capitol punishment survey
Since most daytime TV sucks, I'm pretty much stuck on AMC and the History Channel.
Program on the History Channel about capital punishment got me wondering about what is the most efficient, both in human suffering and economically, method of execution?
Guillotine? Gas chamber? Firing squad? Lethal injection?
Any comments? Experiences? Please share....

Economically, it has to be the firing squad.

Probably the guillotine since it effectively ends life immediately.
Of course, it is rather messy.0 -
Just let 'em sit in old Sparky for a minute or two. 0 -
Anyone that's convicted of or apprehended during any kind of rape/torture/murder/kidnapping/theft/etc. should be shot in the head instantly...either at the moment of conviction, or at the moment of apprehension. 0 -
Lethal injection,.......to avoid complaints from "pantywaists", and attorneys trying to use the "cruel and unusual punishment" arguement.
They had a bit of a problem here in Florida years ago, when "ole sparky" had to be hit several times, and the guy was pretty much twitching, and "smoking".
I don't have an issue with it, but I will once again refer to the above.[;)]0 -
No method is perfect...but considering all variables, including human and mechanical failure... 0 -
Everything you guys said is inhumane.
Shooting - people survive bullet wounds all the time, even head shots.
Chair - Ewww... crispy and takes time, sometimes multiple bouts of shock. Not cool.
Injections - sometimes the recipient isn't unconscious after the first dose, before the following doses hit, causing much discomfort and pain.
Guillotine - The human brain contains enough dissolved oxygen in the blood and tissues to remain alive for up to 2 minutes after severance from the body. That absolutely does not constitute an "instant death."
Here's my suggestion: A 100% guaranteed way to prevent any detectable sensation of pain or chance of survival, along with providing a cheap method of execution, is to strap a few sticks of dynamite to someone and blow them up. No body = no brain = no pain
That's what I call humane. If you disagree, then please tell me how someone could possibly find that method of execution to cause undue suffering by the deceased if their entire body is instantly vaporized. Com'on, let's hear it.0 -

Chinese f'iring squad' - one shooter - one 9mm in the back of the skull -
9? - the family is charged for the bullet (cartridge) - quick - no muss -
no fuss - nobody left on base (ever).

I personaly do not care if it is humane or not!
These people who commited the crimes did not care if thier victoms suffered or not!
I say the more pain and torture involved in thier execution the better!0 -
I that case a slow power drill?
[:o)]0 -
Well cost and efficiency should be primary considerations. If the condemned takes a few extra moments to die then so be it. 0 -
Hang em in public on the County Court House Square. 0 -

Not my point, exactly, but I apppreciate your sentiment!0 -

We are not putting a favorite pet to sleep here. We are executing the most hanious of people. Only the truely evil are set to such punishment. The error of their ways should be made public in the form of hanging. It not only serves to finish their punishment, but also serves to discourage others from following the same path. 0 -

Same- I would like to put a little twist on it, Let the victims family/friends decide on the method.0 -

I am also for hanging but I don't know if the public square would be the right place.
Maybe in a secure theater where young kids like under 13 could not be able to see it.0 -
I think it would be nice if the family could choose the way the offender was dispatched. 0 -
I'm like GRD. Who cares how they get it as long as they do. They certainly don't care about their victims whether they kill them mercifully or not. I prefer murders and baby rapers get it slow and painfully. 0 -
I used to be against the death penalty but not for any religous or ethical reasons. I thought it would be a better punishment to spend the rest of their miserable life suffering in a prison environment. I changed my mind after my wife's best friend was stabbed to death by her estranged husband. He was sentenced to 65 years (which was not nearly enough). After 2 years in prison he committed suicide. It was such a relief knowing that he will never walk the streets again and I will never have to breathe the same air as him. He should have gotten a bullet in the back of the head and I would have been more than glad to have done it. So, to hell with inhumane punishment. The punishment should be the same as the crime. You stab, you get stabbed, ect. 0 -
I would like to see all Drug convictee's stoned to death.. 0 -
For overall benefit to society, I would choose the Guillotine. 0 -
One problem with most methods involves people who deserve more than one death. If you recieve two or more death sentences there should be another method. In such cases there should be a way to revive the person so they can be fully punished. Since they can never be positive they will be revived each time will be for real.
I would suggest drowning for that purpose.0 -
rapers and molestor shot have splintered 2 x 4 shove where the sun don't shine. And the hung 0 -

I knew that it that was not what you were going for, but that is how I truely feel about the matter.
I fully support the death penalty and feel that these people should only get 1 appeal after thier conviction and if the sentance is held up then they should be put to death within 30 days!
And I want it to be as much suffering as possible to make them truely think about what they have done to the lives of others because of thier actions!
That may sound harsh, but the crime they commited was even harsher!0 -

Agreed. That could be veryyyy interesting, and serve as the best deterant ever.[:)][8D]0 -
This is what I think about all this.
1. Warm room.
2. Block of ice. (Convicted person stands on this)
3. Piano wire around the neck.
Now if the convicted wants to go fast he can step off the ice, if not he can just stand still and wait.0 -
As someone who has had a family member (uncle) murdered...
Heck, I still don't know if I'm in favor of the death penalty. The guy shot my uncle in the back of the head (my uncle was a cab driver).
Now, I can completely understand (and, for that matter, condone) killing in self defense...but I've asked myself many a time--if the guy who killed my uncle was in front of me--tied to a chair--would I be willing to pull the trigger.
Then I ask myself--what is the difference between him and me at this point. I would be cold-bloodedly killing a defenseless person--the same thing he did.
At the same time--what he did was monstrous. Evil. We shoot mad dogs, don't we?
There ain't no easy answer, folks.
Overall--I lean towards that, yes, the State is justified in executing someone--it protects the State by preventing that individual from ever killing again.
But I don't feel good about it.
So I guess the means doesn't really matter--I mean, really, if we're gonna cold-bloodedly execute someone, does the "inhumanity" of the method even come into play?0
