Mine said there was a german sheppard in the yard. Funniest german sheppard I ever seen with long legs. I dusted it with the .308

Yeah, i'd say that yote had something wrong with him, or was just getting entirely to socialized/brave.

We have them thick around here, but seldom will you see one...and even then only for a few seconds.

Well I have a good cure for the coyote(s). Nunn can take Dawnie a ride in the Cadillac and let her practice with the .223 that he has.[}:)][}:)] Don't forget to get a good shovel to dig holes for mass burials..

    David,

Time for a .22 MAG rifle and 4X scope. A one pop drop.[;)]

Good effort Dawnie. He had to be rabid to keep coming back in the middle of the day.

    Either rabid or exremely hungry.

ECC...... Yotes are not worthless, they make great targets.

I'd have to say if she was shooting a 3" Smith 36 one handed, double action, for the first time and hit it once thats not bad at all.

Next time, put the old man on hold, lay the phone down and use 2 hands. Dont feel bad if you kill one, there will be 20 to takes its place.

    Good work Dawnie [:)]

    He said WHY????

    Good cop answer![:D][:D][:D][:D]

Not too bad considering it was a 3 inch S&W 38 special. Tell David you need a nice new AR15.

target shooting hurts. in the moment whether deer or varmit you dont feel it because of the adrenaline.

I quess that is true, cause if there is a vamit trying to get to my dogs then I will do whatever I have to do to protect them.

Despite our good natured kidding about shootin and spelin, Good was Done by Dawn.

(Notice I left off the e in deference to you dyslexic Texans who figure the way of Texas should be the way of the world[:p])

Sorry though, kahy-oh-tee is the first choice pronunciation and kahy-oht the last. Texas got it wrong again![:p][:p]

Recoil is one of those things that, if you do it right dosn't hurt but if you do it wrong can sting a little. It's a lot like getting a injection, if your relaxed it isn't bad but if your tense.......

Keep the butt pulled snug/firm (not tight) into your shoulder, and your face down on the stock. Keep your back straight and your waist relaxed. The rifle (when standing) will be angled about 15-20 deg off your chest (for shotgun use a more open angle, closer to 60deg). If your shooting off a bench, you will find that most benchs have the seat to high for comfortable shooting, either bring a shorter seat (5 gal bucket or milk crate) or you can kneel next to the bench with the rifle still on the bench (back to keeping the back straight again). The "classic" hunched over the bench look is OK for playing with a 22rf, but it dosn't allow your body to move with the recoil once you start playing with the bigger stuff.
If I thought Nunn was going to start you out on something that had a higher level of recoil, than I'd also suggest pushing slightly forward with your forward hand, while pulling back with your trigger hand (this trick helps spread the recoil across your upper torso, instead of focusing it into your one shoulder).

BTW, my wife is the same way about protecting our critters, except she reaches for her 12ga.

North of Denver, they are called coy-ot not coy-otie. Any varmint critter that approaches a house in daylight, and keeps returning when there are dogs and people upset, is probably rabid. I love all God's critters, but under such conditions shoot to kill.

Dawnie: Good shooting, a little practice and you'll do just fine

Nunn: think of a Remington 597 Magnum for the next time a yote comes a calling...

Remington 597 no bueno. Maybe a nice Marlin or Ruger.

Even a Savage 93R would be a great little rifle for her.

I am going to dust off the old Marlin 99 and see if she likes that.

Nothing to be scared of. A shotgun will give you a nice push, but you literally won't even feel the kick of a .22 rifle, that's how light the recoil is.

quote:I called nunn and asked him if i [had] bullets in my gun,,He said WHY????

i dont shoot the gun,i didnt know if they were blanks or bullets,i was also talking to nunn on the phone when I was shooting at it.

Perhaps he should teach you how to tell for yourself if your gun is loaded or not (and how to load and unload it safely yourself).

If you have a gun, and think you might want to rely on it to protect yourself and your family, that might be something you'd like to know.

What if next time, the line is busy while you are calling your husband to find out if the gun in your hand is loaded or not? Will you ask the rabid coyote (or knife holding intruder) to still still for a moment while you re-dial?

An AR15 has very little recoil. If it got close enough to hit with a 3 inch Smith then a lever action in 357 or 44 would be just right, with very little recoil also.

If someone didnt know if a gun was loaded or not, I would rather them have a slingshot...[:D][:D][:o)][:o)][:o)][:o)]

This afternoon, Dawnie showed me where she was standing and where the coyote was when she shot it. I measured it off. It was 33 yards. Not bad.
