Cheating at hunting

Gunsnpainthorses response on the older calibers thread made me wonder how some of you feel about some styles/methods of hunting.

Here in Texas it is common to hunt on ranches from deer stands (some are extremely comfortable with heat and padded seats)...the deer have been coming to the same feeders everyday at the same time...there is a clear shooting lane with the stand only about 50-100 yards away at times.

I cant hunt like that...feels like I might as well be standing in line at HEB to get my meat. My coworkers usually fill their tag the first day or two.

I took one of them with me to Arkansas last year and all I heard was complaining about having to sleep in a tent, having to walk to hunt, having to read tracks and look for rubs and scrapes. And then he only got one buck...said it was too much work to be any fun and he would never come back.

Whats your thoughts? To me that is not truly hunting...more like culling a herd of cows or lambs.

    He should just go to one of those web sites that lets you hunt from your computer. You aim and shoot from the web screen.

    20' up a tree with a light cool breeze ahhh you can't beat it. Oh and its illegal to bait here so you have to find bedding areas, feeding areas, or trails and set up just a little ways off them. I prefer the bow for white tail but pick up the slug gun during season.

    baiting is only allowed in the southeast for deer due to the over size herds in the suburban areas. quote: That line of though is somewhat an oxymoron. In many places baiting is permitted because deer numbers are low or habitat to thick to "easily" hunt. If you need to bait when populations are strong their is something really wrong. This is becoming a trend in my great state. Box blinds and feeders are showing up all over the place and our deer numbers are at an all time high. Quite frankly around here if you can't CLUB a deer over the head you are doing something seriously wrong yet people feel the need to bait to shoot one. I won't say I don't sit in blinds. I have a few and may spend an hour or two at first or last light, on occassion, but they are not a primary hunting tool. Often I use them more to scout an area than to hunt from. I also see a difference in using baiting to draw/keep deer in a general area vs to draw them to a specific spot. I currently find deer hunting reasonably easy, so much so that I use a handgun 99% of the time. Why bait?

    When I was growing up hunting in the 1960's you would be arrested for baiting deer. Now people hunt over a deer feeder and/or from a luxury elevated hunting condo. It's a different world today and if it's legal, so be it, but I really do not equate it to hunting. I prefer to hunt the same way I did in my youth, just a little slower now a days.

    When I was in NB I hunted over apples that I picked up on my own and hunted with a rifle and got pretty good at bringing home the meat. And I really enjoyed the time in the woods. I've been in MA for the past four years and no more baiting and no more rifle hunting. I have to hunt with a muzzle loader ... I'm still using deer stands as my knees continue to get worse ... but I have not gotten a deer for the past four years. I'm trying some scent things this year and planning on reducing my stink, too. I am getting real hungry for some venison![:D][:D][:D][:D]
