Don't know about a shot... But I saw my dad die from lung cancer!!! Not pretty!!! Try anything!!! Try everything!! 0 -
Yes there are the shots to stop smoking....Ask your dr about them....They offered them in florida thru the VA clinic....
SHe might want to try Welbutrin....Get a two months prescription, and start the pills with a quit date written down..usually 2 or 3 weeks after you start the pills...
COntinue to smoke as you normally do, BUT the more you get into it, the LESS you smoke....On your quit day, you get up, take your pill and thats it for cigs...continue taking your pills for the rest of the time....no cravings, no withdrawls....It worked for me...quit in 2003,...havent really had a craving since then....0 -
Get her a different habit. I found that smoking was more for the habit than the nicotene. I started eating sunflower seeds when I had a craving. That, or I'd brush my teeth when I had a craving. After you're done brushing your teeth, the thought of smoking a cigarette is gross and the craving will quickly pass.
I quit without the need of any gum, patch, or medication.
Same with chewing, the sunflower seeds did it for me there as well.0 -

WHen I was smoking and wanted to stop, I tried the teeth brushing method...all it did was make me crave it more...0 -

Ever heard of over brushing...My dentist gave me hell for it...fluoride treatments for a yr!!!0 -
Get a big jar, and every day put $3 in it (price of a pack of smokes). At the end of the year, you can be a non-smoker at the range with a new $1000 gun.... 0 -

Heh heh heh,
You got that right! I smoked for over 30 years, I could brush, smoke, and sip coffee at the same time.[:0]
The hardest thing I found was beating the hand to mouth habit, I still carry coffee stirs, and it has been almost 8 years.

Chantix. Not a shot, but a pill. It works.
Look it up on Google. It interrupts the pain/pleasure receptors in the brain. You don't agonize over not having a smoke, and if you do slip and smoke one, you don't get any pleasure from it.
I used it and am tobacco free.
You say your wife "needs to quit." Everyone who smokes needs to quit. The question is, does she WANT to quit? I mean does she REALLY want to quit? If she does, Chantix will work. If she doesn't, nothing will work.0 -

I wonder what you'd feel like after sex when you're on this medication.
Or
Stub your toe? Who cares? I can't feel it.0 -
There are shots too David....and pills..
Anything is worth a shot to stop that filthy habit...My habit now?...sugar free popsicles....love those things...0 -
Here's one in shot form ...
The SMARTT Shot Scopolamine Mediated Anticholinergic Receptor Treatment
The SMARTT Shot is a new and improved smoking cessation shot consisting of a combination of two medicines that have been around for over a decade and are FDA-approved for indications other than quitting smoking.
These medicines are Scopolamine (which is the ingredient of the sea sickness patch) and Atarax (which is an antihistamine like Benadryl) in a unique formula to block the nicotine receptors in the brain and help ease the physical withdrawal associated with quitting smoking.
This nicotine block is then continued for the next 2 weeks by using a combination of the scopolamine patch and medications taken orally. The SMARTT Shot is a new formulation of a smoking cessation shot which was developed in 1983. The SMARTT Shot does not use atropine (which can make your heart race) or the antipsychotic medication Thorazine (chlorpormazine).
After all, we agree that you are crazy for smoking, but not crazy enough to need Thorazine! The SMARTT Shot is just as effective as the old shot with less chance of side effects. Unlike the old shot, which took three shots (two behind the ear and one in the buttocks); the SMARTT Shot is given with just one shot!
At the AMI-Quit Doc Clinic we have helped hundreds of people quit using the SMART shot with a success rate of between 70-80%. Our results are so impressive that we were asked to present our data at the American College of Chest Physicians meeting in October 2004.
Our results are significantly better than the nicotine replacement patch/gum

I used Chantix as well, and now a proud non-smoker. It doesnt really block the pain/pleasure receptors in your brain, rather the receptors that nicotene attach to. When nicotene attaches to your brain receptors endorphines are released. With chantix nicotene does not attach; therefore, no endorphines released which is what produces the pleasure from smoking.
Also, when prescribed this medication you also are enrolled in a program developed by pfizer called "get quit". This keeps track of your progress, gives you activities, and informs you of the process your body is going through...it also has a toll free # to call when you get a craving, where you talk to a real person for support.
Cubs, the sex and stubbing your toe issue is no different than before taking medicine.0 -
I agree, Chantix works.
Used to do 3+ packs of little cigars a day, now smoke free.0 -

