Have you ever bought anything from a gun show? There is one in the aera this weekend am thinking of going. What ? to ask or anything to watch out for if I do go. 0 -
Just got back from one in Chattanooga at the Shriner's Club. I saw ammo at about twice the price it is right now at Walmart and guns about 25% higher then they go all day long at gunbroker. I was at one guy's table while he was selling some poor guy a lcp for 400. The table next to him had one marked for $350. My question is why would anyone pay over 300 right now? Why do people just go there and try to rip people off? Why not actually price a gun for what its worth and then sell many guns instead of bringing your same over priced crap to every show and get maybe one sucker to buy from you?

this weekend two gun shows one each about 40 to 45 miles from me one north in Lima Oh. one south Dayton Oh . will go to at least one maybe both . its been over a year since I have been to either one .
I am sure there will be no great deals but just a field trip to get out of the house for a while . never know what you may run across0 -
I took my granddaughter to a gun show here in Savannah today after church.I've never seen so much crap in my life.First they charged me $8.00 admission for an eight year old,then when we got inside it was vendors selling magnetic bracelets,toys,pocket books, and guns that looked like they had been used to paddle a boat.Is this normal at gun shows now or is this just an example of a promoter who will rent tables to anybody?If this has become the norm i'll be doing more business on GB or out of shotgun news. 0 -
I am a collector and generally buy my guns near where I live but have been going to shows near the border of other states. Is is legal for me to buy a gun from a person who is not a FFL from another state? Or sell a gun to somebody who is not a FFL from another state. Seems to me there is about as many non dealers as there are dealers with tables these days 0 -

I sold at gun shows starting in 1992 and did GREAT until 1995 when it kinda ended. It picked back up in 2000 but that was a short perk. I completely quit in 2003 frustrated. I really enjoy the business and would love to start up again but I do not want to waste the time and money setting up for a loser show again. How are shows doing now? Are they profitable again?

Know what you want before you go and have a idea how much it cost. Prices will be marked high and if you like something haggle, if they haven't sold much they may be inclined to bargin. Look on gun broker and get some ideas of price. Never buy the first one you see, unless the price and quality are right. I make notes who has what and where and compare prices and quality before I make up my mind.In My opinion Gun Shows are going down hill because of the net. Have fun [:D][:)][8] 0 -

Would it be better to be there the first day at opening, or the last day a few hours before they pack up? Or is this a 50/50 as better guns go fast but better deals later? 0 -
Last one I went to I shopped all day and most I could come away with was a fly reel. 0 -
I am sure the "Purse" lady and the "Jerky" guy along with the jewelry guy, and the new one at the local show the "Glue" guy will all be happy to see ya to..[:D] 0 -
beggining of first day or end of last day.... its a toss up. early day one gives you the most bang for your buck. all the stuff will be there on day one, and a lot of it will be gone on two. but on day one, a dealer is more likly to stick to his guns(pun intended) regarding price whereas at 4pm sunday, he might be a little more flexible to get out of lugging it home.
take what you can afford to spend in cash. leave the checkbook, debit card and all credit cards at home. you cant spend what you dont have available.(reference my post on self control in the "laid off" thread).
weigh the balance between not buying something at the first table you see it at versus hoping to see a better deal later. it may not be there when you get back. case in point: when the awb was in place, hi ca glock mags were selling in ma for approaching if not exceeding 100/per. i went to a show the weekend after it died. the first dealer i came to had a case full of glock mags. hicaps. he still wanted around a hundred for em. even after i informed him( and presented him with the documentation from the atf/ag) he still held firm. i kept walking. halfway through the hall was a glock rep with a case full of glock mags. his price, fair market value(around 50. some were less). had i wasted the money at the first table, i would have been screwed. this gets more complicated when you factor in rarity. if the second table you come too has that mint condition delta elite 10mm youve been dieing for for months, but he wants too much for it, think closely. there might be another one at the other side of the hall. it also might be bought by the guy behind you from the first table. thin ice here...
dont be suprised to see tables and tables full of nib factory guns for at or above average market price. gun shows are becoming a traveling group of dealers that pack the shop up and take it for a drive everytime theres a show. its sad really but thast what its becoming0 -

I think you got it. Some swear it's best to be there first thing to catch the guns that walk through the door as good deals. Others swear that sellers are more willing to bargain during the last couple hours of the show. But as somebody else pointed out, you're probably going to get the best deal from Leroy or Bubba in the parking lot, and there's no telling when they'll be there.

Go first thing. Don't buy anything without really knowing what you are buying. If you look at it as a learning experience and entertainment, then you won't be disappointed. If you see a gun that you really like, say "May I take a look at this" before you pick it up, especially if it is a collector piece. That might not help, but, it won't hurt. If you really know what you are looking at, don't let the dealer know that. Let the dealer do most of the talking. Usually you can quickly find out if they are full of it. Research before you go. Ammo is good to get at a show, if only to avoid shipping fees. Of course, if you do that, be sure you are parked close... I once toted an AR15 - without case - and a 1600 round case of ammo down a major street in tampa getting out of a show.... suprised I wasn't the subject of close police scrutiny... of course, this was in 91 or 92... 0 -

Early day one will be the best time to find the real nice stuff, not at bargain prices. End of the last day is best for getting the seller down on price, but the show will be cherry picked by then and you will be buying ordinary stuff, ammo etc.
They can be fun or a complete waste of time. You need to know the values of what you are looking at, and resist the urge to buy on impulse something that looks cool, but about which you know nothing.0 -
Don't know where you live. But if you're talking about the one in Dalton, GA save yourself the trip. The last two up there have been awful. Try to make one in Gainesville, Gwinnett, or Cobb if you can. And you aren't talking about the one in Dalton never mind. 0 -
