The best guns you can buy for under $500
Im asking everybody's opinion on whats the best gun they have ever bought for under $500, even if you've never bought one, what do you like?
Ive never owned on, but for the money, I dont think you could go wrong with a TC Encore or Contender. the prices may vary, but theres a ton of them floating around new england for less than $500 because they make them here in New Hampshire.

I would agree with you on the T/C , i would also say that just about any of the Ruger Blackhawk , Super Blackhawk or Redhawk line would fall in that same cat. 0 -

I bought a nib Colt series 80 with 3 magazines and night sights for 425.00 right here on Gunbroker a few years ago.

I've never paid as much as $500 for any one gun.
The top dollar I paid was $420 for a 3 screw Super Blackhawk with holster, stag grips, original box, and 3 boxes of ammo.
I'm pretty sure that was the most valuable firearm I have ever owned.
It really sucked that I had to sell it to make the rent.0 -

...Colt 1991A1 45 acp, look around..and NOT a beater, and will increase in price.
Colt series 70 satin nickle Combat Commander 45 acp, finish will be worn, but completely functional. Drop 250 ($750 in it then, very acceptable price to have in it in like new cond) for strip and mat hard chrome finish (or another finish you may prefer)..and you have a brand new fine looking gun that will go up in price.
They're out there, more than you think, just look. People hear Colt and automatically their azz puckers and think $$$, yes some are up there in $$$ but well worth it, and unless you hang toys all over one and drag it behind a truck...they will only go up in value, gauranteed.
Not many $500 guns if any, that will do that...[;)]
..But hell, go ahead and buy that plastic Glock, Beretta, Taurus dont matter to me...[;)]0 -

Mark IV Series 70 - $165 + a broke TV in 1977. Oh yeah - it was nickel and full-auto.
Then there was an Uzi Model A which was also free. Won in a poker game in LA, in 1984.
Almost forgot the Enfield Jungle Carbine my father-in-law gave me a couple of months ago.

It was about 8 years ago. I just got lucky... I paid 400 because it looked well used and had bluing wear. I bought it and touched it up with Brownells cold blue. It looked almost good as new. .. and it shot like a dream. 0 -
...Well dang...sounded way too good to be possible, for THAT price [:D] My above refernce to the two Colts are based on today...they're out there, a little patience and keep an eyeball peeled...and either can be yours at those prices, which are good deals BTW.
...After buying the McCormick Factory Racer a few werks ago, Im not going to buy another GC. The Mac Racer reminds me so much of the GC, and shoots better than the new ones (with the "new" trigger w/the holes instead of the elongated slot) and as good or better than many of the older GC's.
...Im getting a couple more in the next 3-4 weeks, s70 Bright Nickle Govt. 98-99%, all original w/box, manual etc. and a NIB s80 Bright SS Commander (not the XSE) which is going to be one of my carry guns after I change a few things.
...Then I think Ill expand my horizons after the first of the year and look for a few nice Colt vest pockets, 25, 32, 38's...love them little old Colts w/the case hardening! God I need help...[;)]0 -
If you watched the auctions, you could probably buy all 3 listed below for about $500
Used Remington 870 (Express)
Smith & Wesson Model 10 38 special (used police trade-in)
Ruger 10/22 or Marlin Glenfield model 60 (used 22)
If you take care of them, you should never loose a dollar and be able to hand them off to your kids or grandkids.0 -
M-98 Mauser, Lee-Enfield (SMLE), Moisen Nagant, 1903 & 1903a3, P-13, M-1917, M1 Garand...........
Winchester M-70, Rem 700, Rem 1100 all used to be in the $150 range (somewhere at home I've got catalogs showing M-70 factory target rifles for $120 NIB)
But I'm also old enough to remember when used 1911's were considered overpriced at $50ea (IIRC upon discharge you could purchase one for $25, limit 2/dischargee)0 -
