Starting a career move
I'm starting my packet for the Army's Warrant Officer Candidate School and eventually Warrant Officer Flight Training. Just talked to the recruiters today, and I'm hopeful that everything will go smoothly. I know for a fact that it will go slowly, but I'm confidant in my abilites to succeed.

I'm not current on helos, and nothing that the Army uses these days. As long as it stays in the air, I guess that's all that counts.0 -

Yes, flyability (is that a word?) is always good.0 -
You are making a good choice.

I feel happy for your decision. "Be all that you can be."
However, here's a piece of fatherly advise to you, my friend.
I was an enlisted man before going Officer via NROTC. Crap is deeper on the other side of the fence.0 -
Very cool Jake.
Maybe someday you can be a factory worker like me. [:)]
Best of luck....keep us updated.0 -

It's the nature of any piece of manmade flying hardware that whenever it's used as intended, something on it must break.0 -

No, its the nature of any pilot to break the shnit out of any aircraft that was perfectly airworthy before they got to it.0 -

Hell...as long as Dan has some super-glue, double-bubble and a fresh pencil he can fix it for you! Pointy-head humor...haha
Go for it!! And Good Luck with it. An old girlfriend started the blue to green process and was told that a helo pilot's life expectancy in combat was <15mins. It didn't stop her. She didn't make it in the end but she never quit trying until she PCS'd to England a couple of years later.0 -

Who needs super glue when you have double-bubble? I'm assuming the fresh pencil is to pencil whip the AC forms(781 series).0 -
You got it. My best friend is a former crew dog. We used to laugh about it; all I needed was a pencil to CND it, he had one cargo pocket full of double bubble and 2 bottles of superglue in the other! 0 -

I still have a sliver of integrity left. My A&P, wrench-by-the-seat-of-my-pants, side is coming out the longer I'm here, however. TO's, we don't need no stinking TO's!0 -

Sure do...gotta have something to kneel on and set parts on!0 -

That's a good one. Thanks, I needed a laugh.0 -
How's mid shift going? 0 -
Once at reenlistment time I considered changing my MOS to an in flight rotar repairman. I heard promotion points stayed low, and one could get promoted pretty quick. High demand for those kind of repair folks. [:D] 0 -
Zulu7 ... if things don't work out, you can always fall back on teaching English grammar ... I'm convinced![:D] 0 -

No, the fall-back is teaching US History.0 -

You don't have to stop at US history .
You've already helped shape world history . [^]0 -
Zulu- I personally know of several guys that have done exactly what you are talking about, with the minor acception that they were enlisted navy and switched to Army Warrant to fly helos. I looked at it myself. One really big perk is that unlike pilots in other branches of the military is they don't do anything but fly. Typically officers also do tons of admin stuff, and fly, this is not the case with Army Warrants. It is a great way to get flight training, cross into the officer ranks, and rack up thousands (eventually) of flight hours. One of my friends has complained that Army warrants get treated like crap, but hey you should be used to that from the Army by now right? Of course in the Navy Warrants are really treated very, very, well, so that may have been his standard to judge how they are treated.
Please keep us posted and good luck.0 -

Dave, could you possibly ask your friends who have already done what I'm trying to do if they could get in contact with me to answer some of my questions and ease some of my fears?0 -
Good luck with you crazy adventures. I get the impression your hard on anything you drive or someday fly. Better treat your mechanic well. 0 -
Zulu- As you might be aware I just separated from A.D., but shoot me an email of what you want to know and I'll find out for you and do my best to put you in touch with people who can give you real answers. 0 -
Acronyms - I hate 'em, and they are everywhere.
What the hell is "A.D." ??
