What to do with $50k??
You have just been handed $50,000, how would you invest it?
Is there anything you could invest it in that would atleast double it's value in 10 years?

Buy land. 0 -
I'd pay-off college loans and the Explorer and buy a new motorcycle with the remaining 15,000. Any change left over will go in the bank. 0 -
I'd put it into international mutual funds, particularly those focusing on China. 0 -

India is booming as well.
The mainstream international emerging market funds have not been doing that great but over the long haul these are supposed to be very good.0 -
Cousin just bought 160 acres of prime wooded hunting land last year. The timber appraised for the same amount he paid for the land. Fixing to have the timber cut, which will pay for the land, and leave him with 160 acres for basically nothing.
Just an idea.

Since you asked ...
I'm still buying real estate in Costa Rica - should quadruple/quintuple in 10
years. The operative word, however, is 'should' ... but it's trebled in the last
ten years and now the market there is getting hot ... I'd say 4x is going to
be easy!
... it's part of the reason I've been able to retire comfortably at 55.[:D]
P.S. I'd imagine the American market(s) is/are going to collapse in the next
couple of years and it'll be a while before it's going to recoup for much of
a profit.
... just an educated guess.[:D]0 -

A few nights at the strip club.

Yes. Anything but a stripper.0 -
Hi cap magazines. Better hurry! 0 -
Buy the Bryco/Jennings factory and burn it down. Even though $50K is more than it's worth, I'd be doing the gun world a favor. [:D] 0 -
Cardboard! 0 -
I know a guy who bought a stripper once - should have checked her ID - and
he's STILL paying for it.[8D]0 -
DNA synthesis, and I'd have 25k left to spend on vacations+hookers. 0 -

I like the land/timber deal. Use an agricultural broker/lawyer. They get a hefty cut, but also look for the best deal. My parents did a select cut of the old homestead (30 acres of trees). They were able to chose the size of tree and it allowed them to be sure to do it again ten years later. They selected to have the cut trees be at least 16" diameter at mark (48" from ground). They still got $40,000. Figure that as a sure bet every ten years and you have a steady income. Beats a CD any day if you know what you are doing. 0 -
Hard to go wrong buying any decent real estate. I've known people to double their money in a few months buying and selling real estate.
I'd invest a few thousand in silver and stash it away somewhere. Of course gold is more valuable but silver has outpaced gold in it's return over the years. You could have bought silver for around 4 bucks a troy ounce back in 2003. You can dump all the silver you want today for upwards of 14 dollars a troy ounce. What's it's next move? Not sure but many signs point to a steady increase. It has it's ups and downs but it is a precious metal and has many factors going for it right now. It would give me more piece of mind than any stock, if not for the simple fact that it's always immediately available. I'd probably buy 10k worth at least.
The rest divide up between RIAs, savings, stocks, bonds, and fun money.0 -
I'd spend half on booze and women........The other half, I'd just waste!!! 0
