Do you "tip" at a buffet?
I always tip (if the waiter/waitress deserves it) at a restaurant where I'm being waited on---taking my order---serving my food, etc. However, I do not tip at restaurants where buffets are offered and I'm waiting on myself. Do you?

it depends on the situation and the service. If you go to a place where they do nothing or the serice sucks, then no. But if somebody is taking plates and refilling drinks, then a dollar a peice. Tips really piss me off as well. I would rather have the cost built into the food already. 0 -

When I would do machine work for a person that owned a restaurant I would never charge them for the work. I would always get a free "dinner for two" from them and it was always worth it. And when I left I would always leave 30% for the waitress.
At buffets like Golden Corral I would leave 15% tip.
At a Shari's in Lewiston, ID. I left my first 1 cent tip and a a$$ chewing for the manager. Worst service/wrong orders I ever experienced.0 -

Buffet = all you can eat for $1.99. The chinese way of killing us off. Many of the Chinese "super buffets" have turned out to employee illegal Chinese citizens who work for many years here to pay their fees to those that smuggled them here.
Mostly the food sucks in my experience.

I always tip. If the buffet is completely self-serve, I still leave roughly a buck per person at the table - someone's got to clean up after us, right?

Former waitress, so I usually leave a HUGE tip....
I know what kind of crap they will deal with on an average weekend. Your night doesn't end until the last diner has decided to mosey his butt either into the bar or home....
While you may think you are leaving an "adequate tip" ("Friday nite, fish fry, double the tax'ers", as you are referred), that usually doesn't even begin to cover our deficit in minimum wage, let alone child care, and so forth...
Most of us would have LOVED to have been able to afford to eat at a restaurant occasionally, or more than occasionally...0 -
Always, as long as the person does their job. I also walk directly to the person that attended to our table and hand it to them. 0 -

I normally tip $1 or $2 per plate at a buffet. I had dinner at Ryan's this evening. Tipped my server $2 and all she did was refill my water once and bring me some rolls. 0 -
I pay for what I get. If it's good service, they'll get 15-20%. If they're bad, they get maybe 5-10%. If they're terrible, I give them whatever change I have in my pocket. (Usually not much)
I tip Chinese restaurants better; they're service is always better than most other restaurants.0 -
Here's a tip on Golden Corral.
Always try to sit in the front of the restaurant, where you can see the bakery & salad bar. You'll get the best service there as that is the prime area. The times I've had to sit in the rear of the restaurant -- I've been waited on by trainees who don't always get your rolls or drinks quickly. Still leave them a tip, though.0 -
I'm most of the time gonna tip $1/plate at a buffet, If service is great alot more. If they speak English even higher 0 -
Always leave at least two bucks, three if the waiter/clearer is especially attentive. Don't stiff the little guys. 0 -
At a sit down, served meal,-15-20% if the service is good. 10% or less if poor. I usually tip a couple of bucks for the table if at a buffet. More if the service is good or there is more than a couple of us eating.
When I worked LE and got discounts, I would usually give the difference to the waitress.0
