**UPDATE** I?ve got me a real WHO-DONE-IT MYSTERY
Today started out like any ordinary Sunday. I got out of bed, did my morning routine, put on my Sunday-go-to-meeting togs, asked the wife a few times if she was ready yet, and went out to the car.
It was the first time I opened the car since Wednesday night. The driver's seat, seat back and console were covered with caked dried mud. Best I can tell nothing is missing, not even messed with. Just mud all over everything.
The car was locked when I went into the house Wednesday night. There was no sign of forced entry. I don't really know if it was locked this morning because I unlocked it with the little remote doodad from the back door.
I've lived here for about eighteen years. Never had a real problem with anybody messing around the place. There was one time somebody cut a screen at the bedroom, but the screen wasn't disturbed other than the little cut. My guess is whoever did that was greeted by a one hundred pound Labrador Retriever and reconsidered coming in. Another time somebody opened a basement window. That gave them access to a sheet of _ inch plywood held in place with sixteen number twelve 3? inch screws. My guess is whoever did that decided it wasn't worth the trouble. Two attempts in eighteen years ain't too bad these days.
The wife says she figures I must have made somebody mad and this was their revenge. I'm thinking the only people I've really pissed off in the last eighteen years have all been GunBroker people, so I don't think that was it. I think if it was revenge for something, it would have been worse than mud on everything in my car. Yep, it's mud. I can tell the difference.
There's no real damage, but for some reason it really pisses me off.

You're lucky it's just mud![}:)]
... a real revenge-getter would
probably go up a chapter in the
Black Book of Taking Revenge.
... after sitting ion the sun for a
few days it'd be a real stinker of
a problem[:0]0 -
I have me one of those lil mysteries too...Found my shoes by the front door this morning all wet and muddy and and a empty bottle of JD in each one and tha ass of my pants have teeth marks in them.....[:D][:D][:D][:D] 0 -

Probably kids.
Yep, likely kids with nuthin' better to do.0 -
It sounds like my three kids have been to see you. If so....I am so very sorry. I reallllly try to keep up with them and you would THINK that the distance alone would make this impossible (but they are "gifted" in these things...I have come to realize.) I will re-think the security camera idea I had talked myself out of again....just to know FOR CERTAIN they didn't do whatever will be next.
Again, I am sorry.0 -
Since the car was locked, how did anyone get inside? 0 -
Most likely one of those NRA hating gun brokers dudes! 0 -

That's the mystery. I would have thought if it was kids they would have left signs of forced entry. Broken window or something.
I knew a guy once who would lick the palms of his hands and pull a window down, but all my windows were up. I don't know if it was still locked.0 -
Maybe the drivers window was cracked just a bit and the last wind/rain storm dusted the car from that side. Don 0 -
Maybe they used that Tennis Ball trick to unlock it. 0 -
It was Fred and his partner in crime, George. 0 -

I don't think I've heard of that one. I guess that's one of the hazards of being a "law abiding" citizen.0 -

Check this out, and notice the denting around the door lock.

There were half a dozen threads on it. I'll see if I can find one for you.0 -

By George, I think you have solved the mystery. Now it's just a WHO-DONE-IT. Thanks.0 -
Now I think it was a kid. 0 -
it was Anna kournikova 0 -
somebody didn't want to go to the "meeting"[:p] 0 -
Oh, I went. I took the truck. [:)] 0 -
it could have been opened with a slim jim (not the beef sticks) but for some time now, cars have sheet metal ledges inside the door to foil that, or the lock linkage is simply designed to be resistant to that -but it still can be done. look for scratches.
since you can open it with a remote, someone could have used a "code grabber"- waiting nearby when you used your remote to unlock the door at the store, at work, or neighborhood brats by your driveway- when they have the code your remote sent, they can use the gizmo to send the same code and unlock your doors wherever and whenever they want.
was the mud smeared on or glopped on? if it was smeared, you can tell if it was hands or feet, so you might have fingerprints, size of hands, shoeprints, type of shoes, and that doesn't sound as much like vandalism. if it was glopped on, sounds more like vandalism.
since nothing was stolen or broken and it happened in your driveway, I'd guess it was a stupid prank pulled by neighborhood juveniles (brats) trying out their new gizmo. I'd change your code if possible, if that's what happened there's nothing stopping them from getting in your car again.0 -
It turns out some stuff was stolen, but nothing to get excited about. I had to go to Halifax this afternoon to get some help with my amended tax return (another rant). On the way up there I reached for my BIC. It wasn't there, so I opened the console to get one of my BIC backups. All three of them were gone, so I looked to see how many cigarettes were in there. Four packs were missing, but they left me one unopened pack. I thought what they didn't take was strange, but they left a full carton of cigarettes in the web pocket behind the seat, and evidently didn't touch my S&W 66. I figure they didn't even look in the back.
Now I keep my car S&W 66 and my truck S&W 66 in the basement and take them out when I'm leaving the house.
When I got home from Halifax my neighbor from across the road and up the road a ways was driving by and pulled into my driveway. He said "You better keep an eye on your stuff down here." I told him yeah I know, I had some unauthorized visitors sometime between Wednesday night and Sunday morning. He told me it was Friday night. The woman who owns the house across the road and down the road a mile or so came down from Richmond Friday to check on her house and they got into her car, caked everything with river mud, and stole a bunch of her stuff. Then they went to his place and stole his truck. He had a 1979 Chevrolet pickup.
He said the deputy told him they have at least one good finger print left in the mud in the woman's car. Her car is ruined. The deputy said there was about a 50/50 chance they will have them on file. They have two groups of suspects persons of interest. Somebody saw three Mexicans walking in this direction from the river a little while before the burglaries and truck theft. They weren't dressed for fishing, they looked more like "gangstas".
Two black males, also more gangsta looking than fisherman looking were spotted coming in this direction from the river. I don't know if it was the same person who saw both groups.
All things considered, I got away pretty lucky. There was some stuff out there I would have hated to lose, and they didn't destroy my car or steal my truck. I figure either the wife or I interrupted them by taking the dog out. If that is the case, I've got me one fine watchdog. If she alerted on anything Friday night, I didn't notice it.0 -
Glad you got it figured out.
People who commit car robberies deserve, at the least, load of rock salt across their backs.0 -
I know how they got into your locked rig.
They reached through the open window.
Old Polish...Ooops, ethnic joke.

Does it look like they popped the lock with a tennis ball?0 -
Soounds too much like kids. A thief would taken the other stuff and wouldn't have vandalized it. Rogues. 0 -

Can't really tell by looking. It's an '05 Malibu. The door lock looks like it was designed to be opened with a tennis ball. I suspect that's what happened.0
