We can smell it here in central Alabama, about a 6 hour drive to where the fires are. 0 -
I'm *in* Florida.
We're screwed. Please send 3 or 4 hurricanes with 10" or so of rain each.

Im in Florida near tampa, a couple days ago my whole neighbor hood was covered i smoke, made it kind of hazy around all day. -dave- 0 -
here in central florida [clermont] near disney, we have had heavy to light smoke for a couple of weeks.the smell is often a bit too much.and those with allergies or breathing problems were hurting. but yesterday and today it is clear and smell free. guess the wind has shifted a bit. we are really in a bad way for the need of rain. many of our ponds are drying up. bestto all, bob 0 -
Miami area here.
Today, Easterly winds...no smoke. And we had some much needed rain last night and today as well.
You may also be "smelling" Georgia...they're on fire as well.0 -

If I was Fred Phelps, I'd suggest that God hates fags and Florida has fags and therefore Florida should burn.
However, I'd like to think I'm at least a better person than Phelps.0 -
We people in Florida will remember what you have said when its your state burning, being flooded, sucked up, or blown away....[}:)][}:)] 0 -

So what? Every place else has gays, too. It is only the obnoxious ones that bother me, and, for that matter, it isn't because they're gay -- rather because they're obnoxious.
I don't wish any ill will upon Florida. My grandma still lives there. I was merely commenting on a previous comment by allen.0 -
Some here are just plain ignorant,.......like society in general! I live in Florida, and don't like seeing fires everywhere, nor would I wish them on others.
I posted a thread about a rant of mine, about folks throwing cigarette butts out the window here several days ago,...........got few responses, except in favor of the "ashtray" was for storing loose change. That wonderful comment came from Spider,.....whatever.
What it comes down to, is most don't give a "rats butt" about anything, until it affects them! Sorry to say, but true.0 -
GOD help ya in Fla. and Georgia too. Hope it rains there soon. 0 -
I give as many rats' butts as I can get ahold of - about anything.

Thanks Doug,...........I guess! 0 -
Thank You, Sav99, for the good wishes for both states![;)] 0 -
"Florida is cursed by God."--AG
I grew up in Georgia. Most the people I knew, growing up, spoke of Florida like it was the Promised Land.
I have been down there about six times. I didn't like the sand and the bright sunlight of the beach. I didn't like the heat.
In the sixties Disney built his wonderland. I have never been there, wouldn't go if you paid me. Standing around in long lines with a million tourists, in order to have a fake adventure, not my style. I have sought out genuine adventure, such as flying hang gliders and canoe camping in the Canadian wilderness, and riding freight trains.
I went to Florida twice with my college soccer team, one time we lost both games, one time we won one and lost one. In the first trip I got huge strawberries on my butt, about 7 inches wide from making slide tackles. What a miserable 11 hour ride back to Georgia with those sores on my butt.
Second trip, I broke my ankle. Those were two miserable soccer trips.
I began to get the idea that God didn't like me to go to Florida, and that he didn't like Florida much, either.
The last time I went was 1990. My best friend and his wife invited my girlfriend and me to go to St. George Island for Memorial Day.
Got sunburned as hell, and the ac in the house we rented was broken, and we couldn't get hold of the landlord because it was a holiday. It was 98 degrees, as usual in Florida, God, it was miserable sweating in that bed with that sunburn.
My best friend went nuts on me that weekend, to make matters worse, and was behaving in a rude manner, so my girlfriend and I left two days early on a four day weekend. I haven't spoken to my ex best friend since, though I have tried to contact him. What a weekend from hell. Ah, was it a blessed thing, when we drove back early, to go to my log cabin on Lake Sinclair, Georgia, and sit on the shady porch, and be cool again.
I decided that Florida was cursed by God and I would never go back.
My girlfriend has friends with a very nice B&B in Clearwater, we can go there any time, free room and bar. I told her, "Go ahead, have fun, send me a post card with a palm tree on it." She can't figure out why, in ten years, I have refused to go.
Now I have moved to the blessed mountains of North Carolina. It is cool up here. We don't get hurricanes, or if we do, the winds are doing 40, not 140. Two of my four neighbors up here on this mountain have moved up here in the past three years from south Florida. They both detest Florida. We have four high end rental houses, and 8 out of 10 applicants to rent are fleeing here from Florida. Invariably they speak of how much they detest Florida. Among other problems, home insurance rates gone up as much as a thousand percent, making home insurance difficult and almost impossible to get.
Y'all who love Florida, and want to live there, God bless you, I hope you are happy.
I am not wishing forest fires or hurricanes on you. I hope the rain falls soon and knocks out this fire in Florida and in my home state Georgia as well.
But, it never surprises me when bad things happen in that state.0 -
Allen,
I had the misfortune of spending 17 years in Miami. One of the more happy days of my life was when I packed up my VW with everything I owned and left the state.
I've been back only twice: once for my brother's wedding and once because my wife really really really really wanted to see Florida.
Looks like after next month, I'll never have to set foot there again -- my grandmother is moving out this way in June.0 -
For allen and spaniel...
Was there anything about this state you enjoyed?0 -
My dad moved to the Tampa area a couple years ago. He hates it and is leaving the state as soon as he retires (imagine that, a retiree moving out of Florida instead of in)! He says its not the same state anymore (he was born and raised on the east coast of Florida). Way too many people, too much traffic, awful weather in the summer, outrageous housing insurance (~ $3000 a year compared to several hundred here in ohio), hurricanes obviously, and overcrowded public schools. The only reason he moved there was because of his job, and I get the impression that he's regretting it a lot. 0 -
"Was there anything about this state you enjoyed?"
Yes we played one game at a college in central Florida which had been designed by Frank Lloyd Wright. Damn I can't remember the name of the school, but this was in 1970 so I get a pass.
Anyway, a couple of my soccer buddies and I hooked up with three coeds and they showed us around the school that night. There were sidewalks that connected all the buildings, of course. But, what was unusual was these sidewalks all had concrete roofs. These coeds showed us that the sidewalk roofs were in fact a series of sidewalks, and you could go around the whole campus on these roofs. So we were up there until about one in the morning, running around the campus twelve feet in the air, smoking something and having fun with these girls.
We realized that Wright had deliberately designed the sidewalk roofs in this manner. The girls told us that the administration prohibited students from going up there, so you had to sneak up there at night.
I also had fun fishing on my friend's sailboat off of St George Island, on the first day before I got sunburned.0 -

Duh,............gee!
There is quite a difference from living in Miami, and most other parts of the state. Can you say,...........detach Miami from the state! I would not ever go down there again, myself! It should be hacked off, and given to all of the illegals, just like Los Angeles, and many other places should be.
There are still nice places in Florida,.............and for "Y'all" in the Carolina's,........get ready for the invasion!!!!!!!!
We have been invaded by "Northerners" for decades, and your time is a comin'! Just this time, it is folks from here looking to get away. Nothing is Utopia,..................for long.[;)]0 -
There is so much here to enjoy, but it seems you are one that "has to be entertained"...
Go for a walk...the wildlife is out of this world, the fishing, the flowers....
When I go somewhere I dont ask to be entertained...I go out and I see, I do, and I love...
Every state has its beauty...Learn how to enjoy it..
I was once told I am like a child when I see something or do something new, I hope I never lose it, but it sounds like some of you have...0 -
CLASSIC HERE: The best place to live is the one place you just left. I hear it from the Yankees everyday, "Well back North it was", and who gives a rats azz how it was back north. ya dont like it here , the interstate runs both directions..

> this way back north..See ya..[:0]0 -
God bless you, Black Roses, and I hope you enjoy your life in Florida. 0
