The best Official Statement on Torture for atleast America is....NO WE WON'T.

Nobody knows what the CIA does...especially overseas.

WHY MUST OUR EXECUTIVE BRANCH DECLARE THEY ARE TORTURING PEOPLE?

People that no country will claim as their combatants on a battle field deserve no publicity.

As probably the only person on this forum who HAS BEEN WATERBOARDED, now hear this; It is torture. I would actually enjoy waterboarding the individuals on here who have voice support for torturing prisoners. Especially the "god fearing" ones. Only two creatures on this planet derive pleasure from torturing others, cats and men. Usually, both are pussies. [:(!]
Well, now we know what your threshold is to water-board somebody. I'm one of the "God fearing ones". If that makes me a pussie, then MEOW.

We aren't talking about prisoners of war here. I'm not sure what the classification of these murdering scum should be, but some of them can't even be tied to a country, much less a military organization. I guess they are criminals, but not in the classical sense. You could call what they do "war crimes", but most of them aren't citizens or residents of countries we are at war with.

If it were up to me we wouldn't bother water-boarding any of them. I'd rather just drown the sons-of-bitches.

Torture has never been and never should be the policy of the United States. However, I don't have any problem at all doing anything and everything necessary to extract information from these murdering scum which might save one American from death or suffering.

Oh yeah. OK, water-boarding is torture. Contrary to popular belief, torture works. If it don't work, you ain't doing it right.

SERE school, USN, Warner Springs, CA in 1980. Had to go through this training due to my job. It consisted of wildnerness survival school for a few days and then 36 intense hours of the POW compound. Stripped, starved, stuck in a 3x4x3 box, beaten, not allowed to sleep, sprayed with cold firehoses, interogated, and for a select few who would not buckle, waterboarded.
No one, and I mean NO ONE who has had it done to them ever wants it again. That's why no one takes me up on the offer to do it to them.

I heard that Khalid sheik Mohammed, who claims he personally cut Daniel Pearl's head off while he was still alive, said when he was water-boarded he saw a vision of Allah who told him he should cooperate for the benefit of his fellow jihadist. After the water-boarding he answered all questions, evidently truthfully.

This is a link to a water-boarding demonstration.

DWS, is DCON still torturing your nipples?

After the demonstration, the gentleman who was waterboarded
got up and carried on a reasonably good conversation. Those who were beheaded are....dead and can't giver their opinion. Given a choice as to which of the two is more humane, I'd have to say waterboarding.

Let me ask those that are against "torture". If you knew YOU and YOUR loved ones were targeted to die today and the person who had the information that would allow you to prevent it from happening
was in your control what methods would you approve of to to get the information from this individual to save YOU and YOUR love ones.
The clock is ticking and it is inevitable you will die unless....
Would you consult the constitution? What are your limits? YOUR LIFE!

I think part of the confusion and disagreement is some people (maybe most) say that shouldn't be done to a human being or animal. I would have to agree with that. However, I don't see that as a problem. [;)]

If your police department knew your 12 year old daughter had information that would save the life of your neighbor and his family, and she was in their control, would your answer be the same?

There is no confusion on this issue to me. If you adopt Nazi tactics with respect to torture of prisoners, you have become a de facto Nazi. For the Government to endorse these procedures is akin to the drum beaters and book burners of Nuremburg.

Humbug! You're dealing with cutthroats and indiscriminate murderers,
not captive soldiers who qualify to be accorded Geneva Convention
    protection.
By the way there were many instances where US forces could not take prisoners and given the treatment the JAPs accorded Western forces and captive civilian prisoners, often would not take prisoners.
These were soldiers. What we are dealing with today are not soldiers.
For a little realistic perspective on who we are dealing with, Google Beheading and turn up the sound while you watch and hear Muslims behead live captives. I doubt water boarded terrorists' complaints match the shrieking of the beheading victims.
I generally agree with your postings and hope you revise your thinking
    on this issue.

do what has to be done to stop them...they cut peoples heads off and strap bombs to themselves and crash planes full of innocent people in building that have innocent people in them, so just treat them like they would treat you given the chance, and to hell with the "DO GOODERS" WHO SAY OTHERWISE!

This is one of those topics that will always divide people and I can see the reasoning on both sides of the argument.

Do I want myself or someone I care about being tortured-no way in hell.

Would I do it to save my child or family member-you bet, in a heartbeat.

I think this should be reserved for only the most extreme cases and even then, with some kind of citizen (non-military/non-government) oversight to ensure it is not used excessively. If allowed, it can come back to bite you in the rear, at some point in the future.

This is truly a no-win situation.
