Scientologists
We have a big problem with scientologists down here harassing private citizens who speak openly about scientology in a negative way. There is this big Scientology Church in clearwater. It has two white lines running in front of it. They routinely hire clearwater police to protect these white lines. If you walk on the whote lines and your not in the church, they record your license plate number and have you followed. something crazy about that to me. anyway found this post about it http://home.tampabay.rr.com/sp/PI.html

Ancient history Neil. Besides, that had been done in the name of the church by men, but it was not done in the name of GOD by (real) Christians. An example being John Newtons experience and his actions that followed. The contrast between real men of GOD and those who impose their will disguised as Christians. [;)]0 -

When the Holy Roman Church is the most powerful terrorist organization in the world ain't it time to call foul? You say ancient history, but the church was not crushed out of existence at that time, so the potential remains. Remember "Kill a Commie for Christ"? Not such an ancient sentiment from purported Christians. I guess, as always, you judge men my their actions, not by what the profess, or testify. 0 -

Very good points HeDog, I agree with you as usual. I'll address it this way; you simply will know who is a Christian by his love and by the fruits he bears. Distinguishing between the two may not always be easy as disguises are designed to deceive. But I believe that time will bear out the truth in someone . The Word states that "what is done in the dark will be revealed in the light".

I really don't think that there is a valid/reasonable comparison between scientology and Christianity.
I have many other experiences with scientology, none of which are good.
I can't say the same about Christianity.

Valid comparisons can be made among any groups professing to be religions. I agree however that Scientology is a tax dodge for a con game, and not a religion.
Hubbard thought it hilarious that some nut jobs turned dianetics into a religion. He wrote it as a spoof.0 -
To be honest, I find it hard to find a difference between a cult and a religion. I'm sure the original followers of Jesus were ridiculed and classed as a cult when he was alive. Was this because they only numbered a few hundred or was it that their beliefs were so different to existing established religions. Religions that themselves at an earlier time were probably classed as cults?
Can religion be equated to Darwins theory of evolution?
The cult stage.
It is bought into existence by one persons belief and grows by converting more people into believing. It then either dies because it can't convert sufficient people, or the existing religion it's trying to replace is too strong and aggresive and destroys it, or it thrives and moves into.
The true religion stage.
This stage can last a thousand years or more. All this time other cults are emerging and trying to gain dominance. Eventually a new cult emerges that itself will go through the same evolutionary steps until it becomes the dominant religion, and relegates the old religion into it's final stage.
The mythology stage.
To join Zeus and all the other Gods who were once worshiped as devoutly as today's Gods are, but are now just children's stories.0 -

why is it that when a religious subject is ever raised, instead of keeping to that specific topic, Christianity is 1: always brought into the discussion regardless of relevance, and 2: nearly immediately attacked or compared to early history when things were not so civilized. back then the focus was less on religion as it was on world domination by a single ruler...case in point, the Roman Empire. led by the caesars, augustus, octavius and julius to name a few, whose goals were not to convert others to their religious beliefs, but to overthrow them and take their lands, possessions and in many cases, enslave them. this was before christianity and the so called holy roman church. if i offend with that statement, so what? my personal beliefs in God and Jesus Christ are mine alone. if i wish to share them i do so but with well researched and open discussion. if you are willing to listen, all the better. if not, then i won't talk about it.
i think Kevin Smith, in his movie "Dogma" had it correct that people screwed things up by taking an idea and building a belief structure on it. you can change an idea. but a belief? people die for it, people kill for it. and some people make movies about global warming or dick and fart jokes because of it. snoogans.0 -
I realize it's an unusual source of information, but there was an extensive interview with L. Ron Hubbard, Jr. published in Penthouse magazine many years ago. It's interesting to hear some of the things he had to say about this "religion" his father founded. Don't expect to see Tom Cruise or John Travolta discussing what he had to say on their next Leno or Letterman appearance.

What a lot of people don't realize is that Scientology is black magic that is just spread out over a long time period. To perform black magic generally takes a few hours or, at most, a few weeks. But in Scientology it's stretched out over a lifetime, and so you don't see it. Black magic is the inner core of Scientology --and it is probably the only part of Scientology that really works. Also, you've got to realize that my father did not worship Satan. He thought he was Satan. He was one with Satan. He had a direct pipeline of communication and power with him. My father wouldn't have worshiped anything. I mean, when you think you're the most powerful being in the universe, you have no respect for anything, let alone worship.

If you want a quick overview of some of Scientology's stated beliefs Southpark style, watch this clip. It's from the episode that p'ed them off so badly and caused Isaac Hayes to quit the show. He failed to take into account they owned all episodes he'd been in, so they came out with another episode devoted to ridiculing Scientology by chopping/pasting together his old audio clips. It was freakin' hilarious.
