What to do with $50k??
You have just been handed $50,000, how would you invest it?
Is there anything you could invest it in that would atleast double it's value in 10 years?

Cousin just bought 160 acres of prime wooded hunting land last year. The timber appraised for the same amount he paid for the land. Fixing to have the timber cut, which will pay for the land, and leave him with 160 acres for basically nothing.
Just an idea.
Ben
Won't cutting all that timber scare away the deer?
On the contrary. Some of the best hunting I've seen was over cut-over. Deer love it. We're not talking about cutting all the trees and having a golf course left behind. There is a ton of under brush, which will now thicken due to the added sunlight, and some timber depending on what they are cutting for.

I'd sink it into my gun store. 0 -
Can't do a lot of serious investment with 50K by itself. It could be used as a down payment on a larger investment. That sort of down payment would allow you to purchase 250k dollar of rental property. Which in turn would make a 200k debt. with payments less than the rents. With appreciating property and tax advantanges a possible solution with the money wearing a hole in your pocket. 0 -
You may be able to get a jumbo short term CD, or just use the Orange ING savings account their interest rates are top notch. 0 -
$50 K is a small amount for investing- HOWEVER- buy Tootsie Rolls. Not the candy- the stock. Go to Yahoo finance, enter stock symbol TR, pull a 5 yr chart. Notice the little black triangles that indicate stock splits? 0 -
I refuse to testify on the grounds that it might tend to incriminate me.
Contact me and I will take you under my wing and show you the ropes,so to speak.
And don't forget to bring the $50,000.00 in small unmarked bills.

What to do with 50K ?
Take it back to the 7-11 you "borrowed" it from[:D]0 -
LAND definitly they aint makin any more of it 0 -
Land provides little repeat income unless oil or gas is discovered or you got trees. Pasture land goes for 900/acre or more. you can lease it for 20/acre Been there done that, IMHO Blue Chip, Dividend paying stocks are the one of the better ways to go for that amt of $$. Be very careful of the advice you get. 0 -
Yep - the question was "How would you invest it?" ... inferred biggest bang for the buck ... unless you have a LOT of $$$ to invest for a LONG TERM investment ... land certainly ain't it. If you pool your $$$ with a consortium of like minded investors who have an inside track you will have an advantage - it's THAT ADVANTAGE that makes the difference - especially in the 'near future market.'[:D] 0 -
That would only get me about half way out of debt.

The right fund (with little risk) will double in 6 years. Right now I am getting 12% to 15 % return. 0 -

I'd pay off my debt and most of my house. $50k would leave me owing about $35k on my house and nothing else.
That's my first reaction. Pay it down on the house, and continue life as usual.0 -
Probably the only investment I understand very well. Loan it at out at 12% interst only on real estate trust deeds, in a state that I know the law in. I'm not recomending that for everyone, being honest, it's a field that is known for novice failures. 0 -
Spend it on having fun.
You never know if you'll still be alive in 10 years.0 -
I'd invest in me. 0 -
Retire any debt above 6% by land in fast growing area.

you cant buy youth, but for all you older people out there, spending 50k on hookers sure will make you feel young I'll bet.
Seems to me that would be the best investment, memories that will last a life time0 -

I'd put it into international mutual funds, particularly those focusing on China.
That might be a good move as long as they don't decide to "nationalize" and take away all the assets.0 -
Good question ... I'm going to give it some thought!
I'm thinking that I'd pass along a chunk to the kids, pay off my debts, and get a Honda ATV, and do some work on the house and then give some more thought to the rest of it.0
