This puzzles me. Why would anyone pack around (I suppose) many pounds of mud just to spread around in peoples cars. This just does not make much sense to me. Jamesk, this still needs further investigation!! Tom

I hate people who steal....we work, strive to have something THEN they come along and help themselves. The punishment isn't nearly as horrible as it SHOULD be!

Tom, I'm not sure the mud was part of the plan. When you go down to the river, you just naturally get muddy. My guess is they hit the car across the road first and had more time over there so her car got more mud than mine did. The fingerprint in the mud probably wasn't part of the plan either. If I had known about the woman's car and Billy's truck getting stolen, I would have let the sheriff check my car for prints before I cleaned it up. I figured what they did at my place was so minor, there was no point in calling the sheriff. It looks to me like they weren't going for neatness points.

That is a dangerous line of work around here though. Some of these people will shoot you and their cousin, the Medical Examiner, will rule it "death by natural causes".

James, How much mud are we talking about?? Just smudges or pounds of the stuff? Why did you not let sheriff take charge and look for prints to start with? Just a few smears of mud or a car full of mud is just not normal. Well, I have never heard of it before. You could have a new serial killer in the makings. Sure would hate to hear of you getting found coated in mud and stuffed in trunk of car!!

I would compare the amount of mud in my car to what I would have if I let my wife's nephew wallow around in the hog lot, then wallow around in my car. Most of it cleaned up pretty good. There is a bit of a stain on the driver's seat which I think will come out with some kind of cleaning fluid and a vacuum. The woman across the road got the bulk of the mud, I'm assuming because they went there first. Billy said her car was ruined.

I didn't call the sheriff because I didn't know about the woman across the road or Billy's truck until today. No point in calling them now because I cleaned it up yesterday. Taken by itself, what happened at my place would be ignored anyway. Years ago "grand theft auto" was a fairly serious crime. Today the sheriff considers it a nuisance crime. Something like what happened to me; they'll take a report, but that's the end of it.

If they are local there is a fair chance the sheriff will get them. If he does, I think I'll go to the trial to see what they look like. I never suspected we were dealing with "normal" people here.

yep... tell the sherif. they will be investigating the other stuff, telling them what you know may help get them caught. if they're interested, that is.

Billy got his truck back today. They found it parked in Yanceyville. I don't have any news about the condition of the truck or the status the folks who took it. Billy told me yesterday he had just filled up the gas tank and he figured the gas was worth more than the truck.

I never thought Billy would see that truck again. Maybe there really is a chance they'll catch these gangsta wannabes. Then again, even if they do, they'll probably have to pick up trash on the highway for a whole week.

Come on James. The next time you bring those three girls back from that mud wrestling bar in your car you'll have to come up with a much better explaination to tell your wife!

I saw Billy at Church this morning. He said it cost him $155.00 to get his truck back. They didn't take anything or tear anything up. I guess he was lucky on that part. It looks like they just drove it until it ran out of gas and left if where it stopped.

Billy said he had a gas can in the bed with two and a half gallons of gas in it (still there when he got it back), but when the deputies found it, rather than use that gas and drive it in, they called a tow truck and had it hauled to storage. He had to pay the bill to get his truck back.

I told Billy if they ever catch them to let me know so I can go to the trial and see what they look like. He said they won't tell him if they ever get caught. He said they told him they usually don't catch them, but when they do, sometimes they are prosecuted, sometimes not. Either way, they don't want "victims" taking the law into their own hands, so they never notify the "victim".

I guess the mystery is as solved as it's ever going to be.

    Zulu-

My remark was kind of an inside joke, for those that work in LE.

Whenever you get to a fight or crime scene and start to ask people questions, if they think they will be called to testify, they usually respond that way.

And no, I wasn't in all night but sometimes my kids would beg to differ. I tell them you can't rush mother nature.
