I only buy GE from Lowes. They run forever and Lowes has great service.

What difference does it make that is was purchased at Home depot?
Apparently Maytag got tired of their repairman whining about the lack of work in their commercials.

Maytag sold out to Whirlpool about 60 days ago.
We cant get any Maytag parts either.
As they have changed their distribution system, and have dropped all of the old Maytag parts distributors.

    Aint that nice of them.

When our old Whirlpool quit, we decided to purchase another Whirlpool from Lowes. First one lasted 28 days and the gearbox leaked oil all over the floor. It went back for another Whirlpool. Second Whirlpool locked up and wouldn't work. It went back to Lowes. I was very hestitant to buy an upgrade Whirlpool but did . Got the very best one they had. It ran 49 days and then , you guessed it, quit. Oil city on the floor again. I was really pissed beyond pissed this time. I loaded the thing up and took it back to the store. 3 Whirlpools and your out.... Got a Maytag and had NO problems for 3 years. Just my luck now they sold to Whirlpool.

I have been a service man for quite a few years and i can tell you that maytags right now are nothing but a piece of junk. Now that whirlpool has owned the company for over a year they are starting to put some quality back into the maytag product. They are trying to get the quality back up to what it used to be before maytag made the decision to build them CHEAP. It will probally be another year before maytag products are all whirlpool built. Then maytag will be a good product to buy.

As far as your service problems you are haveing, It realy serves you right. Most dealers and service men like me have anough work as it is keeping care of thier own loyal customers that they don't have time to bother with cheap skate dumb azzes who only think about where they can get the best price and don't even give the local family bussinesses a chance.

With almost all your family bussinesses you might end up having to pay a little bit more, But you can rest assures that someone will be there in your time of need with good quality service. That is something that you will never get with a big chain store. All they care about is making a sale. After they get you to take thier product out the door, your on your own.

I can personely speak for all the local owned family bussinesses when i say that we have no interest in keeping the big chain stores alive by doing all thier service for them, Only to have customers continue to buy from the big chain stores.

Have a Kenmore refrige that sucks and a whirlpool dryer thats a piece of junk too. Not the bottom line products either. I now have a commercial side by side in stainless on order from a restaurant supply store.(been in biz for over 40 years at same location)I am getting a 15 year parts and labor warranty with it too at no additional cost. The total cost for my side x side???? Just under $2700. 15 year parts and labor warranty with no deduct? PRICELESS!

We have a Kenmore dishwasher, Kenmore smooth top stove, Maytag side x side refrig, Fridgedaire Freezer, and a Maytag washer/dryer. Any of them screw up and I spray them full of bullets....[}:)][}:)][}:)]

Next washer will be one of those front loaders you can see in the window. When it screws up I want it to see me blow it away...

New washers are all junk. Plastic wash tubs..

Lesson??? What lesson??? That Americans can't make an appliance that holds up!!! Sure make them junk so guys like you can make a living servicing them!!!!

What ever happened to making a product that lasts!!!! You buy an appliance it ought to last longer than three months before it wears out!!!! I happen to work for an American company that makes a good product and stands behind it. We service what we sell!!!!

Too bad Whirlpool, Maytag, Ge and a few others can't!!!![xx(]

My Ford dealer has the same attitude as you, you know what I drive a Toyota now!!!![:p]

Thats only because they DONT count in the recalls into their numbers. Have you ever looked at the amount of recalls on Whirlpool products?

it is very hard to buy anything by namebrand lately .i have 3 friends with the same luck with there new top of the line maytags .we are the last to know when the decide to send out a junk product .
i always research a large ticket item before i buy one .either i'll ask someone local (a repairman,gunsmith...) ,or here on gb ,or sometimes read up on it in the consumer reports magazine .
i vote we have a products comparision or evaluation forum here on gb.that way if we stubble onto a great or terrible product our friends here can share our good fortune or avoid the bad ones.
this will work with many items - autos, appliances, optics ,ammo ,or anything .

    IMHO they are all junk.
Everyone is building cheapo, crapo, junk.
Just what Americans, want, cheap & fast.
Even for Hobart commercial equipment, and they are all big $, in the purchase price & service too.
Hobart is now coming out with some sub-contract low line domestic stuff.

Had one lady that spent over $12,000 for a Moyer-Debolt dishwasher.
The ones that wash & dry in less than 10 minutes.
Still under warranty, but cant get parts for it from the Canada warehouse dist..
    Which is our "local", source.

On average i get about one recall a year on some product.

    Never anything major though.

The fact is maytag sold the company because they made thier products to cheap. A mistake that whirlpool has yet to make.

You need to check into their recalls. You can not be doing your customers service since you must not know about the recalls they have every year.

I do all the recalls and thats the truth.

By the way a recall is considered part of the warranty repairs.
Therefore they are part of the servay that is done to see who has the lowest service calls.

not too long ago, I thought I heard commercials from the maytag repair guys offering to fix any kind of washer/dryer, let alone their own stuff.

quote:They are trying to get the quality back up to what it used to be before maytag made the decision to build them CHEAPthat's right, didn't always used to be that way... the folks bought maytag washer/dryer about 1970, them forkin' things did not stop running! they bought new models in 1993, the old ones were still fine

I agree with you. The old maytags were amazing machines. Would run a good 15 to 20 years strong. But ten years ago maytag made the decision to start building thier machines cheaper(because people were complaining about thier prices). when it comes right down to it, Thats what cost them the company.

I sell both whirlpool and maytag products out of my store and i have worked on them for years. I can honestly tell you that for one whirlpool machine i have to fix, There are five more maytags that i have to fix. It has been that way for years now. That is why i back whirlpool 100%.
