Do I bother you?
Okay lets all get on the same page.
I got an e-mail from a person I have never met, nor will ever meet. She says that I spend to much time "chatting" about my Ehler-Danlos syndrome. (EDS) I was told the "most people" do not want to hear about it, makes then feel "bad". (the person I am speaking of is not from this forum)
Now as for myself if I have bothered anyone I am sorry, I can see how it could/would do that. As for myself and my family it is the big problem for all of us. For any who dont know my Daughter has EDS also, should anyone ask I will tell them what she goes through on a day to day basis. It is not that I am looking for some sort of sympathy, I am PROUD of how she is able to deal with a hard life that will just get worse. Come on she is 8 and has been dealing with this better than I do most of the time. She has been in and out of the hospital since she was 14 months old.
My son, only a few of you know it but he is adopted, I have raised him as mine since he was 2, he is 17 now, I forget he is adopted most of the time. To me it does not matter. Anyway he has problems with his heart, again to him it is the biggest problem to worry about. We have been to Dr's for years trying to deal with his problems. For a number of years it stopped, worked fine, never missed a beat, Now he is allways tired, looks like a 50 year old, cant do much of anything with his friends, He deals with it great.
So now that I have gone on about the problems I "chat about to much" I want to know does it really bother you folks? For me at times it is just a way to unwind, talking about it helps me relax and to be honest "seeing it written down" sometimes helps me get ideas as to what to try or just what to ask the next DR.
If you do not want to reply on here send me an PM I will keep anything you have to say to myself. One of the few things I have left is my word of honor and nothing in my messed up body will take that from me.
Thanks for your time, David.

Does not bother me in the least, Dave. Feel free to chat with me anytime. 0 -
I think people who are honest and describe their life makes this place refreshing. It adds depth to people beisdes just our opinions about politics and religion. You get to really "know" some people here. Maybe I'm just nosey, but the people that talk about their life occasionally are the most interesting. I tend to look for those moments when a person actually describes themselves. Kind of helps me remember and distinguish screen names. The totally impersonal screen names are all kind of a blur, but the ones with a personality stand out.
Wish you would post more often again. Your opinions are rather interesting.
BTW, they named the disease after your daughter?
Can you trademark that sort of thing?0 -
Doesn't bother me a bit. As a passive observer on this forum for the last couple of years I've found that this is a close knit group of people that feels to me like a family. If people don't want to hear about your problems they don't have to read about them but from what I've observed here, I would say that most would offer support and an open ear. 0 -
Dave,
You must not talk about it too much. I've been here a couple years now and this is the first I've read of it. Might have just missed it before but it doesn't seem like "too much" to me. By the way, if you posted it everyday for the rest of your life it wouldn't be too much for me.
That's what's great about the anonanimity(sp?) of the internet, you can say things you might not feel comfortable talking about to aquantances or use it to get something off your chest like you say.
What's also GREAT about internet forums is the 100% complete ability to NOT read anything you like.
I pray for you and your family to remain strong and renewed health.

It don't bother me, Dave. The real people are refreshing, just
ignore the ignorant.0 -
I didn't want to say anything publicly, but it's that gas problem. To be frank, there is a smell like last night's cheap beer that comes across the computer when I read the posts of some people here.
Some times I just want to type "I SMELL A$$".0 -
Yes! Your post is too long and "Wordy"!

Email her back and tell her if she doesn't like it she doesn't have to read it. It's not like she doesn't have a choice. 0 -
Dave,
I'd tell her: "Thank you for your display of compassion. I had given up hope of ever seeing another of your type, but along you came! Thank you, from the bottom of my heart. It's good to know that, in this instant-oatmeal, drive-thru ATM, Internet, instant-gratification day and age we live in, good old-fashioned b!#@#es like yourself can still be found. Have a nice day."0 -
Dave,
You just keep right on doing what you you do and don't worry about what others may think about it. It's always good to talk about problems, and I believe it's good for the soul to do just that.
Email her back and tell her to pizz off and mind her own business....
Old folks like me will listen to your every word any time you choose to write em down......0 -
...I find it interesting to hear how you cope, such as shooting with your braces, wheelchair problems, even some financial corners to turn a couple years ago. (Hope that worked out OK) As was said, it helps to put a face on you. Carry on. 0 -
Dave,
Doesn't bother me at all. If writing your thoughts down here in the forum helps you piece together things in the "real" world then go for it. Many of us are here for the same reason we just don't have the day to day challenges that you and your family face. Post away my fiend and tell that ^$*#% to take a long walk off a short pier.0 -
[8D]--Yo Dave-If we started a list of people that we DIDN'T want to post on this forum--
-You'd never show up ol buddy-keep it up

