Just to set the record straight...

Capitalists come in many flavors. Some of the best capitalists are also communists. Witness Red China. Capitalism and politics are two different animals. People who worship money are pretty much the same no matter their politics. Perhaps you've confused the worship of money with race, religion, and politics.

Russia? I found the Russian people to be warm and friendly. Both they and I were somewhat confused as to why we should ever be enemies as we are much more similar than different.

I also found a country that's broken. What good is money when one can't buy a bar of soap at any price? Why would a government allow its people to live in deplorable conditions when there is an obvious choice?

You live in a small country tucked away (in a sense) from the rest of the world. If I may say, you lead a somewhat privileged existence in that it's been to the advantage of the rest of the world to more or less leave Sweden alone. You don't carry the baggage of Pearl Harbor or 9/11.Consider this when you blanket the US with criticism.

We in the US may be far from perfect, but our intentions aren't sinister. Like it or not, we're called to center stage more often than any would wish. We're not tucked away in a small somewhat remote and quiet corner of the Baltic.

An observation... As has been posted above, GunBroker is probably not the best place to find your answers if answers are really what you're looking for. A good number of members here take a somewhat narrow world view and may especially dislike what some of your posts would appear to insinuate. I'm trying to tell you that we love to fight amongst ourselves, but generally take collective offense when an outsider goes beyond what is considered polite and acceptable behavior. Scrapping amongst ourselves is good sport, but woe be to the outsider who threatens one of us.

We narrow-minded folks are a part of what has made the US a great nation. We're the very folks who were raised to say exactly what we mean and mean exactly what we say. We (rich or poor) are not your capitalists, nor are we political windbags. We are the folks who will extend a hand in friendship or take up arms at a moments notice as circumstances dictate. We are the people whom enemies of the US have always underestimated.

Perhaps you should extend your education beyond speaking with a rabbi as I suggested. Maybe you should visit us here on the other side of the Atlantic. And don't expect that any experience in New York City remotely speaks for the US as a whole. We're a much deeper people than that as a nation.

    My Best,

    Talented- really in Sweden?

I say Sweden might offer some strategic value to NATO. It might be a good place for a missel defense system. The people are mostly passive, so they probably won't say much when we come in to run the show.

Also, this fits with our Empire building model.

I think the benefit for US greatly outweight the liability of another nation that could complain, moan, and want to run things. Yes, I say let Sweden join. It's not like they are going to say anything.

Sweeden have nothing to contribute with ?

Well, they have BOFORS who makes some really high quality grenades and parts for grenades that the US military uses. The Excalibur grenades are built mainly of parts from sweden.

That grenade has about double the range of a traditional grenade had - and has pinpoint accuracy.

They have stealth corvettes (boats) which the US have borrowed to run tests on..

That's the HMS VISBY that the US military was keen to get to know better.

i am against the united states at any time surrendering command of our forces to any forein commander u.n., nato or otherwise. let these countries defend themselves first, if they can't then they can pay the cost of their defense instead of freeloading instead of the u.s. taxpayers[B)]

An American General is Usually in-charge at NATO and if you consider his title (Supreme Allied Commander Europe)... you see that at least on paper all the military forces of Europe are under our command[^] also, I like how their symbol is the Cross, but I dread the day we need them to help us out...

NATO - a loose confederation of nations coming together for a common defense.

Isn't that the original intent of the United States of America? Each state does their own thing but collectively they provide a national defense.

With a record like Sweden had in not aiding the Allies in WW 2, and aiding the Nazi's with their iron ore/ ball bearing sales as they did,
I wonder just how faithfull they would be to NATO in wartime if money again played a part. Enemies can become friends sometime but these damn
rail sitters (same as Switzerland) look out too much for the big bucks in their coffers.

Sweden has a history of playing "neutral" while capital($$$)izing from both sides.
I don't want to hear any moralizing from Sweden or Swedes. They not only stood by and watched atrocious national activities by Germany and Russia but they did large scale business with Germany in strategic
    raw materials and finished weaponry.
I'm surprised the Allies didn't bomb the hell out of their mining and metalworking industries and their rail and shipping connections to Germany during the war.
    Finland has a better record.

Sweden doesn't need NATO because they are neutral. NATO doesn't need Sweden because they bring nothing to the table for defense.

I agree, the other "Nations" would do well to Surrender and become "States" of our "One Nation, Under God".

    Useless weaponary; hardly.

Futurweapons once had a rocket launcher [I think it was swede] that could explode just inside a window, take out a wall, and other nifty tricks.
Perhaps the US can match this capibility, but it was interesting nonetheless.

They also had another future weapons episode about a portable swede 155 cannon that can deploy in about 30 seconds fire the shot, and be gone [hopefully] before the enemy can return fire. Even though its not american I believe we should buy a few of these or at least buy the design and copy it ourselves. ** Maybe we can jaz it up to fire atomic shells. ** [just a thought][:)]

Yes they had a demo in which I think they blew up one of those saab/ volvo cars.

Bofors supplied mountain and anti tank guns to Germany according to a web reference. Germany also was in possession of Bofors 40mm AA guns allegedly through Poland.
