My cat gave up the fight this morning
My oldest cat (13 yrs) gave up his fight this morning. The vet called and said that he died at about 0930. He was diagnosed with early stages of kidney failure about a week ago. My wife and I took him back to the vet yesterday for more treatment. We knew it was coming, but I guess we still weren't prepared. He was my "little buddy". My wife and I got him four months after we got married thirteen years ago, so he was a very big part of our family. Sorry to dump this in here, but I just needed to vent.

Sorry to hear that,.........I know how you must feel! I have lost several close pets over the years, and my current pooch is starting to get up there in years, and developing some issues.
I feel your pain.0 -
Sorry for your loss. 0 -
I know exactly how you feel, we said goodbye to our 13-year old cocker spaniel last year. I missed Oscar's birth by about fifteen minutes, so I understand the whole attached thing quite well.
My heart goes out to you and your family.0 -
I am truly sorry for your loss. I will pray that you find comfort in these difficult times. 0 -
Sorry to hear it. 0 -

Sorry to hear about that, Slider. It is a tough thing. Hard to believe how attached we become to pets. 0 -
Sorry about your cat slider[V] 0 -
I'm sorry you had to go through this - but think of all the good times you had together.

Sorry to hear the sad news.
Did he eat any of the poison from China?0 -
I am very sorry to hear this! I have three cats and i would be devastated if I were to loose one.
If you get another, please keep his weight down! a lot of foods contain to much fat generating substances and fat cats are really prone to diabetes and kidney failure.
Again I extend my condolences.0 -
More sorry than I can say Slider, We lost my pal of 13 years last summer and I still get misty over her. Try to remember the good times, and think about getting a new one soon. 0 -

I'm sorry to hear about your little buddy. I sounds like he had a good life. There is nothing you can do to get ready for something like that, it's just something you have to go through. I hope your wife is holding up well. 0 -
I'm sorry to hear that slider. I'm sure that cat did a lot of good to the owner that has done a lot of good for so many other people. 0 -
"We call them dumb animals, and so they are, for they cannot tell us how they feel, but they do not suffer less because they have no words". (Anna Sewell, 1877)
Having just lost my little cocker spaniel to cancer last month, I can understand what you are feeling. I still miss her every day. Time will dull the pain, but you will never forget your feline friend.0 -
Thanks, everyone, for the kind words. It's been a rough day here, but we will survive. It's comforting to know that I have a "virtual family" in here that truly has a heart!!! Thanks again!!! 0 -
I just went through the same thing earlier this year...and I understand the pain. Please know that he is in a better place. I posted a similar item when it happened to me and someone was kind enough to post this poem...so I will share it now.

RainbowsBridge.com
Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.
When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge. There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.
All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor. Those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by. The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.
They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent. His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.
You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.
Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....

Slider- sorry, man. Last Friday we had to have one of our cats put down- Peek was my lady's friend and companion when I was on the road. Little girl was in kidney failure, and dropping weight rapidly, hadreached the stage where she could not walk. We sat with her at the vet, and held her while the deed was done, and she stopped purring forever. The more I see of people, the more I like critters. But you know, as we do, this is part of the bargain we all have with our animals- I will not let you hurt when it cannot be fixed. You did the right thing. 0 -
(((Slider and Family)))
A Cat's Conversation with God
And God asked the Feline sprit
Are you ready to come home?
Oh, yes, quite so, replied the precious soul
And, as a Cat, you know I am most able
To decide anything for myself.
Are you coming then? asked God.
Soon, replied the whiskered Angel
But I must come slowly
For my Human Friends are troubled
For you see, they need me, quite certainly.
But don't they understand? asked God
That you'll never leave them?
That your souls are intertwined. For all eternity?
That nothing is created or destroyed?
It just is....forever and ever and ever.
Eventually they will understand,
Replied the glorious Cat
For I will whisper into their hearts
That I am always with them
I just am....
Forever and ever and ever.
I had to do the same kindness for my 14 y/o Kitz Kitty a week ago Saturday. Though the tears aren't flowing as much, the house and barn still seem so empty without her. I still don't understand the law of Physics that a 10# Cat could fill so much space.
Yours was a unselfish act, though painful to you, the right thing was done. Now only time will help.
Big Hugs to you all--
