Actually, I don't think we should be protecting Europe any longer, no offense to you intended, Talent.
We waste billions of dollars a year protecting Europe, only to have Europeans badmouth the United States at each and every turn. Financially-speaking, the EU seems to do fine on its own. You guys can defend yourselves.0 -

Uhh yeah i forgot to mention...Finland is facing the same kind of questions also right now...Over there in our buddycountry the goverment even printed up a pamphlet informing the nation bout what a decision like that could mean (well from the perspective of the politicans then u know). 0 -

On a serious note NATO has been filled with corruption with the leaders policy and his son's financial gains...NATO is an ineffective worthless system. Would you believe NATO has contracted with Russia (Volga Dnepr) for NATO's military airlift requirements?
NATO's enemies.....are flying NATO's military assets around.....think about that for a minute. Also the "Cold War" never ended. NATO is still versus Communism and Militant muslims.
Has Volga Dnepr (Russian NATO contracted airlift) sabotaged or destroyed NATO military assets they are flying around? .........Classified.
Will NATO or the Shanghai Cooperation succeed in securing the last supplies of oil on Earth?
My money is on the 1.5 Billion or so Chinese and Russia....that would buy Sweden a few more years of good living before the oil runs out.0 -

I think you'll find most Americans do not agree with our glorious elected leaders views. International organizations do not fit well with US policy. We end up running them and/or being bullied by them. It is a not win for us. Smaller countries fare better in NATO, UN and the like. I'd like to see us there only as a non-voting, non-participating observer.0 -

This is a real interesting question; I didn't know that Sweden and Finland were considering joining NATO. If they want to join, it is okay with me. France pulled out of NATO some years ago when De Gaulle was president. Now that there has been a change in government in France, would they reconsider that decision? The tidwe is definitely running in NATO's favor. When the Soviet Union fell apart, the so called eastern block countrties were very eager to join NATO; that is exactly what they did. From their point of view, NATO is a very effective organization. They want to keep the russian bear at bay. I would be surprised if Sweden joined, becuase of their long standing neutrality tradition, but not Finland. If sweden were to join, would Switzerland be next? How about Isreal or Jordan? 0 -

As I replied in a private mail to you Talented, it's really a decision that you Swedes must make. I have no personal opinion whatsoever.
Norway seems to get bent out of shape once in awhile about snoopy Russian subs and aircraft. Sweden? Maybe you don't know or don't care. Perhaps the Russians don't snoop. Maybe they consider your waters theirs. Who knows?
The Fins seem to have come to terms with the Russians. Maybe not always a smooth relationship, but one where it's in the interest of both parties to behave. I expect that they will continue on this course.
So... Your business is yours. I promise not to delve deeply into Swedish politics, nor to form opinions merely by exposure to Internet information. I'd expect that you as a good neighbor could be expected to refrain from drawing too many unfounded conclusions about the US.
Then again, while you may not mean it, your posts suggest an agenda. If I were you, I'd expect to be called out on some of the ideas you've suggested. Perhaps you've been cut some slack because you're not a US national. All I know is that had I suggested some of the things you did, I'd have been accused of promoting racial hatred by my peers.0 -

2) America should remove itself from NATO, and the U.N.