Doesn't bother me either. Being that we're in the age of the internet now it makes typing/chatting a little more personal when you know about people. Forget that lady, just brush her off like the dirt she is. 0 -

+1 on that Dave. I have only seen a couple of posts about your issues. I feel its an honor that you choose to share your life with us. Health issues are a very personal thing and it takes a lot of courage to reach out and talk about them with people you have never met face to face. Post away, we will listen and offer any kind of moral support that we can.
People can choose not to click on your threads if they don't want to share in the topic.0 -

It never occured to me to be bothered. In fact, I think most people revel in hearing of someone's misfortune. It makes their own miserable lives seem less so.
I know when I post a good deal I've made or some uplifting post, only the really kind or normal people respond to it. Most people are petty and jealous and they gash their teeth and flail their arms in anger. [:p]
Don't let one abnormal person ruin your day. I'm sure most really enjoy your post.[:D]0 -
Not an issue at all with me. Sharing gives insight. Insight lends itself to appreciation. Appreciation can foster a friendship. 0 -
Dave, it doesn't bother me at all. Captplaid probably said it more eloquently than I ever could, in respects to it adding depth to people on here, to get to know people for who we are. I also for one, appreciate the education. Those who know me really well know I'm diabetic. It's no big deal, especially compared to other conditions, but people ask lots of questions. I feel good knowing I can educate them on my condition (most often asked question is, "Is it contagious"?), so when they encounter other people with diabetes in the future, they know it's not a big deal, we're not a bunch of lepers. I imagine you feel the same way. So, no, you talking about your EDS doesn't bother me at all. Ignore the "haters" and keep up the Good Fight. It's good to have you here on this forum. 0 -
...no problem Dave. If I had been you, I would have had a few choice words for the female writer. Tell her if she does not want to read where you mention your problem...DONT read it then! I would have told her to stuff it too. Write on sir!...[;)]

Dont worry about it Dave. Some people are heartless and selfish like that. Talk about it all you like here and get it off your chest. Certainly doesn't bother me. Best wishes for you and your daughter and son. 0 -
No, Dave. As a matter of fact I find your posts useful in putting my own problems into perspective. I hope that doesn't come across as cold or unfeeling. It's just that I need the reminder from time to time, that life is really good for me. And you're an inspiration to those who may be tempted to feel sorry for themselves.
Every day on GunBroker, I find some topic or another that I'm not personally interested in or have no input to. I simply move on.
I am always amazed, however, at the outpouring of Human Kindness that I've encountered here.
Rock on, Brother Dave.0 -
Dave...
You are saying the person that emailed you said you talk about it too much?..well if you do, then its not on here cause I didnt even know anything about what you had...
I read anything medical or even remotely connected to medical as that is my first training and my first and last love...and I still didnt know about it...*LOL
I cant believe the gall the person had to email you and say that...Next time the person starts chatting or posting about what their problems are, I would firmly but politely say the same thing as was said to you by that person...
And yes, you have every right to be proud of your kids and the way they are handling their medical problems...
Post and chat away Dave, most of us like to hear about it...0 -
Doesn't bother me at all. Jeez--nobody forces people to read stuff they don't want to read. What's up with them?[:(!] 0 -

Most if not all of us as human beings have a fault (among others) of concentrating on "our" problems and how things affect "us". Posting your emails you can help others as well as yourself. As Colonel Plink so aptly put it it helps put our own lives into perspective. One of the biggest problems that people can have is getting depressed because of what is happening to them and the feeling that nobody else has it as bad as me. I applaud you and your family. I have seen with my oen eyes the strength of character that can be built through hardships. The most giving, caring people I know are that way becasue they can empathize with others hurts and hardships. Keep posting the person you help may not be yourself. If someone doesn't like it they don't have to read it. If they want to complain just think about what a sad existance they must have. Good Day. 0 -
Doesn't bother me either. Sounds unanimous. This is the place to hang out.[:D]
By the way, tell your emailer to go Piss Up a Rope!0 -
I would never be bothered by something like that. In fact, I rather enjoy reading how you are able to overcome your problems and do many of the things you still do.
What you deal with on a daily basis makes the difficulties most of the rest of us have pale by comparison, and it helps put things in perspective to know a person like you who doesn't have to back down in the face of adversity. Don't stop.[:)]0 -
If you bothered me I would tell you, and I haven't. That should say it all.[;)] 0
