Check out CNN Paula Zahn's coverage. That's got to be one of the stupidest women alive.
She been saying some dumb stuff!
"Here's what we think happened. A bridge collapsed."
    DUH, YA THINK?

FrancF: I rarely badmouth very many places in California - BUT - I was a flood
irrigator in the magnificent metropolis of Fresno for about two weeks in June
of 1963. I was covered by mud for ten hours a day, sometimes waist high in
cold water and roasted from the waist up at about 115?+.

I was just up there about a year ago - where the 5 splits - and couldn't believe
my eyes! The place had quadrupled a couple of times since the 60's! The farms
    up there, now, are huge!

It still isn't on my first thousand places I want to live, list!

When the world gets diarrhea, fresno is where it come out.

I spent a year there one week.

The place smells bad, and the hookers on the north end are almost uglier than OryGun wimmen(GB members excluded).

A1 - never got me any hookers up there in Fresno - I was too busy working
and sleeping - 'til 4:30 AM - BUT - I did get a nice case of athletes foot![:o)]

... mater of fact, that prompted us to go over to Santa Barbara to 'pickie Lemon,
    mon!'

Of course you know, this is the handi work of GW Bush & Co. Buildings don't collapse just because airplanes are flown into them starting huge fires. And bridges don't collpse for no apparent reason.
Did anyone see GW last nite?
I thought not! Now we know where he was.

... actually, part of the bridge was under repair construction.

Bridge fell 65 feet into river - more like 50 plus cars- semi's- one school bus- major accident- up to thirty workers on bridge when it happened. From what I see on the local news there will be many deaths.

Yeah, this isn't going to be pretty by the time it's all said and done. [V] I may have been over that bridge a couple times before.

One would think divers with rescue equipment would be air dropping in all over the scene but I see people standing around with at least six surrounding one patient on a stretcher.
I hope there's a disaster strategy in place.
The bridge repair contractor is in deep do-do.
    Bridges have huge safety factors.

Bridge repair was for surface only -no structural work was being done. All firemen, all emergency people have been called in. this is near Fairview or the university of mn. hospital and campus.

No argument there- Now I know you are full aware of the nut case that help prompt the CA, AW ban because of the nut case (Patrick Purdy)[:(!] that shot up the school kids in Stockton. Man was that a sad day for every day folks and gun owners. All it takes is one or a few bad apples and anti-gun law makers to press an agenda.

Will go way out on a limb here and predict that, before the day is out, one or more of the thundering herd running for president in 2008 will be on the scene grabbing TV time and turning the issue of the state of the physical infrastruture in the entire country into a "talking point"? Within a week, they'll have positions outlined on their web sites and will be able to recite 10 second sound bites on the topic as long as the cameras roll. And don't forget the crocodile tears for the victims.

Sad thing is ... that bridge's not old, for a bridge.

I'd imagine we are going to see more of this since our
roads and highways are approaching gridlock every
    day in our cities.

Just came back from Portland, OR at 'rush hour' and it's
worse than many places I've been. Getting pretty bad all
    over - stuff wears out.

Too bad candidates haven't been taking our roads seriously
for decades. I'd imagine we'll see much more of this in the
    not too distant future.

Dang, you beat me to it. Let's not forget Nancy, Harry and Dickweed Durbin will say it's Bush's fault. My guess is John Edwards will be the first Presidential candidate to make such a statement. He's an ambulance chaser.
