and we decided to "take it outside". When we got outside the guy pulled a High Standard Sentinel .22 pistol and took deliberate aim at me. I was standing in the middle of a yard w/no cover to try for whatsoever. Thankfully another party goer reached over the guys shoulder and yanked his arms up just as he fired and the shot went over my head. I then rushed the guy,took the gun away from him, gave it to my wife and beat the crap out of him.
Another time I was working on a construction crew in mountains of Northern Utah putting in the concrete bases for micro-wave communication towers. We were working on a butte that had a classic road spiraled around the base to the top. A vertical wall on one side of the road and drop off cliff on the other.
I was driving a 2 ton Ford flatbed truck, loaded w/concrete forms, pulling a trailer loaded w/tools and lumber. Then on a steep grade the truck lost traction. I was helplessly sliding back downhill on a one lane curving road w/a cliff just outside my driver door. Luckily I managed to jack-knife the trailor into the wall on my right side and stop. But I had to get out of the truck via the passenger side because to step out the drivers door would've been like stepping off a 4 story building.
I was pretty shook up.0 -
I flipped an atv about 4 years ago. Was unconscious for about an hour or so. Wife said I was having convulsions and that it wasn't a pretty sight. 0 -
When in army training bfore. My platoon were inside the dangerzone when the officer wanted to demonstrate the efffects of blowing up an old tank with an antitankmine underneath it.
Yupp he missjudged how big the securityzone should have been.
Then we had some incoming chunks of the tank falling down around us.
It sounded kind of like the sky were on fire when the metaldebrie came flying down.Closest crater to me were around 12 feet away.0 -
While I was supervising (which realy means getting in everyones way) the installation of some machinery on an off shore rig in the Brent Oil Field out in the North Sea I was blind sided squarely in the head as the crane operater swung the load (it was not his fault) and I took a tumble to the deck below, losing three teeth, breaking two fingers, dislocating my right shoulder and tearing the rotator. When I was struck I saw edge of the railing and the sea and thought I was done for but my right arm some how hooked onto the rail which flipped me back and I dropped onto the deck instead of sailing off the rig. If not for that bit of luck I would have flown striaght off and into the North Sea where the current would have tossed me against the piles and killed me before anyone could have fished me out. After two months recovering in Aberdeen my contract was finished, I went home and decided to work on dry land for the duration. That shoulder often needs large doses of vodka or bourbon on cold damp nights [;)]. 0 -
I blew out one of those wonderfull Firestorm "500" tires on the back of my corvette in 1978 at 127 mph! I was watching the speedo at the time to see how fast it would go.
I paniced and hit the brakes with both feet and the car swapped ends, down the freeway backwards at that speed. Car went into a big sliding loop, went off the turnpike extension, took out a bunch of small trees and stopped about three feet from a canal!
I had watched as the steel cord of the tire came up and ripped the remote control mirror out of the door and scratched the side of the car and the windshield before flying off the rim. Had I had the side window down I would not have much of a face today.
Thought I was a dead man, but survived with no injury. This all happened at about 3 am in the morning. Drove the car back up on the turnpike, changed the tire and managed to drive the car home. Filed an accident report and Firestone paid for the damage to the car.
Not really a true NDE but its as close to it as I have come to date.0 -

ripcord came out of its pouch and i couldnt find it.
pulled my reserve and it didnt open...i had to punch it out of its container. got silk at 1000 feet. 5 seconds later and i would have been dead.
as it turned out, the opening broke my back. it was a good trade off.0 -

Time to quit that hobby. Neighbor had one die that way. Reserve chute opened and broke the guy's neck. He floated down dead.0 -
got a running start up an icy hill to go across a street on a motorcycle, by that time there was traffic, looked down and watched as the front bumper of the car passed my back tire, about 10" away
first time (or so) on a 900, going toward a stop sign, slammed on the rear brake only, skidded and nearly dumped it, luckily the oncoming guy did stop and I didn't dump it
driving down the street in the hood, bullet whizzed past my windshield, never knew where it came from. must have been close, if I could hear it while driving down the street
was fixin' to kick the crap out of this one dude, his buddy intervened, almost got into it with him, a month later that guy did blow somebody away for something much more trivial
went to one guy's house, he was twiggin', this other guy with me, I thought he was tough (ex-marine) he was reeeeealy nervous so we didnt' stay there long... as it turns out, the guy had a drawer open from the end table (I didn't see it) with a revolver. my friend saw it, that's why he was so nervous. we talked to his friends later, found out the dude thought we were cops there to bust him and we had no idea how close we were to getting blown away. the guy was whacked.
was going to clean my gun, had a loaded mag & round in the chamber, instead of the magazine coming out it flipped out of my hands and landed on the floor on the hammer spur, with the barrel pointing right between my eyes. if it weren't for inertia firing pins I might not be here today.
one time I was driving my friend's car down the hwy at night, I went to turn on the high beams but that made the lights go out, I was fiddling with that on the floorboard, when they came on, well, there's that bridge! right in front of us. I swerved just in time to rip the side of the car open like a tin can. he was awfully pissed.
been to a few partys where another guest mighta offed me if they could have gotten away with it.
I had a pool table, one guy had a gun, he wanted to bet me my pool table for his gun on a game of pool. I refused to do that bet, though I know I'd win, but I played him anyways, and I spanked him pretty bad. well as it turns out, that guy was known for unloading clips at people he had problems with. and if I'd a bet him, he wouldn't have wanted to hand over the gun I won, and there'd be a problem.
another time, I was at a bar and asked this fat chick for a smoke, she said f.o., well when the bar closed I was getting in my car, she came over and asked me for a smoke, I said f.o.b., but she kept nagging me for a cigarette, I kept saying no, so she got in my car and kept on nagging me for a cigatette! I was like, what the hell is this?!? git out of my car, f/b/! well she started getting really nasty, and the pool table guy (from above) walks over and says "what's going on?" I told him look this f.b. won't get out of my car and she wants a cigarette! he said "just give her one, ok?" so I gave the f.b. a cigarette and she left. well, as it turns out that was his sister. I could have got shot if I didn't just give the damn ..... a cigarette.
I do have friends & relatives that have stories like that that didn't turn out so well. they don't get to write about "nearly", "almost", etc. 'cuz they're dead. we should count ourselves lucky. just lucky, that's all.0 -

There are a bunch of them, but the first one to come to mind was an accidental discharge at a gun store I was working at. One of the guys decided to use a 7.62X51 Galil as a shop gun but forgot to tell the next shift that he did it. Next thing you know a guy asks to see the Galil, it's handed over but no body checked to make sure that the chamber was clear. The first thing this guy did was squeeze the trigger[:0] The gun was pointed at me when he did it and to this day I do not know how I didn't get shot, but I did get a bad powder burn on my arm. 0
