I'm praying for her. Clutches and transmissions can be replace. Children (and yes, tell her she's still a child [}:)]) can't.

Stay safe young lady, and don't talk on the cell or text message while driving. It cost 5 17 and 18 year old chearleaders their lives less than a month ago in New York state.

Not yet. This thing has until December before she turns 16. I have been letting her drive mine with me as a passenger for many many months and I figure if she is as bad at driving my crappy Escape I had better get her all the time we can sqeeze in before she is let loose in this thing. I bet she makes crappy grades....or sneaks to see a boy or something and I get to give it back to Grandmama anyway.

Sounds like with all of the problems you are having with her, I certainly would not be turning over a car to someone of that mentality.
You are looking for trouble, and, or, heartache.
What ever happened to, when you got your DL, you might use the parents car, once in awhile, and you worked to save for one of your own? Didn't matter how old it was,......as long as it ran.
Give a pretty young girl, a "semi-hot" car, you might end up with what I have seen too many times,.......smashed into a power pole, with several of her friends. I have to look at one of those roadside monuments, every day, on the way to my house. They were having a blast, and crossed the center line of a 2 lane road, into the path of a sand truck.
They were all wonderful girls, to hear the parents. After the truth came out, they were weaving in and out of traffic, trying to pass a car that wasn't doing 80 MPH!
It's your life,.....live it, and accept the consequences.

I noticed that.... Lf wil be a granny within 24 months... Her fault too... If she had made her get a car with a back seat they wouldn't have to get a motel room and would have had the klinkies for protection!!!!

This girl isn't bad.....she's just a normal 15 yr old. She had to go to summer school...sneaks the phone in her room after hours from time to time....and isn't very respectful every once in a while....but not a BAD girl. I have thought she did things that were bad (because no parent who has common sence thinks their kids won't try any and everything that comes along unless they stay on top of things) but I have always been pleasantly suprised whenever I dig into the details of what is going on.

I think she is right when she says....."I'll probobly drive yours more than I will this one" because its easier and buddies can ride in mine. I will have a LOT of rules for this one IF she gets it. I will have the radio taken out.....for one thing. I will NOT let her even drive around these little back roads with anyone at all with her for a very long time....and it will be GONE the very first time she messes up. I also plan on having her tell me exactly where she is going and I plan to call her cell phone while she is out. Since it is supposed to be turned off while driving I should be able to see where she missed a call from me during the drive. Its hard to stay on top of things when you have kids......this one isn't bad so I don't have too much to worry about. I just try to keep the riff-raff away from her and she will be fine

Tobefree....I can only imagine what a young girl would turn out like if she were under your influence. This one is amazing, smart as can be, quick witted, and sweet as can be to those who deserve it....and a complete ass at times (but who isn't) I am proud as can be of her.

Dunno LF, I think a big 'ol lifted 4x4 would be better off for her first car. [:D]

OOOOhhh....yes she is pretty bad! But as a PERSON she is a good PERSON....and I was relating that to earlier comments made by marc1301 and tobefree that made me think that this little lady was somehow not the angel I believer her to be.

Driving....boy-howdie do we have a long way to go!!! I have found I have renamed the gears....we now have "Dang-first"..."God-blessed-second"...."Lord-help-third"...and "Oh-my-God-fourth" we won't go into the words I have said when we were supposed to be in NEUTRAL but instead are jumping and learching foreward as the car dies in first gear while the clutch is dumped. All the time I can stand will be spent riding around with her practicing before she ever gets out on her own......if I can stand it or the car breaks down.

I wouldn't have much use for a mother who thought their daughter was a BAD person, and I don't think any of us here have the right or ability to judge her on a personal level. She's a pretty young lady, and I hope she stays safe and grows up well. I expect nothing less of you as her mom.[;)]

Looks like a lot of car for such a young driver.

    Caution.

She is closely supervised by a lot of people....I think we all have our nerves on end thinking about this car and the young-un behind the wheel. I just don't think there is an "easy" answer to this one. She will be driving SOMETHING and this little car is fast and fun.....but even a Chevette can kill someone. I'm just hoping she is as smart as I think she is and will pay attention to the hours and hours of lectures and horrific tales everyone is hammering into her brain.

    LF,

You'll probably have to tell Jacob2008 what a "Chevette" is>

She reminds me of my youngest daughter, back before the three kids, by three different daddies. Don

What is that, about a $70,000 car?

Those penny auctions must be working out pretty good for you...

Don't lump me in with someone else, because of my reply.
I NEVER said she was "bad", you pretty much have aired your problems here.
I simply responded with a real life example, of what can happen, when you are not on top of things, and "give" too much!
Don't worry,......I will never respond to any of your posts again.

OK - not making any criticising remarks here - just caution - I'm withholding a few
horror stories that would be counter productive. I'm of the bigger is better school
for my youngster's first cars. The smallest was a 96 Taurus - a virtual tank when hit -
and it was. No damage to the daughter - it did it's job well.

She's a cute as a pin! Tell her to take it slow and easy.

So much for the kinder, gentler, non-confrontational MARC1301.

Don't worry LF, it aint so bad. Folks have been ignoring my posts for years...

Marc...don't start whimperring...I didn't say anything BAD about what you said. You didn't upset me at all. I was just saying that this car is not something she DOESN'T DESERVE for anything she has done or not done.....if she were stealing, sneaking off, lied to me about major things or I didn't see her trying to be a good person and do something with herself I wouldn't even DREAM of giving her a car like this. I wasn't at all saying that I was MAD about your post...just that I was saying she is a GOOD person (horrible driver) but good girl and will learn to drive better with practice.

I do air out my "crap" here....and of my three this one is my hand-full but when I look at her as a person I never EVER think I am messing up in how we are raising her. She would like a little more freedom and I plan to do all I can not to give it to her.