You have received an abundance of info on how products and what products will help your wife stop smoking, and its all good info from ppl who have used the products and stopped smoking....
BUT!!!...
Nothing will work, and I do mean NOTHING unless she has the desire to stop smoking....If she thinks she can "slow down", forget it, she will smoke more than ever...she has to want to stop smoking...0 -
I used to be a 3-packer a day and cut cold turkey ... have been smoke free since 1982 [^]. 0 -
Thanks for all your help, i truly do appreciate it.

For some reason I came to really believe that cigs would kill me, my body began to give me signs. After that, it was easy to quit cold turkey. Ya, I know there's those who smoke two packs for 80 years with no problem, but the truth is its gonna kill you. Why not put a 44 mag in your mouth and pull the trigger? It aint much different. Or better, just quit. NOW! 0 -
I kicked the habit using Welbutrin. But YOU have to be ready to quit.I think this may be true for all methods.Good luck to her. 0 -

Find something to fill the hand to mouth habit, I use coffee stirs, you can use tooth picks, straws, etc, you can still go hang, but instead of smoke use a placebo.

The shot should be FEAR of killing your loved ones
My wife was just diagnosed with emphesema.
Her Mother smoked for the twenty years she lived with my wife and I smoked for about ten years of our marriage.
My wife never took one puff.0 -

I switched to dipping for awhile to try and break the habit. Then I was going to switch off to mint snuff after I was over the physical smoking habit. Here is the website for the mint snuff, get the pouchs the lose stuff sucks and has a much different texture compared to real chew. http://www.mintsnuff.com/mintsnuffstory.htm
Is this pill covered by normal insurance, and if it's not is it real expesnive? How would I find out about it since I don't a doctor and don't typically go until I'm at deaths door?0 -
kodiakk...the Chantix pill was covered under my insurance, I had to pay a co-pay of $35 for a one month supply. The doctor suggests using it for 3 months. The cost of the prescription without insurance is around $120 a month....still probably less than most tobacco users spend a month on cigarettes or chew. 0 -

No there were no physical cravings... Taking the welbutrin for two months with the quit date 2 weeks after starting to take them, you notice a cutting down..you dont want the cigarettes, and as I said, on the morning of your quit date, you are finished smoking...I havent picked up one since May 15th, 2003....You continue to take the welbutrin, and it works the same way...no cravings....there is none when you stop the welbutrin either...I still dont crave cigarettes....I can stand next to someone smoking and all I think is how bad they stink....
The shots were covered by insurance here....I do believe for the one person the cost was like 600 or so, when she didnt have insurance, but dont quote me on that....
My pills were 9 dollars a month for the co pay.... But in all honesty, stop and consider what is being paid out per month for the cigarettes you smoke....that would cover the cost of the pills if you dont have insurance..
One thing I found when I quit is the time you have extra....you will be shocked at how much time is wasted smoking....after you quit, there is all that extra time, ...I used the extra time for me...called it "me time"...
I think the shots would not address the hand-mouth addiction, so I went with the welbutrin to give me time to find something to do in its place....0 -
I'll definately look into this, thanks guys. 0 -
Snuff is an option...
and its not especially dangerous.

The "shot" that cured me was when I got back to the States & found the price of cigarettes was twenty cents/pack. Cured me instantly.
My fater died from emphysema & when I called my mother to tell her she said she had just gotten back from the hospital & that my uncle had died from throat cancer.
My fater & uncle died the same day within a short time of each other but 2000 miles apart. BOTH FROM SMOKING CIGARETTES.0 -
I lost both parents to smoking. My father was 52 when he died, a year younger than I am now. My mother was 64, just about to retire. Also lost an uncle from both sides of the family.
I now see smoking as a delayed reaction suicide. You pull the trigger when you are young but the bullet doesn't hit you until you are older.
The mindset of tobacco industry execs is also alien to me.
If there was ever a product that needed banning, tobacco is it. Let tainted foods kill 4 or 5 people and the world convulses. Tobacco kills 400,000 every year.0
