Stock Market Plunge - 200 Points !!
I have been predicting a civil war or violent political struggle inside America for a few years now. I have always felt one of the catalysists for it will be a severe economic downturn. Some people are prediciting a recession or even depression for America in 5-8 years. This could be very interesting.

The "Revolution" has been called for and predicted ever since I can remember, and that's a long time. Won't happen, and the Market is OK.0 -

....Well, yeah, I was going to jump out the window, but this is a one story house. This is a fun market for pinkie flippers like yours truly....[8D] 0 -
Sounds like a good buying opportunity, that is unless is can drop a little more first![:D] 0 -
I'm surprised Hairy hasn't done a c&p yet. Retired fed chairman Greenspan said the "R" word. Very possible before year's end. 0 -
Democrats in office for a little over one month and we are talking recession!
It's Pelosis' fault!0 -
Don't get too bent out of shape too quickly about something like that since markets go through "corrections" all of the time. The NYSE took a tumble as the result of some declines in the Chinese markets (and a few other factors), and many of those are the result of some economic policy changes rumored by the Chinese government to slow their rate of growth.
It looks like the Chinese may raise interest rates in order to raise borrowing costs to keep their economy from expanding too fast and causing inflation. They may also simply reduce the supply of money available to borrow. They understand that inflated prices could cause them to have a reduced ability to sell in the export market and they don't wish to let it get out of hand.
Virtually all markets worldwide will react to some degree or another to news of that type, and investors will tend to back off for awhile in order to let the dust settle and see which way things are actually going to move. Some money should move to bond markets now, but much of it will just sit tight for a bit and watch.
A decline is possible, but that is not the worst thing that can happen if you are prepared for it. The collapse in '87 was the best buying opportunity I have seen in my lifetime. The "doom and gloom" prophets will tend to start to bail if any real adjustment begins, and the additional sell off they generate tends to drive the market lower and create buying opportunities in some that are severely under priced at that time.
Watch for the bargains.[:)]0 -
200 points give or take a few isn't even close to a "correction" in this market. A downturn of 10% or so in a day, or a couple days at the end of a week, would be closer to a correction. When that happens start watching closely and get ready to spend money, because bargains will be there to be had. Remember the late 90's 550 point drop on a Thursday? (When the market was at half what it is now?) 0 -

That's why I put the word "correction" in quotes.[:)]0 -

Dlrjj and Alias are both correct here. Over many years I've come to the conclusion that the market, as are all things financial, is controlled by the largest of financial interests. In the overall picture they are able to generally manipulate the ebb and flow. When the wick is turned down it's time for them to feast on "wholesale" prices. As Dlrjj suggests, recognize it when it happens, and be in a position to capitalize on it, you have an opportunity to put your money with the "smart" money. 0 -

I just know that every time the Stock Market hiccups, my gold and silver bullion jumps up, yet rarely goes down. I bought a sizable (sizable for me that is) of both in the late `80s as a hedge against inflation and the stock market, and for use as currency should the SHTF as paper "notes" will become worthless. 0 -
What the heck? down only 362 now.
I hope we get Pelosis's balls for this!
Seriously, 300-500 is chump-change when the stock market is over 12,000.
SO climb off the ledge and unwad the panties!
Dang were is HAiry? I just came up with a new theory! Hairy's gone underground. The stock market is dropping. Doing the math here...Islamic Sympathizing Terrorism.0 -

I don't understand how 2-4% of hundreds of billions of dollars can be considered chump change.

Look at where it was at 1,2,3,4,5 years ago. it is now much higher than it was and the 3% drop doesn't not negate any of these past gains.
It is natural for it to go up and down. The net gain has been positive for decades and that is what matters.0 -

There won't be any of any consequence yet, there has not been enough movement, and the situation is far too young. Just give it time and watch to see what develops. There may be some things to look at, and it may just all blow over. It's far too early to more than just guess, and that is no way to invest.[:)]
The speculative issues and those that are in some financial trouble, like some auto stocks, will likely take the primary hits at the start if it develops into a genuine decline - but there is never a guarantee on that. If it continues, look for declines in the products that are not essential to exceed the declines of those for basic living, like food companies that are financially solid.0 -

As usual, you make no sense whatsoever.
I sleep with a gorgeous woman every night. You, OTOH, merely make a mess in your undies when you wake up.
If you're still wanting to be childish, I'm game. If you want to act like a grown-up adult, we're ready.
Meanwhile, you spell like a second-grade retard.0 -

Exactly, just let it go, but keep an eye on it just to see if something develops. There really is nothing here yet, but that doesn't mean it can't turn into something. A person just wants to be prepared to move if the opportunity arises.[:)]0 -
