MINI 14 Accuracy!!!
Hello everybody. Im posting this for all you skeptics. I took my MINI 14 out today with my barrel De-resonator, and it's gas system shut off. I shot 1" groups at 100 yrds, this is a great inprovment from 6" at 100 yrds, I think. So all I wanted to say to all you skeptics is, IN YOUR FACE!!! [:D][:p][:p][:D][:p][:D]

gas system off? so its single shot? 0 -
YEP, WORKS GREAT!!! If you can't hit what your shooting at with your first shot, use the next round on yourself. semi-auto is great, if you live in a WARZONE!!! I happen to live in NH, and I can hit what im aiming at with the first shot so I think Im OK. 0 -
I've had more than a few Minis apart and am curious how you turned off the gas.

"spray and pray".

AZEX, if you dissasemble the gas block you'll find a small bushing, its a cylindrical piece of steel with a 2 or 3 millimeter hole bored through it. I took mine out and inserted a new cylindrical piece of steel with no hole, I cut it to the same exact dimensions. this new piece blocks all gas, inturn, shutting off the system entirely.
Watrulookinat, I also fired my friends ar-15 today, its awesome. maybe someday I'll trade in my MINI-14 and get one.0 -
It's semi auto Doug...not fully auto. 0 -

I think I told you that it works...no skeptic here.[;)][8D]0 -
You got DWS, a diesel powered type writer. and next week a machine that takes out the voice box and cuts the hands off annoying people so no one has to hear or read their lame opinions.
ECC, thanks for believing in me.0 -
"spray and pray" is also applicable to semi-autos - as when a cop shoots at a suspect 47 times and hits him once.
I think what you did is really cool. I think I'll try it, although my current Mini shoots 2 MOA, now.
Doug0 -
Cops do that sometimes, most of the time. 2" is good, but 1" is better. very rarely do I "unload" on a target, its fun, but its too expensive for me. Im all about making a shot count, if I go to the range every week I should be able to hit what im aiming at, I think.
By all means try it if you want, just makesure your setup is done properly. the last thing I want is somebody being hurt because they did the job poorly. If you do it right it sould work.0 -
Well hell... a smart Marine would just get a nice 1903A3 and bust his noggin with a real round. THIRTY AUGHT SIX FOREVER.
Interesting way to make a bolt gun out of a semi-auto.0 -

Don't get me wrong, I think a single-shot Mini-14 is pure genius. Most people would just start with a single shot, but it takes some real doing to get a semi-auto to do what a single-shot can do. In fact, I'm so inspired that I'm going to start work on a semi-automatic Ruger #3 in the morning.0 -

But why? Don0 -
A smarter approach would be figuring out a simple, switchable mod to shut the gas off on a mini, easily switchable back (as I'm wondering how long the steel rod is going to stay in the gas piston, or more importantly, how you intend on removing it later) or a completely different gas block with an adjustable gas valve, not just "on" and "off" but adjustable for hotter loads (bigger or full size as is now) or smaller (much smaller for using with suppressors).

30-06 is great, good old Jeff Cooper knows that(God rest his soul), how ever ,its not practical for NH. lots of trees, hills, and houses. making a bolt out a semi-auto, stupid? the military does it for there barret 50 cals sometimes, hence one shot one kill. you people are something else.
AZEX, you can buy an adjustible gas block from Brownells made by accuracy systems inc., if you want to pay $100.00, or if you have some machining skills you can do it your self with a drill press, a set screw, a tap and die set, and an hour of your time. my way is just a quick fix. and the bushing is very easy to remove.0 -
Probably be cheaper and easier to just get a savage bolt action..... 0 -
Picky, picky, picky.
Creativity should not be squelched.

Many folks love the oh-so-familiar layout of the Mini.
Would that Bill Ruger Sr. hadn't stabbed us in the back regarding magazines, I think the newer accurized Minis could compete quite well against the horrible AR with it's crappy gas system.
After listening for 20 years to the Kool-aid drinkers blather on about how "if the AR needed a gas piston, Gene Stoner would've designed it with one" it's hilarious to see everyone and anyone chunk out a ridiculously expensive piston driven "something" to go on an AR lower.

No, the military buys them that way from Barrett. Neither Barrett nor the military converts semi-auto 50's to bolt action, although the Polish Army is considering such possibility as we speak.
I like your "one shot, one kill" idea, though; I'm thinking about suggesting your gas system idea to make single-shot M16's. Less jamming, less ammo to carry, and no unsightly protuberance hanging from the mag well.
Can I get an OOH-RAH? How about a pump AK47?0 -
Im not picky, I just know what I like, and I like accurate guns. Like I said before and I'll say it again, I did these mods for $21.00. I would love to see some one do it for less. accuracy systems inc. is asking nearly $800.00 for a guaranteed 1.040" grouping at 100 yrds. if you dont believe me heres the link. copy, paste, and see for yourself.[;)]

why not, remington makes pump .223s.
DWS, for every stupid little thing you say I will have something in return. I have read quite a few threads and never once have I ever seen you reply something useful.0 -

And for that I am stupid?
Just curious: Are you even capable of photosynthesis?0 -

NO, for that you are W-R-O-N-G, WRONG!!!! You can shut off the gas system on any Yugoslavian made SKS as well. sorry buddy better luck next time.
E.M.A. figure it out.0 -

And this has anything remotely to do with your erroneous comment that the military converts semi-auto Barretts to bolt action...how?
Get a grip, sonny.0 -
congrats DWS, you won, Im just gonna give up because im so sad you ruined another good thread.
I'd like to appologize for DWS, as I am sure many of you have done in the past many times before. He knows not what he does, could it be a superiority complex? or maybe just a brain injury? we may never know.
you know whats a good movie "shooter" its got mark whalberg in it, if you have a chance watch it. good movie.0 -

Is that a "It doesn't"?0 -
Read something the other day about merely bolting a bi-pod on the barrel of that turkey..helping the accuracy some.
Don't see how it could hurt 'absymal'..I have had one of the original 180's for about 30-odd years...can't hit a bull in the a ss with it.
Picked up one a few years ago and was pleasently surprised to see it shoot 2" at 100...0
