Its amazing how many people come out of the woodwork to enter a giveaway here. They hardly ever post but are quick to jump in to the giveaway's.

i've been here for a while now, and even though i don't have alot of posts, i had a giveaway that didn't get a lot of responses. in fact, i drew the winners name, but never heard from them. so i still have the prize. contemplating doing it again, but now i don't know. 0 -

I realy ENJOY the giveays's and enter those I like. I do not post much but check in twice a day. Are you saying that I should not get in the giveaway?
I also noticed that you are my senior by 3 days . I just don't have much to say.

I too have noticed it. But I also know there are some good forum members that just do not post much.0 -
I say quality over quanity. I have been on a few mess. forums for over 7 years and my post count is less than 500. I would rather see someone that only post when they have something constructive to add to a thread than someone that posts smiles or say things like "it's Bushs'fault" to every thread just to get their post count up. 0 -

Good point... I used to come here daily ( mostly Ask the Experts) just to learn more. And rarely posted. Fact is some of the guys are so knowledgable that it it was rare that something came up that I could up with better postings than they could. Read and learn, this site is very useful for far more than just shooting the bull.... I've have only 2 give aways and if a newbie with 1 post had won I would not have been in the least bit offended. Even though I suspect that a few here would have cried foul or fixed... I am here on these forums to learn...and learn I do....Tons....0 -

I think that giveaways are one good way to pull more of the lower-count posters into the on-going discussions and to generate a little excitement and fellowship on the boards among all the regular posters.
If my memory serves me correctly, I believe I've entered two since coming on board, primarily because I simply could't use most of what was being given away. All good and worthwhile stuff, just not things I myself could put to good use.
Also, giveaways are one very good and fun way to recycle the things we no longer want or use but that might have some value or interest to someone else.0 -
What if you had a giveaway and stated that you couldn't have MORE than 500 posts ? Just food for thought on the subject. Would the posters in the 1,000 to 6,000 or so range be up in arms ? Maybe or maybe not. [:D] 0 -

Funny how somepeople are big on the must have xxx # of post to win or whatever. Some might not have much to say or don't feel like commenting, dosn't everyone start out at the same # when they register? 0 -

I agree youngsparkey. I have been he since OCT 1999, I have a low post count because I don't see the need to post something if it has already been answered or I do not know the answer. I read the forums everyday and have learned alot from the post here, but the post count dosen't mean a thing as far as I am concerned. I should be quality not quantity, I can have my post count up to 1000 by the end of the week if quantity was needed. I have at least 70 firearms in my gun room, but all low end, quantity but no real quality. I am trying to sell off some to finance higher quality guns for my collection I'm not saying the people with high post counts do not have quality things to say, I'm saying some of it is just posting. If you go back a couple of years ago when former member Mark Christian had his M1 Garand give-a-way people who had been members for years, yet had post numbers in the single digits, suddenly came to life on the boards! Poor Mark later admitted that the entire give-a-way turned into a fiasco and when a relatively new member won his rifle there was so much b-tching that the epsiode likely sped Mark's departure from GB, even before the rest of that nightmare (the e-mails and the posting of his personal information in the forum) began. 0 -
I've made several giveaways at GB - books, holsters, walnut stocks. I sincerely believe that it promotes goodwill and friendship amongst forum members.
I have as a rule "at least 100 posts". The idea is not to rule out bona fide members with little amounts of posts, but more like to exclude those who may sign up and just hang around only for the giveaway.
May consider in the future changing the rules to "members for at least 100 days, and 100 posts.0 -

If it bothers you that much then you should just put a "minimum post" stipulation in your giveaways. If you don't have "special" requirements for your giveaways and still complain when a fairly low post count member wins, then you're the dude. You should just give the item away to one of your friends and be done with it. What's the purpose of having an open giveaway, if what you're really looking to do is give it away to someone YOU like? Just give it to them and go in the closet to kiss each others butts or something. There's nothing wrong with stipulations in the giveaways. They show that you want the item to go to a special group not just anyone. Look at the "youth" rifle giveaways. They have been a success because the item goes to young shooters and the winner is asked to post a pic of who it went to.0 -

It doesnt bother me at all, Ive had several giveaway's and I dont believe Ive ever had any stipulation post count or other. I was simply making an observation. 0 -

Spider hit the nail on the head! It is not a requirement for membership to thesew forums to have giveaways. Poeple do it to promote goodwill on the forum. The person holding the giveaway has every right to make whatever stipulations they want on it.
Most of my giveaways have had no stipulations on them. But the big stuff sure has to keep people from joining up just to win something.0 -

It still boils down to the person holding the giveaway. They are in no way obligated to give any thing away and should be able to to make any stipulations that they want too.
If a newbe wants to hold one for those with less than 100 posts so be it. That is there choice.
And if the person who has 10000 posts wants to make one for only those with over 10000 thats fine too.
The person holding the giveaway has full control of any stipulations period.
The only thing all this bickering is going to do is get our right to giveaways taken away from us.[:(][:(][:(][:(]0 -
