And we wonder why respect for police officers is deteriorating. I saw the tape on the news. The LEO is a total jack$$$. This POS needs to be retired.
"A Memphis Police Commander, the fourth in the chain of command, is under investigation for police intimidation. It all started over a table at a pancake restaurant.
Jonathan Simpson and his friends went to eat at a local restaurant last week. As they were about to sit down, they were told to move; not by the waitress but by Inspector Don Drewry of the Memphis Police Department.
In exclusive surveillance video obtained by Action News 5, Jonathan Simpson and his friends walked into the Pancake Shop on Summer Avenue.
"Ma'am do you mind if we sit here," said Simpson. The waitress nods yes. But, Inspector Don Drewry came in behind them.
"This is a police table. You have to leave," Drewry was heard saying.

Redbook???? Now, that's an authority. Redbook didn't publish ANYTHING. Some author of some article in a particular issue published some statistics. How about naming the article, author, and issue?
37%?????? No way I am buying that. Police officers probably abuse their spouses at about the same per capita rate as doctors, garbage collectors, school teachers, and cab drivers. Domestic abuse occurs at all levels of our society.
If that 37% figure is accurate, which it isn't, it means that about 19 of my co-workers are abusers. That simply isn't so.
You can be a cop-hater if you want, but if you post a ridiculous statistic, you can expect to be challenged to back it up.
The officer in this story is a turd. He also is an ADMINISTRATOR, not a real cop. He drives a desk and takes two-hour lunches.0 -

My observation also. A Commander in many cases is the same as an Ass H*$#. Most have lost contact with what being an LEO is all about. They are desk jockies who think their stuff doesn't stink.

There's good and bad to be said for everyone and, in this case, this one officer can be said to be bad.
But just as one guy going on rampage with a gun in a school does not make all male gun owners evil, neither does this guy indicate that ALL police officers are swaggering petty tyrants.
Cops put themselves in as much danger as our men and women in the military do and they do so in peacetime and wartime and with a whole hell of a lot more hostility from the home front, to boot.0 -

But this power trip had two kids held for 2 hours against their will. That is called kidnap. It also has a hint of embarrassment to the two for being handcuffed and booked. But for someone to say that he should get 2 weeks suspension, means that it was OK. Don0 -

I believe it would be deemed "FALSE IMPRISONMENT" If a "civilian" did it in their own home. (hold somone against their will) Wich, if i'm not mistaken, is a "class 2/3" FELONY.(unless it's a police force that does it)Any police agency can take ANYONE in for 72 hrs, without any "charge"Correct me if i'm wrong Dave.Usually that's only done on a STRONG suspision of someone actually being a "perp", so they can dig-up some proof, and not loose the guy across St. lines, or fleeing the country...

Did the customer have some kind of syrup on his pancakes that was suspicious? Maybe cherry flavored that looked like blood? Was there a previous fight. A domestic carry over to Denny's. Maybe a grand slam breakfast. Somebody got slapped? Cherry syrup that wasn't cherry syrup. Oh my... 0 -
I applaud the officer for showing that ungrateful youth who's boss. Damn kids these days, have no respect for vet'rins or law enforcement. I think they should all be locked up for 12 hours and searched for drugs. Then drafted into the military. Would straighten those punks out and put the fear of god in 'em.

Perhaps you can explain why the Lautenberg ammendment (prohibiting firearm purchase/possestion etc by those that have abused their spouses) contains a exception for LEO's, if the percentage is as small as you believe it is? IIRC the exception was put in because of the police (nationwide" would have LOST a sugnificant percentage of their force.0 -

I challenge your statement about the Lautenberg amendment. A LEO who is convicted of just a misdemeanor offence of domestic violence will lose his job under Lautenberg. A plumber, carpenter, electrician, or truck driver won't lose their jobs, but if a LEO can't own a firearm he is out of a job.
This is as David previous stated, the Police "administrator" over reacted. He didn't kidnap anyone, but he did make a bad arrest under conditions whereby he abused his position. I bet he didn't even make the arrest. It looks like he had junior officers doing all the work for him. They will end up being the best witnesses for the complainant. This administrator needs to think about taking an extended vacation, and step down as an active LEO.

I'd rather retain my right to bear arms than my job. I wouldn't get the choice.
IMNSHO, abuse of executive power is the most immediate threat to individual freedom. Thank God for balances. I think abusing executive power is as bad as rape. He crossed a line that is plain & clear. He deserves whatever comes to him, and probably more.

Memphis police can really be punks. They rank right there with new orleans.
